I gave up the diet cokes (former bigtime addict) and when I tried them months later I couldnt believe how bad they tasted! I havent had one in more than two years...once in a while I will have a sip of my husbands and hey still taste awful! Weird...any carbonation is doable but uncomfortable for me...I do drink coffee in the morning and have no trouble with it nor did my doc advise against it.

There is a blog called the sweet spot by band_groupie that calls it being a scale *****...she even has a scale whores anonymous group! I still weigh every day even though it never changes...as long as it doesnt increase stress (and you sound like you have a healthy attitude about it!) I think its fine.

Help! Feel Like I Need To Vomit...
xavier replied to lgm217's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will eventually get sick as everyone does, maybe from the band (overeating) or a stomach bug...its not that big of a deal. Best to just ride it out if you can for now. I have gotten sick plenty of times since being banded and I am fine. I think lots of vomiting can cause a slip but my doc sews his bands down and has never had one. In any case, you wont get a slip from vomiting once or twice! -
I know this is going to sound mean, but why are you with men who treat you like garbage? Seriously what are you getting out of the relationship? And if there are children is this what you want them to learn???

Made The Decision....seminar This Saturday
xavier replied to hopeo71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I self paid for the same reason and of course it was the best money ever spent! But I still wonder if I could or should have gained a few pounds to qualify for insurance coverage...at the time the idea of deliberately gaining weight was just too scary but now I could really use that money back for some plastic surgery!! -
Im Self Pay--What If I Have A Hiatal Hernia??
xavier replied to Tahneesamson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Me too I was told an additional fee because I knew i had one (if you have had a CT scan it will be on there) anyway my doc went ahead and billed the insurance for it and they paid it...I was also self pay. -
I like all the cream soups that come in a carton/box. I love the butternut squash and the roasted red pepper...you can strain or blend any of the ones with lumps...also add a scoop of unflavored protein in there!

Just make carrot soup...sautee some onion in olive oil, put in some spices and your carrots till soft...addd veg stock, cream, or coconut milk and then do the immersion blender...

Should I Or Shouldnt I Get Banded
xavier replied to chaya's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The band keeps me from eating too much regular food. I just have my own willpower because sweets go right through...sleeve would be the same. Gastric bypass (in my opinion) is for someone who is so obese they are basically going to die anyway and yes the dumping syndrome does wear off and then you could eat sweets again. -
All I can say is it will all be worth it! My whole experience was easier than I ever thought it would be although the first year was a big adjustment...it is truly easy now and my weight never changes no matter what I do...
-
I wish I had known the surgery and recovery would be easy for me (they were!) and that although the first year was a crazy struggle of adjustment...at this point I hardly even think about it because its just a lifestyle and that I would be wearing a size six and that my weight never changes at all! I wish I could have known so I wouldnt have worried so much that it would be the best money I ever spent! I used Mederma on the scars and they are barely visible.

Well you are wise to realize that these are just normal feelings and behaviors. I did ok during my preop diet by telling myself it was my last diet ever..and it was! I had never had surgery before and was pretty scared. Also I wrote a check for 15K that day and thought am I crazy??? But here I am in a size 6 and I just live my life and my weight never changes...I would do it all over again tomorrow if needbe! Best of luck!!!

Help..will I Qualify Now?

Disappointment is a big part of life and getting and living with the band is a big struggle...if you are up for this then get reevaluated...what do you really have to lose? -
Sleep Apnea Mask For 3 Months :(
xavier replied to Princess Jaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The cpap willl make you healthier (more oxygen) for the surgery. Sleep apnea starves your body of oxygen and makes it harder to heal... -
I have read a couple of posts here where people did the 6 month diet, fell below the insurance's required BMI and got denied ...be careful...the insurance company's only goal here is to save money!

The thing is I still eat all the crappy food if I feel like it, but just not much of it, and protein first. I dont eat any diet or low fat or fake sugar food so even if I ate Chinese food or McDonalds all day I just cant eat enough of it to have trouble...do you think you might need a fill?

Esophageal Problems...did Body Return To Normal After Removal?
xavier replied to AWright's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You say you still have bad reflux so I think your esophageal pains at night are not unexplained. I take Protonix and it seems to work really well. -
Prunes, prune juice, and water are a great start. Next is a stool softener which isnt a laxative and therefore less of a medication. This might sound like bad advice in terms of calories but anything that has fake sugar in it (sugar alcohols which end in -ol like sorbitol) will pull water into your colon and make you poop. I eat two or three of those diet Russell Stover chocolates and then I can easily poop...good luck!

Basically it just means for any healthcare you receive, the first 3K is on you...after that they pay.

Is your boyfriend trying to help you and maybe even make some healthier choices himself? Or is he just a cheeseburger type of guy and you are on your own? I am assuming you have kids together and that you would both want to have a healthier lifestyle for your kids...

I would say a week at the most if you are otherwise pretty healthy.

Here I Am 2 Years And 1 Month Later
xavier replied to Cindysmom (Ilene)'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A lot of people say its really hard to lose the last few pounds. I wanted to get to 145 for normal BMI but my weight just plateaued at 155 for several months (I did not attempt to lose it by dieting or exercising as that had obviously never worked longterm in the past!) I got a 0.3cc fill which I thought was ridiculously tiny but I lost 14 pounds in about 10 weeks quite easily and have been areound 138 to 140 ever since...I still dont diet or exercise. Best 15K I could have ever spent! -
Usually it will loosen up if you lose a bit of weight but at this point its probably best to get a tiny bit taken out...

Worth every penny and yes, I also self paid!
