About 8 weeks after banding I joined a gym and pay extra to attned a group weight loss program. 3 x a week exersize and once a week nutrion councling. The group of 5 to 6 people and a trainer has gotten me into the habbit. The trainer mixes it up, mostly cardio with and without weights and lots of other "Fun" Things. My weight has not droped as I would had hoped but I have been eating a bit too well. Not bad prob too much. I feel so much better, much stronger can move much better etc. Do get someone to put together a plan for you and look into a trainer or group fitness plan.

Is this my sweet spot? Help
rosstheboss replied to SHAY2280's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am not sure when you were banded. I have had 4 fills so far, not sure how much is in their. My Dr does not like you to eat much the day of the fill, just liquids if possible. I have noticed that sometimes I feel more restriction a day or so later. With my first few fill after a few days things went down easer. At this point I may be just about at the right spot. I was banded in May, my last fill was in Sept. when ever I think about getting another fill, I eat someting too fast and it just does not go down. I end up with it comming back up. A few weeks ago it was almost once a day. but today was the first time in a week or so. I must eat really slowly. I eat alot of tosted sandwiches as I can take smaller bites. Just take it slow and see what happens -
To fill or not to fill - that is the question
rosstheboss replied to timmmers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem to be doing great, getting back to tracking food is the best thing. I too need to write it all down and get to the gym for weight loss to contune. It is easy to pick and things that are not good go down easy. I had my surgery in May, down 40/lbs which is slower than it should be but I have not been as strict as I should be untill recently. I had fills quickly due to insurance, have been thinking of another but when than I have a sliming and know that it is tight enough. My Band did not seem to like that thanksgiving Turkey! -
Restriction Question
rosstheboss replied to Whillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem to be doing great! I have had times that it did not seem the fill did anything and a few days later I noticed it. You may be eating more inbetween meals etc. I got my band in May, down 40/lbs. Had a few months with little movement in weight. Was on vacation, eating inbetween meals etc. Started to keep record of food again and that really helped. It is easy to get loose with your food and some things go down really easy. So try to get a bit stricter and look at the long term. -
Stretching or Just Chicken Unfriendly?
rosstheboss replied to lasttry09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Well Chicken for me sometimes ok others not. Yes the dark meat is much better going down if it is too dry forget it. Lately I make alot of toasted Sandwiches. Seems that chicken or what ever made in a sandwich goes down better. I think one that I have better control of taking smaller bites. -
Eating and Drinking - Together
rosstheboss replied to Bempowered's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded 6 weeks ago. I find if I am drinking and eating the it is like the band is not there. So when I am following the program I do not drink when I am eating as it defeats the purpos of the band and leads to weight gain etc. I also find this is true if I am eating very liquid foods like chile. Good luck you do get used to it. -
I really wanted that chinese food
rosstheboss replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded 6 weeks now. Have had some susi, and chicken chow mein. Not much thought. Egg Drop soup is good too especially when you are just baneded etc. Lots of proteene etc. -
In dire need of reassurance
rosstheboss replied to esposa13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some nausa the first few days too. It was not that bad, I ended up taking out some Coke and let it go flat. A few sips seemed to help calm things down. With a few day it was fine. -
what does PBing and sliming mean?
rosstheboss replied to Grandma26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, was banded May 1st. Had my first Sliming today. had eggs for Breakfast. than for luch small amount of chicken and could tell it was just not feeling right. Little while later the chicken came up. It was like vomiting but not much work just came up. You will know it when you see it, not like old vomit, yea like slime. But feeling fine a few min later. Part of the learing process. Sometimes you can eat with no problem other time just does not feel right when initally going down. -
Hi Guys, Had joined the April Bandsters but my surgery was April but was posponed to May 1st. Thought would be good to have a thread for our selves to compair stories. I was banded on May 1st arrived at the hospital 8:00 am, was back at home 2:00 pm. Have to say first few days were uncomforable especailly to sleep but took my meds. Have lost 10 lbs as of today, but am tired of chicken broth. Went to my Nutrisionist today, she said I can start on Non Clear liquids thursday. Am feeling a bit of hunger or something not really sure. The nutrisionist who explained in addition to the medical resons for the diet a big part is to break you of your old habits. Trying to keep to the plan as much as possible. Well Take Care ALL

30 lbs in 30 days and NO appetite
rosstheboss replied to PawPaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First cong on the weight loss, I was also banded on the May 1st. About a week or so after I went with my wife to my nutritionist, I had lost about 10 lbs. But was not feeling too well, sweating etc. She believed it was low blood sugar and had me get regular crandberry juice. Said to have 8 onz a day. You need to eat something and get some carbs in you. You dont need alot. With that said my weight loss has slowed, down almost 20. started to keep track of food etc. If you cannot get to a dr. I strongly suggest you see a nutritionist that works wtih lapban they can help you to know what you NEED to eat. Regards Rosstheboss -
Hi Doug, thanks for the note, we will have to get together some time. I am feeling fine, last time I checked was down about 13/lbs but it is now moving up and down a few lbs. I am eating real food, chewing a lot etc. being carful, not that hungry but can eat, and knowing when I start getting filled it will not be the case. This seems to be a hard time as I can eat far more than I know I should. Have been eating healthy but more than I should. My first fill is May 26th. I am tring to keep to the protene shakes which keep the weight moving and low carb foods. Are you going to the meeting a week from Thursday? We will have to get together. or drop me a private note with your e-mail and phone if you want. Actually I live really close to the Dr office.

hair loss and bathing
rosstheboss replied to istra's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Does anyone know if Rogaine helps, I was banded a week ago. But when I was 20 I lost alot of weight on a high proteen very low cal diet and my hair got much thinner. Well it is 30 years later and I just got banded so thier is even less now. From what I hear Vitimans, proteen are important, but we have rogaine now so wondering if that will help. -
Hi, well so far down about 11/lbs 6 days, Day 1 & 2 I was uncomfortable, but feeling much better day by day. Some hunger is returning. Was on clear liquids untill today, and today started mixed liquids. Really much better made a smoothie this afternoon with protene mix, banana, milk yougert. Did you mention you had to fly just after surgery, would prob be better if you could wait a few days, make sure you take you pain med whcih will help you sleep. Good luck to you Ross

Hi, Guess I am your Little brother, I am 51. Feeling good today, some gas pain in my stomic or what ever it is now. Think I am drinking too fast. My Dr. has you on Clear liquids for 1 week than you can start some proteen shakes etc. I think I am a bit hungry. I did leave some Regular Coke out to get rid of the carbonation, and a few sips took away the Nausa. The pain meds are good but put me right to sleep. I have not really had any Pain so to speak just lots of discomfort so I have been taking the pain med when going to sleep or for my afternoon nap. Have been drinking protene Water, and chicken broth but that is getting old. I am down about 10 Lbs since Friday so that is good. Well take care Ross

To tell or not to tell?
rosstheboss replied to For My Health's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Well work for myself from Home so dont have the issue with people at work. I really have only told two people, My Wife on the other hand has told most of our good friends. At first I think she was looking for people to try and talk me out of it. But most of her friends are professional people. A good friend who is a nurse thought it was a good idea as she sees what a hard time heavy people have in the Hospital especially as they get older, Another is a neutrisionest and also felt it was a good idea, another works in the medical field and felt it was good also but I need to understand how little food I would eat. My wife told some others today a church as I decided to stay home, I want to avoid any germs, they came over to see me in the afternoon and were supportive as they we concerned with possible health issues. My reason not to tell lots of people was simply that I did not want their OPINION! Now that It is done, I will most probibly shair this information with others, but again my wife has done a good job at that. She reports back their commements many have been OH HE IS NOT THAT HEAVY! Something we all like to hear. Good luck to you. I was banded on May 1st and feeling a bit sore but good. Take Care ROSS -
I was banded also on May 1st, guess that make me your Brother and I always wanted a sister. I had some gas too, I read on this sight about chewable gas-x and it seemed to help. Have been sore, and it was hard to get comfortable that fist night, so have been using the pain med when I wanted to sleep. Otherwas feeling much better today. A bit of nausa, not sure if it is hunger or what. alrady tired of chicken broth. Having no troble drinking, I kept reading only a few sips but I seem to have no problem drinking Water. Not really hungry, but at times I feel like I could eat something. I tried some of the cristal light with proteene but think that might have been contributing to the nausa. But feeling much better, never really felt that much pain just more discomfort. Well good luck to you Ross

Single incision vs multiple surgery "filled vs regular Lap-band"
rosstheboss posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I am scheduled for surgery Friday morning. Just got a call that I was moved up a few hr which is fine but also that due to equippment problem instead of a "Filled Lap-band" Single incesion they were going to do a regular Lap-band with 3 small incesions and one larger. The woman said this is what she and her husban has and that the single incesion actualy hurts more than the 3 small and one large. Untill yeasterday I was not sure what type band I was even getting as they gave me alot of information on the realise band but yeasterday they gave me the actual post op package for the Lap-band. Seems I should have asked more questions but the two bands seem quite similuar. I am not sure what this woman who just does the appoinments meant by Filled vs regular as I do not see anything on line about filled vs regular lap-band as the lapband seems to have some filling anyway? Any comments????? Think I need to call and try to talk with the nurse. -
Single incision vs multiple surgery "filled vs regular Lap-band"
rosstheboss replied to rosstheboss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all, I called the Dr. Office and they explained that there is a problem with the Hospital equipment needed for the single incesion. I asked too about the Lap Band vs realise. Told them I was not even sure which I was suppose to get as they have given me so much stuff on the Realise band. (That is Marketing for you) She explained that they give them lots of stuff, tote bags etc so they use them. I could have the Realise ban if I wanted. I asked what the Dr. Prefers and at this time she said he prefers the Lap-band as the one he uses is actually newer technology that the current realise band that is on the market. Seems they are constantly improving these thing. So tonight is my last day of Food! I was never put on a liquid diet, but they said that the day befor they prefer I eat a liquid type diet, Soup, etc. he does not want to find a big cheese burger sitting in my stomic when he goes in there. I am kind of getting excited to get this over with. My Wife has told a number of people hoping they would say DONT DO IT. But most of her friends are involved in the health care. work in Dr offices, Nurses, etc. They all said that I should do it because they know the troble older people who are in the Hospital have to go through! Well comming down to the wire now. Thanks to all Ross -
singing after surgery
rosstheboss replied to Baba'schild's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a bit concerned about that too, but never thought to ask. I am a cantor and do alot of singing, being overweight does not help either. I often get really hot up their. Hoping for the best, I am set to get banded in two days. Good Luck Ross -
I hear you Brother! I was scheduled for April 18th, 2 weeks ago picked up some upper resptory infection. Quickly went to my regular dr. Got antibiodits etc. Chest x-ray etc. 2 weeks later still have low grade feaver, feeling much better but no voice and still coughing. Called my Band Dr. and they said we need to reschedual. So date is now March 1st. One good thing, not dieting and lost about 6 lbs so far. Hope things work out. Ross

Hi all April Bandsters, Well I am back, since my last note I have had an upper respotory infection, so have not even felt like eating too much. Steped on the scale yeasterday and had lost 5lbs. Monday I am scheduled for my hospital pre-op. Surgery is April 17th so I hope I will be well enough. Taking antibiodics since monday and still running a low grade temp. But have a few days untill pre-op. Part of me wants to eat that last supper but at this point I am really not hungry so have been eating "Well" to try and get over this as fast as possible. Well more later ROSS

It figures, two weeks until banding and I get sick. Started last friday, went to the Dr. Monday, he asked about my surgery and had a chest x-ray done to rule out phenonia, that came back ok, must be bronchitis or some resportory infection. On antibiodics since monday and feeling a bit better, temp is down. Of cource concerned about surgery. Have my pre-op Monday and surgery the following friday. Any suggestions. When ever I get sick goes to my chest and lungs and often the cough lingers on. I used to get this every year but it has been 4 years since my last bout with this thing. Anyway would like to hear any thoughts, also thanks for the comments on the GAS X. it is on my list

two weeks to banding and sick!
rosstheboss replied to rosstheboss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I am feeling better and cough is less than before but I cough so hard that I get dizy. But is getting less and less and I have a few weeks so trying to take it easy and rest. As for the Pre op diet. My Dr. did not really put me on one and did not say too much. Oh he said to cut down on the carbs and eat more proteene, no metion of any liquid diet, although I have that from my most recent diet attempt. They might say somehing at the Hosptal pre-op. I am going to try and get back on track, but being sick I have not been eating too much anyway. Due need to try and get stricter in the next few days. My weight has been about the same acutally when I saw my dr 2 weeks ago I had lost a few pounds. This week went to my regulard dr, and was a bit higher but their scals are different. So not too concerned. I am like 292 BMI around 40,
