Putting whey protein in a blender?
rosstheboss replied to isaviolinist's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have one made by Cooks, from JC Pennys. It is cheeper thatn the bullet and has 4 large cups and a few smaller ones, in fact my friend who have bullets now purchsed this one also. System: Appliances I just wish you could buy extra cups and colored rings. I love mine, had it for over a year...but I think a seal or something has busted. Now when I blend the drinks, the drink actually spills out and its a mess. I'll just have to break down and buy another one. -
Thanks for your post, hope this is not too long but I can certainly sympathize with you and I am also a slow looser, and it is so easy to start to eat NORMAL and for the weigh loss to stop or creep up. For me I have to be really strict with my food plan. I was banded May 1st 2009 at 300/lbs. The first 30 came off quickly, Joined a gym and worked with a nutritionist ( I have posted on this too!) she had me eating more working out and I lost inches but my weight did not really move. From Dec 2009 to Sept 2010 my weight has been fluctuating 248 to 258. Went back to my Bariatric nutritionist who helped me get down to the 248 mark again. A friend told me about a weight loss program in town that she was going to so I joined. It is more restrictive than what my nutritionist had me on. The daily totals were similar but for me I need limit my choices and it has started to work. Since Oct I have stared to loose again and now down to 238 (15 From Goal) Actually I meet with my Bariatric nutritionist early this week and she is ok with the plan and agreed that I loose slowly and that I need low carbs to get things moving. My plan now has 1200 to 1500 calories about 50 – 60 carbs a day and yes probably too much Protein. Some of us really need to be strict. I am hoping that as it has taken me so long to lose the weight that I have a chance to keep it off. I still work out with a trainer 3 times a week and try to get in another 1 or 2 work outs a week. Even my Trainer and Nutrionist say that weight loss is 90% Diet and only 10% Exersize! So it is mostly what you eat! But working out is great too (NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER SAY THAT!) But it is amazing how good you feel when you start to work out. If you are wondering my plan is as follows. Breakfast 1 Protein – 1 carb – Protein Supplement Snack (Optional – Protein supplement 70 – 100 calories) lunch 1 Protein – Fruit – Veg – Protein Supplement Snack (Optional – Protein supplement 70 – 100 calories) dinner 1 Protein – 1 Carb – Veg – Protein Supplement Snack (Optional – Protein supplement 70 – 100 calories) The Protein supplement drink should be low carb, low cal type. Due to the band I usually have it before I eat. Protein Serving, 6 onz meat, 6 onz cottage cheese, you can also have hard cheese once per day. Carb – 40 Calorie type bread 1 slice breakfast / Dinner KEEP UP THE FIGHT! I had hoped I could just eat normal but less and loose but for me that did not seem to work, I am hoping I will be able to maintain that way. Good Luck ROSS THE BOSS

Panniculectomy is it as painful to get as it is to pronounce?
rosstheboss replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you for your post, in fact I was going to post for men to discuss their PS. I am down 55/lbs now and want to loose another 20 or so. But am also thinkng of talking to a PS for tummy tuck etc. -
Hi, I posted on this before and guess I am looking for some encouragement. For those of you who did not see my original post. I was banded on May 1, 2009 at 300/lbs. Join a jym with a trainer and nutritionist in July of that year and have been working out ever since. I dropped 30/lbs quickly and the last 20 have been a struggle. I have been hovering around the 250 - 258 mark for almost a year. The Nutritionist at the gym had me eating around 1700 - 1800 calories. With this weight was fairly stable around the 258 mark. Went to the Bariatric Nutritionist who says I was eating far too much. And after I loose the weight I can work on increasing calories, she cut me back to around 1300, and under 100 carbs a day. The GYM Nutritionist says 1500 is ok and maybe a few more carbs. So Here I am. So I have been sticking to around 1300 calories, not much fun. And wondering if the rest of this weight will ever come off. Still working out 3 to 5 times a week. Need to go at least 5 times but all this working out has hurt my knees so I have been going to PT twice a week. I have been keeping carbs around 100 a day. Went a bit crazy on a month long vacation and when I returned in early Aug was up to 258 again. Today down to 247 in like 8 weeks. but it is slow. I do not need a fill as I cannot eat in the Morning and having some PB Issues 3 or 4 times a week. The Bariatric Nutritionist said not to worry yet about this and to get this final 22/lbs off. Any suggestions. I was thinking to move up to around 1500 calories and increase my work outs a bit. Also a friend is going to Metabolic Research center. which is also low carb and supplements for Metabolism and doing quite well. Just want to get this last 20 lbs off!!

Anyone else intimidated by the skinny's at the gym??
rosstheboss replied to JMinDallas's topic in Fitness & Exercise
No they are an example of what I want to be. One note however is that many of the guys who look good in the gym dont look as great in the locker room. That is helpful too, they are not perfect. -
Hi, I was very active in OA like 25 years ago, I was only 20 at the time lost lots of weight, than life got in the way got married moved etc. Went back again few years ago, problem is I am a guy and thier are not alot of men. Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
rosstheboss replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A word about post-op. follow the dr directions, this is the time you can loose lots of weight. When you get to the non clear foods try Egg Drop soup, lots of protiene. Also I was not really that hungry those first few weeks it was more head hunger and having that feeling that I would never be able to eat again. I wish I had someone wispering in my ear: { You will be able to eat } So just take your time and follow the path, do not push real foods too soon, you will get to them eventually so take your time. -
I didnt have to really tell anyone my wife did it for me! I or we told a few good friends about it and they were all very encourging. After the weight started comming off I would shair the information as I felt was needed and depending alot on the person that was asking. Was much more open to thoes with a weight problem. The Band is a great tool to get you started. You will still have to do the work. do follow instruction especially those first few months when you are starting to eat again this is when you can drop alot of weight. Don't worry like I did thinking that you could never eat again because you will. As your wife had surgey you are probibly more prepaired than i was.

You prob wont get a fill, you are still adjusting and swolen so no. I was only starting soft foods at 2-3 weeks. If I remember it was a few months untill my first fill.

Is my nutritionist keeping me fat? scale is the same. Since banding shirt size from 2x to xl-large, Waist 44-46 now 38) In addition to trainer have working with a nutritionst who has been increasing my calories. She wants me to eat at least 1800 a day. Granted I am eating more and weight is stable but I really want to loose at least another 30 lbs or so. I keep a food journal etc. Since last week the scale has started to move, I droped my calories to around 1300, very well balance, also cut down on artifical sweetners, and also protien drinks etc. She looked over my food journal today and said I really need to eat at leat 1700 to 1800 and be very consistant. She said to eat. 200 grams Protien etc. and put the protien drinks back in. So really not sure what to do. Made an appoitment with a the Nutritionist I went to as part of the LAP-BAND®. Last time I had a fill they said to decrease the carbs, i am now eating about 150 grams a day. But I really fell bad when I cut them too low espically when I work out. On Monday I had some meetings so did not eat before my work out and really felt bad. Today food, which I increased per her advice was as follows, Breakfast, Egg on Pepperidge farm deli flat. Snack: Mellon Lunch: Eggbeaters, Deli Flat, swiss cheese Snack: Protien bar and shake Dinner: chicken / Bison , salad Snack: Protien Shake, 1tbs peanutbutter Total: 1735 Calories, 149 Protien, 48 Fat, 173 Carb, 34 Fiber. Would love to have any help. Thanks

Hi all, have posted before on this topic, I am feeling good and are in best shape I can remember. Was banded May 1st 2009, down from 300/lbs. today 248/lbs. So 52/lbs. lost. Have been working out 3 to 5 times per week since October. (Burn 400 - 600 Calories per workout) My weight has been virtually the same since Dec up and down between 248 to 254. Good news is a suit I purchase Dec is now big but scale is the same. Since banding shirt size from 2x to xl-large, Waist 44-46 now 38) In addition to trainer have working with a nutritionst who has been increasing my calories. She wants me to eat at least 1800 a day. Thanks, Actually had this done at the gym, with calculations for the work out zones etc. I will have to look back on the papers but I believe my base Metabolism was 2400 calories. My resting heart beat is low like 46 BPM. I too was a bit surprised yesterday when she said to eat like 200 grams of protein. I have an app with the Nutritionist that I saw before and after surgery so I can get a sanity check. I think I will just try to keep around the 1400 mark and see what happens. The Math does not work out as by all means I should still be dropping some pounds. I have become fit and fat which I know is better than fat and not fit. Again I am pleased and my size keeps going down. But would really like to get some of this fat off. Thanks

Great post, Yea it can be frustrating, I too lost weight in my feet! But evetually the rest start to shrink too. Still have too much around the belly etc. but slowly getting better. Just hang in thier.

Follow your dr orders, do not worry about eating! You will be able to eat real food again! I wish I had someone telling me that when I was first banded as I kind of rushed things and those first few months while you gradually introduce food back is a key time that you can drop alot of weight. So trust me you will eat real food again, give it as much time as they tell you!

Oh yes Yes YES! It is amazing the difference, I am 1 year out down 50/lbs, and have been working out for 9 months. I do not sweat a 10th of what I did in the past. Yea I sweat at the gym but you are suppose to. Yeasterday was doind some planting 90+ deg. and did not really sweat a bit. Was not hard planting just few plants but really do not sweat much at all now.

Hi, It can be so frustrating when your weight stalls, I am in a similuar position, was banded a year ago and down 50 lbs which is great. Have been working out for 9 months 3 x a week with trainer, and 1 or 2 days additional on my own. And meet weekly with a nutrionist who has increased my food. My weight has been around 250 since January, but I am down a few sizes and recently visited some friends I had not seen since January and they could not believe I had lost so much more weight, they found it harder to believe it when I told them my weight was the same. So keep up the good work and the gym. I too have been pushing to cut down carbs while keeping my calories up. Since January also my calories have gone up from 1200 to around 1800. I was told by my nutrionist not to expect much in the way of weight loss for a number of months, but now I really want to drop an additional 20 / lbs. So hopfully cutting the carbs will help.

Too much exercise not enough calories?
rosstheboss replied to thesuzcat's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks for your imput. The scale is still staying the same, last time I was at the Dr. his only suggestions was to cut down on the carbs to 50 or so a day. So I have been trying that for the last few days and will give it a week or so to see if it helps. He did not have a problem with increased calories but while my Gym Nutrionists wants me at 1900 I think I will shoot for 1500 and low carb to see what happends. On a positive note, people are saying I have lost so much more weight and they are shocked when I tell them I am the same weight as I was in December! So I guess working out is at least changing some of thoes lbs of fat to lbs of muscle. But really would like to see the scale move. May 1st is my banaversary. So 50/lbs is great and I feel so much better and can do things I havent done in years due to increase in strenght etc. Well actually time to get to the Gym Thanks -

rosstheboss replied to thesuzcat's topic in Fitness & Exercise
thanks could you shair your actual food plan. My Trainer also has us eating every 3 hours or so. Also the importance of eating after work out etc.
