    Advice with giving up soda?

I was a Diet Coke addict and my doc said it was ok to keep drinking it although you might feel burpy with anything carbonated. I can still drink it no problem but I dont like the taste! Weird!

    11/17/09 Doing A 180

Well I know myself to be jealous and competitive so hopefully your 180 will get me going! You look absolutely fantastic...and a little surprised at yourself in that photo! I love it! I still cant believe how strong the pattern for me to (try to ) overeat is...even now when it can be quite painful! Duh!!!
  4. Hey! You MUST see tennesseequeens photos!!! They are on the first (last I guess) page under the photos tab at the top...she became a beauty queen!

Not losing weight - very frusterated

Dear Ibutor, Sorry to jack the thread off topic but I was a self pay also and I am wondering if you would have to self pay for that too or is there any way it would be covered by insurance or even the doc for not tacking it down right? Have they given you a clue on what it will cost? Good luck...

11/16/09 Changing the Right Things is Hard

I hate myself for reading this blog, thinking how wise and sensible you are and THEN...thinking I couldnt wait for the 'one new thing' that would surely be weight loss magic!!! I am laughing at myself right now for still believing in that kind of magic!!!

    11/13/09 Water, Water, Everywhere...

I KNOW I dont drink enough...I'm going to try to keep a bottle nearby...
  9. Just a note on the original Boca burger: 100 cals and 18gm protein.
  10. I think its as simple as this: If we could lose weight permanently with a protein shake diet we already would have and wouldnt need the band.We HAVE to learn how to eat real food for the rest of our lives. That said, I almost always have a Special K shake in the morning because i am too tight for food. PS: Best solid proein source if youre a veg...Boca burgers. I love them and they are huge protein for minimal calories.

    Biggest Loser Fall 09

We looked up that street rider the next day at work...very pricey but you know that its going to end up on Ebay in six months from all the people who bought it but never used it...we agreed we'd try to get one then...it really looks fun!!I got my Tony Little rock and roll stepper on Ebay for $6.13!!! LOL!
  12. I think you're really going to do great because you have the whole thing (life I guess) in good perspective! One tiny piece of advice, Make sure you are geeting an abdominal binder..mine was on me when I woke up and he said keep it on for two weeks. You can get one at a drug store and it will make your first week a piece of cake. Otherwise your tummy kind of pulls whichever way if youre standing or lying down or whatever and its quite painful...the binder just keeps everything snugged in! Its just a big elastic thing with velcro but it really helped especially with post op sleeping...good luck, you wont need the luck!

  13. I would say the chewing is something you get used to and it really raises your awareness of what and how much you are putting into your mouth. If I dont chew well enough or take one bite too many I get a small ping in my shoulder which will become real pain if I dont stop eating...I LOVE it. I call it the bitch-slap I need to eat right! I would say be careful who you tell or it can become the only thing people want to talk about and ask you about and look you up and down to evaluate how they judge you to be doing...also I have read some nasty comments made to people about it so you have to be strong because some people are really mean...Its medical, its personal, I would at least start by only telling the people who you KNOW will support you...Good Luck!
  14. I had mine done in LA which is about a four hour drive from home. I stayed in a hotel for a couple of days. I never went to see my doc for several months after that...its not that big of a procedure and there really is no wound care. Of course you need to be ok to travel home (taking fluid ok by mouth) and then you need to have medical care available like your primary doc if you would develop an infection ( but you wont!)
  15. They LOAD you with IV fluids during the procedure and the internal inflammation (swelling) from the trauma is the body holding onto fluid in areas that are healing. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds and they do hang those big IV fluid bags...it will take a while to heal for the body to get back to normal fluid levels!!
  16. The steri strips usually peel up and kind of curl at the ends...you can just trim that as it happens until they are all gone.I also only had the Dermabond and could shower whenever.

    Am I Nuts?

Hope I can help. That shoulder pain is called referred pain meaning it is referred from somewhere else. Things move around as the human embryo develops and nerves slide across each other as the baby grows. The most common area of referred pain for the diaphragm and lower esophagus/upper stomach is the shoulders, usually left. (Its like how left arm or jaw pain can signal a heart attack) I get some pretty bad left shoulder pain if I over eat. I try to eat slowly and occasionally I take a deep breath to push the diaphragm down onto my pouch...if I feel a little ping in that left shoulder...I know I better quit eating....OK last night I had real pain in both shoulders after an encounter with Halloween candy!! O love my referred pain, its the bitch slap I need!!!

    help..

Go to the PHOTOS tab at the top of the screen. Lots of incentive of why to get the band...but theres a post of pictures there by Sarah.R ( I think) and it shows what her belly looks like right after the procedure.

When will I be happy with my body?

PS: Your before pictures look like a not very happy middle aged mom and your current ones you look like a teenager!!!

When will I be happy with my body?

My figure is exactly like yours and I hate it. I think the small waist big hips, even if the woman is heavy, is more girly feminine than the thick waist!! I am at 187 and also 5'4" so I am fatter than you but very same shape and the side view is the killer. Here's what I think...I still want to lose a couple of more jean sizes and want to get into the normal range which I think is 145. From there if I still have the tree trunk waist...I seriously may get a tummy tuck, lift or whatever! I might need it anyway for loose skin! The other thing is I have a tall sister who has always had a small waist but has also been thin (yes, I hate her for it and she knows it) anyways she quit smoking once and gained around 50 pounds and , guess what??? Tree trunk fat waist! So then I think that area is just going to be the last to go and I really hope it does!!! I hope that helps....incidentally you look pretty fantastic to me! Diane

    10/29/09 Happy Weight

I have been dreaming of wearing a single digit size! But I think the standard weight charts are reflections of health risks so I think I need to at least be in the normal range...also I think if I am eating/living right, (healthy food and a comfortable amount of it)my weight will settle at a good point!? I hope so!
  25. I agree entirely...I felt lucky to have the tiny shred of willpower to maintain my weight during the I-need-fill- phase!!! You are right, if I could lose and maintain on my own why would I have gotten a band...tried to binge a little the other night, the band said no in a very assertive way!!! Good luck!!
