  1. Hi! I'm in the Allentown area. Looking to talk with people from the same area...banded or about to be. I've been banded since May 26th and enjoying the band so far. Going to the support groups at Lehigh Valley hospital. Haven't been to one in a while but going to the one on the 29th. They are pretty interesting. Looking for people to chat with. Thanks!
  2. I was banded 5 1/2 months ago and have lost 51 pounds. I have had 2 fills. They were easy. When it came time for my 3rd fill...I chickened out and decided I didn't need one. I had lost 12 pounds the month prior so the surgeons office agreed. My weight loss has slowed but I am still losing. I have never been stuck or pb'd (I chew, chew, chew). It's getting stuck or throwing up is what I'm afraid of. I have read alot of posts on the message boards with people describing how painful it is to be stuck. I recently was in the hospital (not related to the band) and my roomate also had the band (3 years). After every meal she went into the bathroom and threw up. I don't want that to happen to me. I do have some restriction but I doubt I am at my sweet spot. I am basically not hungry that much and do stick to softer foods. I don't like meat. Anyway...I have a fill appt. coming up on Tuesday and once again I find myself chickening out. Are these feelings normal...have others struggled with this? I don't need to be told...then why did I get the band? I'm just struggling with it that's all. Any advice?

    Hiccups?

I had the hiccups slot after my surgery. It continued right up until my first fill. After that they went away. Go figure.

    Oregon Newby

Hi Laura...I love dogs too. Congratulations on getting banded. How did you like your first fill? I have had two so far. They didn't do my third fill because I lost 14 pounds in a month. I have been struggling the last 2 weeks though as the scale hasn't moved. I am going to a support group on the 29th. That's a shame yours is so far away. Having a band really does require support! Message me if you'd like To chat.

    Newbie here

Hi...I was very nervous in the weeks leading up to my surgery. I was on LapBandTalk all the time searching the threads. My expierence with surgery was pretty good. I took 2 weeks off from work, however, I could have gone back in a week. The extra week off was nice though. I was mostly tired. I didn't have the gas everyone talks about...it mostly felt like I did a thousand sit-ups. The recovery is quick in my opinion. If you'd like to talk anymore send me a message. I'll gladly talk with you Good Luck!

Hi mama c...I was really nervous too but everything has gone well. I was banded almost 4 months ago and enjoying it. It is a big change but totally worth it in my opinon. Recovery isn't too long and you'll be feeling better before you know it. And off to a healthier life. Good luck!

    Gum?

I decided I would not chew gum anymore. I don't want to take the chance on getting it stuck in my band. I have accidentally swallowed it before I was banded so I knew it could happen. I do miss it but I'd rather have the band. Good luck!

    New and Confused

Hi alot of insurances require the 6 month program. As much as it was hard to wait, the program teaches you all about the band. When I was 5 months into it is when the appointment was made to see the surgeon. That took a month. My insurance was then contacted and I had to wait 8 week for my surgery. They scheduled my surgery on that first visit. So the whole thing took 8 months. Just keep thinking of the end result. Good luck!

    Hello

Hi! Keep up the good work! I have also lost 30 lbs. I have only had one fill so far so I can't wait until I get some restriction. I have my next fill August 10th. It's getting harder and harder but I think I am doing relatively good. This is a great site!

    New, Scared, Excited....

Hi....I found it took me a week to recover. You will read stories on here of people who recovered sooner, but for me it was a week. I took 2 weeks vacation from my job so I would be well covered. I did not have the gas pain people talk of but I still needed a week to gain my strength back and i plan on resting up the next week too...except for a daily walk.

Hi! My name is Jodi, I'm from Allentown, Pennsylvania and I had my surgery last Wednesday. Like you, I spent alot of time reading articles on the internet. This website is great. The message boards are informative and you can talk with alot of people who have had the surgery already in the chat room. I've met some really nice people in there who I asked all kinds of questions to. I have 135 pounds to lose but I am going to do it! Good luck at your upcoming doctor's appt!

    Super Excited

Good Luck for tommorrow! I was banded on Wednesday and it really wasn't so bad. I'm still a little sore but I'm getting around just fine. My doctor required Atkins diet before the surgery so I don't really know what it's like to be on the shakes but I just got done with 3 days of clear liquids and today I moved on to full liquids. You will do great! I lost 3 pounds since my surgery and 10 pre-op.

    Psych eval

Hi RaeZur, I, too, was very worried about the evaluation. I have bi-polar disorder and take 3 anti-psychotic medications. One of the things they seemed interested in during the eval. was what my expectations were. In other words, what weight goal was I going for. I think they are looking for realistic answers...in other words I would like to be a size 10 not a 2. I have been hospitalized many times years ago and they didn't hold that against me. As long as you are stable now you should be fine.
