Too much exercise not enough calories?

Wow! I am kid of in the same boat. Was banded May 2009. lost 25 quickly, started working out last June. got serious about it in Sept. was down 40/lbs in Oct, and down 50/lbs by Dec. But have stayed the same. Working out with trainer 3 times a week. Do more weights on my own 1 -2 times a week. My Nutrionist has me increasing cal. When I stared with her back in Oct was eating about 1200. Now eating 1800 she wants me to go up to 2000! But my weight has been stable. Up and down a few lbs. But total 50/lbs. I would like to see the scale move. I know I am getting thinner clothes feel better but I too am hung up on the scale. Will try to keep doing what she says but it is hard. From what I see on line it is hard to loose lbs and build muscle. But Muscle looks a lot better than fat. Keep up the good work and keep up the fight.
  2. Hi, well I am still a bit confused, scale stable with 50/lb loss in 9 months. My Family Dr. is pleased now off all BP Meds etc. went to my Surgen and found out I was overfilled for the last 6 months so they took a bit out and I feel better. Working out 3 to 5 times a week with trainer and nutrionist. the Nutrionist keeps increasing my cals and says not to worry about the scale. Actually the Surgen said not to worry about the scale too! But I am so into the scale. well this is what I ate today. It still seems like a lot more than others, I have been overweight and YO YO Dieted my whole life. Breakfast: Protien shake, with Skim milk, banana Snack. 5 appricots, with almonds and cheese. also coffee lunch. 6 Onz chicken cutlets. Snack: Protien powder, Milk, 2tbs peanutbutter dinner : 5 onz bison, 2 laughing cow cheese, Mixed Veg. Total 1500 cal, 138g protien, 55 fat, 129 Carbs. I am also suppose to start using the food extchanges. The plan from my Nutrionist is actually 1900 cal. Breakfast 2 Protien, 1Milk. 2 fruit Snack: 1 Fruit, 1 Milk, 1 Fat, Lunch: 5 Protien, 2 fat, 2 starch snack: 2 protien, 1 milk, 2 fat Dinner: 5 Protien, 1 Milk, 3veg, 3fat, Total: 13 Protien, 4 Milk, 3 fruit, 6 fat, 2 starch, Any thoughts? Really want the scale to start moving again. I started at 300, than 270, than 260 in Oct, down to 250 in Dec. still about 250.

Still confused THIS IS WHAT I ATE TODAY!

Thanks, I too have been so afraid of CARBS. But my nutrionist keeps telling me to eat carbs but in the form of veg, whole grains etc. also Fruit! She keeps asking me to just do what she says for a few weeks as I keep falling back into my no carb lifestyle. And too few calories. She is determined if I listen that we can fix my motablism. I have notice that I am now eating 1800 calories a day and maintaining my weight. A month or so 1500 was keeping my weight steady. My weight has been virtually the same for the last few months. I also have stoped my blood pressure med which included a Water pill so I think my body has been adjusting to this also. But I do find when I eat fruit and veg and whole grains like Kashi cereal, I feel better. Hunger is not really and Issue. Actually today I was doing alot of yard work and really did not feel like eating. I made a few protien shakes with milk and peanutbutter than made dinner, veg, shrimp. So I am hoping things will work out. thanks for your comments. Ross

    Over filled????

Just came accross your thread, you may well be overfilled and in starvation mode. You may need to have a bit taken out. I was too filled for 6 months, I actually had only lost 10 lbs in those 6 months and went in for a fill cam out with 1 cc less. They have new equippment and I actually could see my band working and much to my surprise it was way too tight! I was Pb a few times a week and eating more slippery foods etc. If you are not eating that your body may be thinking you are starving. I am having issues with my trainer and nutrionist at the gym increasing my food amounts. So my weight is still stable but eating more. Hopfully they are correct. But you may be too tight.

thanks, My Nutrionist wants me to increase the carb (With Whole grains, veg ) I am trying to shift my thinking but it is hard. My band dr said his only suggetion was to decrease carbs, my trainer and nutrionist said he was not awair how much I was working out and it was crazy to be that low in Carbs, Think he said 50. I am thinking of cutting back on the protien shakes. which account for about 30 grams a day. thanks again Ross

Are heavy people looked at differently

Wow what a question, where does one start! I would say yes, we are preseved to be lazy and stupid etc. I would also say that much of this is how we feel others think of us is in our head. But yes people do think of us differently because we are heavy, as people think differently of beautful people. I know that my weight was a big issue all my life and because of it I always felt less than others.

    Need some advice from dads

Just had to comment, YES DO IT NOW! If I had to do it over again, I would have done it years ago. My kids are now 19, 21, 24 and I have much more energy than when they were little. I missed out on so much of thier lives because of my weight. I simply could not do alot of things back than that I can do now so many years later.

Just did a self fill wow feel awesome

Wow, I have thought about this too but would not think of trying it. Friday I finally went back to the dr. to get a fill. Much to my surprise they did a test to see how the band was working. Well, found out I have been too tight for the last 6 months! so they took some out! I thought I needed more restriction but acutally as I was too tight I was going for more slippery foods. Actually feeling so much better. So be careful

    protein shakes

Muscle milk Light, is the best I have found, even the premade drink is good.
  12. Breakfast - 1 egg, 1 pepporage farm flat bread, 1 wedge laughing cow low fat cheese. 1 tbs katsup lunch - 6 onz bison burger, broccoli salad (Stemed than no fat dressing) Snack - 1 scoup Protien powder, 2 tbs 1/2 & 1/2, 2 cups coffie, ice, blended into smoothie. 6 Almonds dinner - 6 onz chicken breast, with a mustard honey sauce. I also tried these Tofo Noodles, which were actually fairly good. Now I am getting a bit hungry, planned a snack of 1/2 cup Trader Joes' High Fiber Cereal. So far today has been a good day about 1000 cal, trying to do lower carb. I have been working hard the last week or so to get my food back on track. Was not bad before just too many carbs and for me it is hard to loose when my carbs are too high.
  13. Hi I was banded in May 09 also. Get back to basics. Cut down on the shakes, eat 1 or 2 eggs for breakfast. I have one egg on toasted pepporage farm flat bread. That should certinly hold you over. 1 egg and 1 flat bread is less than 200 Calories and the flat bread has a good amount of fiber. Lunch again more protien first, than veg. I am now working out 6 days a week so I might have a protien shake in between but the ones I buy are low carb only 100 calories. also drink your water. Just get back to basics.

    Its muscle not fat right?

Hi! How are your clothes fitting? Better or Tighter? I can tell fairly quickly if I am up a few lbs. I am sure you have gained muscel how much is hard to tell. Did the Gym due a body fat % prior to your weight gain? that would give you some Idea. I am 9 months post op. Started at 300 now at 250. I have been working out 4 to 6 times a week with a trainer and meeting with a nutrionist once a week. She actually increased my calories etc. But my weight has been steady, ie up down within 4 /lbs for months now. We have been dicussing it and we agreed that I would cut my carbs down a bit. (35 - 40%) Also have been looking on this site alot and have gotten back to the POST OP way to eat, Protien first, etc. Also avoiding slider foods. Another thing i read is about a "Start Over Diet" Ie liquids for a day or so than introduce protiens and go from their. Their is information on line. You should not feel bad about going back to the Dr. they are thier to help you succed. So if you need a fill get one. I have been thinking of that too but realise that I have enough restriction. Hope this did not confuse you more, but working out is great! So even though your wt is up you are healther and have accomplishe a major weight loss. So be proud and keep up the fight.

    Freaking Out!!! Need Advice!

Hi again, yes we are all very different. The lapband was actually my first surgery too! I am 52 also. I when they were wheeling me into the OR I almost told them to stop! That I wanted to go home. I remember being given something going into the OR and telling them I could move over to the table, which I did. Last thing I rember untill I woke up. My Surgery was at 9:30 I was home by 2:00 PM Even stoped at the store with my wife. She was not happy about that. Their was some pain and discomfort the few days, hard to sleep but took my Pain med when I wanted to sleep for the first few days. One other thing I wish someone had told me. Do not rush to eat too fast. I assure you that you will be able to eat regular type foods but due give yourself time. Especially as the first few week is a great time for weigh loss so dont rush it.

    Freaking Out!!! Need Advice!

Hi, It is good that you check out the surgen, your Dr should have a support group for those who have had the surgery. Look into it. Mine has one each month at the local hospital. Their you will meet others who have had surgery with this dr. So due check this out and go to the meeting. While it is a support group people who are thinking of surgery are welcome to attend and do so oftern. This is different than the Information meeting he may also have. I would not be too concerned with his bedside manner. Although nice, and mine had a great bedside manner you really spend so little time with him I would not be too concerned. You will probily not see him much after surgery. You may want to find out who does his fills, at my dr the Nurse does most of them and she is actually much better than the Dr! My Dr. Does not usually do fills, his time is to valuable etc. but dont want him to do them anyway. Hope this help, please go to one of the support group meetings. Take care Ross
  18. Hi, Hope someone can offer some help. I was banded May 1st 300/lbs. Have been overweight my whole life and yo/yo diet for last 45 years. I have lost 50/lbs which seems slow. My weight has been virtually the same for last 2 months. I started a workout diet program in Sept, nutritionist once a week, daily log. started working out 3x a week now upto 5x weekly. burn off 400 to 500 calories at the gym so 2000+ Cal a week. My nutritionist has me on 1500 to 1600 cal a day. She has been increasing this every few weeks started around 1000 cal. Weight loss has been slow and she says we are working on fixing my slow metabolism. I have told her in the past that I loose weight when really cut the carbs. She agreed now to reduce carbs to 40% 50% Protien 10 Fats. Seem to be loosing but slowly. Was on the Lapband Journiy web site, went to the Nutrition site and they seem to be pushing very low carb, Adkins type. As for my fills, my last fill was in mid Sept. Due to Insurance I had about 4 fills between May and Sept. A bit faster than is recommended. Untill a week ago I was having PB Daily. I still have some discomfort when I initally start to eat. It seems that in the Evening I can eat anyting but in durring the day it can be hard. Hunger is not usually an issue except at night. Also the nutritionist has me eating 3 meals and 3 Snacks a day. Like post workout protien shake etc. she knew about weight loss surgery and she said she is up on it. I was thining of scheduling an apt with my origional WLS nutrionist. But hate to pay when I am already paying for the Gym, Nutrionist and trainer. Any thougts? In the eveing I can eat alot. OH! one more thing! I FEEL GREAT! And cannot remember being this fit. No back problems.

Help? Food Plan, Do I need a fill? Low Carb?

Thanks for your comments, fortunally I have not had a PB in a week or so. But i have been doing more Protien shakes early in the day and making a point to eat really slowly. eating out is especially a problem, I often get stuck but once I pb it seems better. Know this is not good. I seem to be moving towards more slider foods that are not great either. Just have to keep up the fight and find what works. Lowering the carbs helps as once I start hard to stop, so really avoiding any bread and Pasta. Well thanks for your hlep ROSS

  21. Thanks for your comments, the nutritionist at the gym is included in the Team Weight loss program I am doint. I am keeping a daliy diary of food and she revews and comments on it plus is teaching us about nutrition. She actually called my surgeon and finally got someone to talk with but I don't think she has actually talked with her yet. The Protien shakes are to help up my protien and keep the calories down. I usually have one in the Morning before my work out. One after before lunch. Actually I dont do well with eating Breakfast, just not too comfortable. I may look to talk with the Dr. Nutrionist or the one I went to pre-op and post-op as she kind of specilized in this too. What is confusing is on the My lapban journey the are talking really low carb. So I have been trying to keep the carbs to a min and proteen up. Just got back from the gym and 60 min work out. Made up tuna with sugar free diced pickels and tomatos. I do much better with thoes Slider Foods so maybe I dont need a fill. Thanks Ross

    Low Carbers count calories???

Hi I have seen your posts a number of times and thought you could help. I was banded on May 1st 2009. 300/lbs. First few months droped 25/lbs. joined gym etc. Now I am down 50/lbs which does not seem like a lot compaired to others. Since Sept have been going to gym 3 day a week in weight loss / nutrion program. Since Oct I have lost lost about 15/lbs. My weight seems to have stalled around 255 or up and down a lb or two a day. the Nutrionist has me on a 1500 cal about 40% Carbs, 50 Protien etc. She keep telling me that we are working on fixing my matabolism. But I am getting frustrated. Hunger is not really an issue, I still have pb issues especially early in the day. I am thinking of going very low carb. Was looking on the LAP-BAND® Journey site and when you ask for nutrion help you go to this site and they seem to push very low carb, like akins. Would appricate your thoughts. I FEEL GREAT! But want to get this weight off. I am now working out 5 times a week and burn 300 to 500 cal per workout. Would think i would have made more progress.
