  1. Looks perfect to me! I have missed you, 2fly! You pix with the tiny food bowl really stuck with me! You look great and thanks for letting us see you!!!
  2. I havent told anyone except my liitle family. I am still gurgling on liquids from my fill even at 12:30 in the afternoon but I could eat a little soft food last night at dinner...I'm GLAD to be tight so far!

Yes, thanks for the update...it gives us all motivation to see that internal change you are talking about. I live in Ca so I will pray for snow for you but not for me...my palm trees and I don't like it!
  4. Well I finally went to a closer doc for a fill (1.5 hour drive instead of 4-5 hours). I just always put off going and I guess I'm lucky I never gained. Anyway she gave me 1.7ccs! Now I'm kind of gurgling on the liquids so we'll see.You have really done great because this new doc said my 5ccs in there (10cc band) was like not having a band! I did have some restriction in the morning but at night was a free-for-all! Anyway I will keep you posted how this goes, I am always glad to hear from you or read your blog!!!

I think this is an appropriate place to post any complications and opinions about weight loss procedures and I was glad to hear Jaffa's story. I am a self pay bander and very happy with that choice. Unless you can see in the crystal ball and know you will have complications I don't agree that unilaterally the band is a poor choice for self payers...but that's just my opinion and Jaffa is certainly entitled to his/hers and to express it here. I think the tag line with DONT GET THE BAND over and over is excessive but hey, it not mine! Everyone's opinions on here are valuable!

    Healthy Cost More

Sorry but those huge bags of rice and dried beans from Cosco are practically free, very healthy, and very filling! Eating OUT is always a waste of money. On the other hand I get what you mean so good luck....
  7. Sounds great, Michael Pollan would be proud...I try to follow him too. I am in the process of looking for a fill doc closer to me. I live on the central coast and had my surg in LA so I hate driving down there...

  8. That turned out fantastic...what a great idea! You rock!

    Fantastic before/after pix!
  10. Hope life is going well...I have been slacking quite a bit and 'gotten away with it' because I dont gain...but guess what I dont lose either! Probably going to get a tiny fill...

  11. Hey, hows it going? I am trying to get back on this site more because I need a reality check. I have really been slacking and the fact that I have never gained (havent lost either) seems to have 'helped' me delude myself that things were ok...

    I dont want the sleeve.!

The difference isnt in how much weight you have to lose. Its how much work you think you can do and keep up. The band (my estimation) is a 50/50 game. It does half the work and you must do the other. It has the lowest risk of the weight loss surgeries. The sleeve is cutting your stomach from a bag to a tube and throwing the bag part in the trash. You WILL lose weight because you dont have a stomach and you wont have to work as hard on limiting the things you eat and exercise etc. The gastric bypass reroutes your anatomy so you cant eat as much AND you cant absorb some of what you eat. If you have never lost a significant amount of weight or kept weight off for any length of time at all you made need option 2 or 3. But if you have some will power and have had some success with self discipline, the band should work for you. Your face looks young so I hope the band might work for you before going to more risky/invasive/permanent type procedures but hey, whatever works! Good luck. You should get lots of good answers and support here!

    P.O'd PCP

Basically they are asking your PCP to put in writing that you wont die on the operating table. He cant predict that and it is more appropriate for a cardiologist or an anesthesiologist to determine that...but this is just how things work.. That remark about jogging at 5am was out of line!
  14. Congrats!! What insurance do you have? I havent even checked mine cuz I KNOW it wont be covered!!! Good luck!

I'm glad you got what you wanted but you are dead wrong about the complication rates and I would ask you to cite your reference. Morbidity and mortality are way higher for sleeve than band.
  16. Would love to see where your read machine was better unless its the product advertisement for the staple gun...ever see a machine used on a face? Of course not. AND the photo, where the scar looks perfect is the one person who doesn't scar...would need to see 100 or 1000 cases to see the truth...just sayin"!
  17. Agree, but why not ask for the tiny hand-sewn everywhere if you know about it? Things have changed a little but since it is a self pay elective procedure why not ask for and get what you want? I would bet any $ that no machine or stapler has ever touched the skin of Demi Moore!
  18. Of course there is risk to any surgery but the lap band is very minimal. My surgeon has had no deaths and no serious complications. Find a good surgeon who shows his complication rates.I dont want to be rude but if you are around 100 pounds overweight your risks are higher from the obesity than the surgery. And if you have been overweight and failed to lose and keep a weight off for many years...(like most of us) this may be just what you need. You will find most people on this site feel like the band has saved their lives!Good luck, you'll get lots of support and straight answers here!

I think I see everyone's point of view and feel terrible for anyone with complications such as a leak. It's failure of the product not the doc or (ridiculous) the patient. Overall I think lapband is a great choice and only becomes cost prohibitive in terms of us self-payers if there is a complication. In the absence of a complication (and these are much more frequent with procedures such as sleeve or bypass), I can't agree that its better to have your stomach removed and tossed in the trash (sleeve) to save money on fills! There is no way the cost of fills comes close to what the great majority of us have already wasted on binge food, gyms, pills, diet programs etc!
  20. Just my opinion...ask if your surgeon if he plans to use staples in your skin. Staples are easy and fast but leave the little frankenstein scars all along the incision. They are an indication of a lazy surgeon and I would never go to one who does that. They are for inside the body not the skin. With hand suturing the thread is in/under the skin so there are no side scars/holes. Good luck to all!

The Major Reasons for Weight Lost. What is yours?

I just constantly felt ashamed of myself...maybe that sums up a lot of what you're saying.
