I was banded on the 17th also. There are a lot more of us that were banded on the 17th that I've met in other threads. Awesome medical results for a 30 lb. weight loss, Tad!:smile2: It's wonderful that you also have a support system in your wife, who has gone through this before you! Hi, Anii! As I said in the other thread, we're still doing great with our 9 lb. weight loss!

You're right jenni! I knew going into this that if I wanted fast drastic weight loss that lap band would not be the surgery for me if I wanted to attain weight loss in a healthy way. I'm happy to accept slow and steady. Still, with that being said, I'm sure I'll always want to see more weight loss than less on the scales. I've have a least five co-workers that have had Roux-en-Y. They're weight loss has been DRASTIC in a short period of time. For reasons I won't go into, I opted to go Lap-Band knowing that is would be a slower weight loss. Now I need patience, huh?

lose2regainme, your screen name is inspiring to me. "Lose to regain me" is the truth! Here are a few quotes, etc. my best freind gave me: Courage...doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying...I will try again tomorrow. Mary Anne Radmacher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kind words can be short and easy, but their echoes are endless. Mother Teresa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Abraham Lincoln ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Irish Prayer May God give you... For every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, And an answer for each prayer. -

Newbie, banded St. Patty's day 09! Is my weight loss normal?
Moondust replied to Anii's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Anii! There are a lot of us that were banded on St. Patty's Day, Welcome! I went for my 2 week appt. yesterday and have lost 9 lb. also. The PA said that was great for 2 weeks. I had hoped I'd lost more but I'm happy with the loss of 9 lbs. Don't be discouraged. Remember, if we'd had a more drastic bariatric surgery the weight would be dropping off of us much more quicky. I figure that because I chose not to do that, losing at a slower rate is the result. The more realistic our expectations are the better off we'll be in the long run. We're doing just fine with a nine pound weight loss, Anii! AliciaA122, great advice! -
rachel75 & jennibells, I'm glad you're doing good. miaj410 & bandofhope, How about you? I did go to the Dr. for the 2 week appt. yesterday. I saw one of the PA's. She's decided not to do my first fill at 4 weeks since I will have so much going on with my husband at that time. Its now scheduled for April 23rd. (The day before my birthday, lucky me!) She said she would numb me before the fill (good to know.) I did lose 9 lbs. I wish it had been more but I'm happy. Rough way to lose 9 lbs., huh? lol! She said I can eat regular foods now, as tolerated. I have been on mushies for almost a week. I kind of feel rushed through this process. I went to several classes and read the guide book they gave us where you don't even eat soft foods until the 2nd week. I think they need to update their material. I told her I actually feel weaker now than I did a week out. She said some people do, my body is still adjusting to the surgery and the change in nutrition. (Perhaps my age plays into this too. She didn't say.) I also rode a recumbant bike for a mile (slowly) and my sides are aching like crazy. She said it's because the port is attached to the same muscle that is moving. What was I thinking? I'm more sore from that than I anticpated because I was biking very slowly. All in all, I feel like I am doing ok!

Your Weight Loss at 1 month appointment?

Anyone else care to respond? -
It's been nearly 2 weeks for me and I will ocassionally have the feeling of needles in my port area when I reach to the left (my port on the right). Has this been common for anyone else? I go for my 2 week appt. Tuesday and will ask the PA at that time.

jennibells, I hear ya! As I type my husband has a pretty good smelling pizza in the oven. I am not a bit hungry but that smell is enticing.

Another Newbie from The Buckeye State

Hi! Another "Buckeye" joining the ranks of the recently "banded". I found this site on a Google search. I wish I'd known about it before my surgery. I've found it very helpful. I look forward to joining in. -
Hi, Rachael75! I'm doing okay. I am still a bit tender where my port is with an occasional sensation of needle pricks when I lean to the left or walk to much (must be the fat pulling?). Other than that I'm slow moving but much better than I'd expected. Luckily, my Dr. is giving me an 2 addtional weeks off to get strong. My husband is having a knee replacement the day after my four week appt. I am assuming that I will get my first fill then. I'm a bit anxious with all of this happening at once. I also need a knee replacement and am walking with a cane. The pain is the great motivater for the lap band. I think I may take a bit longer to be up to par because of that situation. miaj410, I did not mean to hi-jack your thread. jennibells & bandofhope, I am truly interested in your progress.

Hi, miaj410! Count me in as being "banded" on the 17th also. I started having the same "growling" sounds a few days ago. Gas-X is now my friend, thanks to the Protein suppliments that are causing so much gas. rachel75, jennibells & bandofhope, How cool that we were all banded on St. Patrick's Day? Are you all doing okay?

Bloating and Gas...how do I get rid of it?
Moondust replied to DeLytfulD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seannie, Is the gas painful or "manageable"? What do you take for gas? Christi6933, Congrats on your new beginning! Gas-X chewables are helping me a lot along with a lot of walking. Right now I know the real gas culprit for me are the Protein suppliments. I am hoping that as I am able get more of my protein from food that it lessens. I am nearing the end of my second week on full liquids and starting some soft foods. We'll see! I hope you coninue to do well and get rid of that gas! -
mlfull, Are you feeling better? I know the dry throat didn't last too long for me. The sparing partner (lol!) feeling, well, I'm still a little tender. glo13 and stareeide4u, I hope you breezed right through!

gone 4 ever, I have to say I love living here even though it's getting pretty scary economically since Dayton is a GM town and the factories have closed. My youngest son goes to Ohio State in Columbus. He loves the Columbus area. I have sister-in-laws that lived there after they graduated and would have never moved except their jobs were tranfered. ...so does "gone 4 ever" refer to Ohio or the excess weight, lol? -

Hi, Kelly! I'm from just south of Dayton. I got the band on St. Patrick's Day. -
Hi, monylove! I'm from SW Ohio. I got the band on St. Patrick's Day. I'm hopeful for a new beginning! Glad you are doing well.

glo13, stareeide4u & mlfull, Today is the day! Prayers, postive healing vibes and great thoughts for you today. It's a turning point in a new direction!

Lois Ruth, The Gas-X should offer some relief. I'm glad you're feeling good otherwise. -
Bloating and Gas...how do I get rid of it?
Moondust replied to DeLytfulD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
itschoice, I just bought 7 bottles of Isopure to get me through this week. I suppose I'll suffer through until it's gone since I paid $3.99 for ea. 20 oz. bottle. I have another week of full liquids then I'll be able to get some Protein from food. Sadly, at that cost, I'll litterally "suffer" through. I will say the Gas-X chewables did offer some relief. I'll just be glad when I can actually be able to push some of this gas out myself when the port site won't be so tender. It's been 8 days and it's still pretty touchy. Dannylu, I haven't walked so much in 2 years. The gas is a great motivater, lol! Right now I am walking with a cane. I need a knee replacement but the surgeon won't touch my knee with all this weight, thus....my decision to have lap band. I have walked three times a day since this surgery just to help get some confort with all this gas. No telling what I'm doing to my knee. -

DeLytfulD, I was banded a week ago yesterday. I wasn't miserable with gas until I started drinking Isopure protein suppliments and chocolate Unjury protein suppliment. Believe me, I feel your pain. I just got home from the pharmacy from buying chewable Gas-X (125 mg smiethecone). I sure hope it helps!
