I'm So Gonna Make This Work! Confessions....
xavier replied to felkatz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First if you are overeating and throwing up and continuing to eat, you probably need therapy like counseling. Second, I am a fish eating vegetarian and I eat a lot of beans to get protein. Beans are probably the most nutritious food there is and they are basically almost free! Especially if you buy the bags of dry beans and throw them in the crock pot! The thing is I overate like a fiend and thats why I was obese...now I eat tiny meals of only really good fresh (often more expensive) food and I think I save money...a restaurant meal is probably five servings for me now...good luck, a lot of this is learning to be honest with ourselves. -
For me green zone is as simple as very full an any food of about 1/2 to 3/4 cup. A couple more bites and I am too full.In the green zone I lost 5-6 pounds a month consistently and I never exercised or ate any diet foods or dieted or counted calories. Here's my little trick for head hunger. Ok, so you are hungry and someone offers you an apple or to have all your bills paid. (the apple has to be a food that is ok but not a favorite) If you refuse the money for the apple you are actually physically hungry and the body will not deny true hunger in exchange for money...if you would rather have the money, you are having head hunger meaning you want food but you are not physically hungry. Now once you know its head hunger saying no to it is a lifelong struggle!

Oh I feel bad for both of you but I am thrilled that I am not alone!!! it is such a weird feeling! I am about ten pounds heavier than when I was in college and I never noticed my tailbone then but I guess now with the weight loss and butt muscle loss of just getting older (Im 48). I guess squats can build up the butt muscles and I probably should get going on those! Thanks so much for posting!!!

Burning In Thighs After Surgery?
xavier replied to kellybelly081's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it might have something to do with how you are positioned on the surgery table...I have heard of this somewhere and that it does go away... -

You sound like you are in the right place mentally and this is a mental battle! Henry Ford said, "Whether you think you can or you cant, youre right." -
Help Will They Know If I Ate Something?!??
xavier replied to YumiiShyy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok first, they will NEVER know and second nearly everyone of us has done that! Although you are going to have to have some discipline with the band I think you have already shown that you do have a lot of discipline with one tiny slip...this is a time to be nice to yourself...get over the slip and dont beat yourself up over it! -
Well this is going to be some tough love... you may think your life was 'full' with eating with friends and family but in reality if the food was the most important thing it actually was kind of empty. and with your friend the value there should be her and of course you and your connection, again if it was food it wasnt the friendship you thought it was. This is a time to enjoy your life and the people in it without the anesthesia of food. If you reread your post and change all the food reference to cocaine you can see it just wasnt healthy. This is a scary and exciting time to see who you are and what you value without food at the center of it...I can tell you I was just like you and now I just feel so free...I enjoy food but it just isnt that important to me now...I am living my life! Best of luck...you will get plenty of hugs and love here and you deserve it but I am the harsh voice of reality that I think you also need because i needed it too and I think we all do!

All you can do it let time pass...gas x and walking just give you something to do but I dont really think they work. Gas x is for gas inside your digestive tract...not the stuff that is loose in your abdomen from the doc puffing you up. That being said, it cant hurt and walking is always good. The thing is you are supposed to feel like crap for a few days after any surgery...if it is even a tiny bit better every day you are fine and it will all be worth it!

So You Think I Can Start Regular Foods Today??
xavier replied to Stace2882's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would never advance my diet in front of other people...this band requires concentration at first to focus on chewing and slowing down...at a party you are at high risk for getting distracted and getting stuck and possibly having to yak in front of other people... just my opinion...plus you will have a lifetime of parties where you will have to have new behaviors different from the pre-band obesity days....this thing is for life! -
Question For Alumni - Twinge From Incision
xavier replied to neekoal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the abdominal binder on when I woke up and I recommend it to everyone...I had a fat tummy that schlumped down or to the side if I slept on my side and it would pull against my incisions...My doc said to wear it for two weeks...they are available at any drugstore... -
Which Liquid Tylenol
xavier replied to waitingpatiently's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just buy the kids liquid advil...but back in the day I remember getting a kids quick dissolve tylenol (big tablets that look like Tums) for my mom who was elderly etc...it just melted away and seems like it would be good. Grape I think... -
Get everything from your insurance co in writing. No they dont weight you at the info session and yes, I have heard of someone who lost approval by losing too much on the 6 month diet.

After Pregnancy Weight Loss
xavier replied to mnjhowell's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Are you getting good nutrition? I dont see how if you are too nauseous to eat properly for the baby you would have gained that much. I know a few people who have gotten unfilled for various reasons and each of them had a different situation in terms of getting to green zone afterward. Some got too tight with less fill than before the unfill. Some needed more than they had before. So its different but it can be done1 -
My doc told me to lose 10 pounds any way I could and I think I lost ten....I think its a good time to start making some changes...

So Nervous! Just A Few Questions!
xavier replied to emcleod6746's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
getting approved may be easy but the band is a lot of work! -
"I can't speak for others but in my opinion "this was a get thin quick"....seriously? You actually thought that? You will have to work for this to work...its as simple as that.

Almost 9 Months Since Banded.. Only Have Lost About 48Lbs...
xavier commented on katgettinaband's blog entry in katgettinaband's Blog
I think you are fine...this is not a race but a lifetime way of doing things differently! -
I have found that a plastic surgeon will take your money any time you offer it like most car salesmen! But I think it would be best to get to normal BMi and make sure you can maintain it for at least 6 months. If you can afford it, it is a great reward for putting yourself at normal BMI where your risk of bad health outcomes is back to normal...vanity is in all of us but please consider your health first!

Brain Messes With My Fills. Anyone Get This?
xavier replied to MrsColeman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I just wanted to let you know I had my last fill of 0.3cc and it helped me lose the last 10 and then 5 pounds easily. I have also heard of someone getting 0.2cc. I would never get more than the 0.2cc if I were you...also I think you are having a panic attack at the time you are perceiving being too tight...something to maybe ask your doc about. -
Mine was a matter of BMI and I didnt think I could gain 25-30 pounds to get it paid for (I mean it would have killed me emotionally not knowing if the lap band would even work for me!). I am still so mad at my lousy insurance co! Plus I had no comorbidities. Now I am normal BMI and normal labs etc and I feel like they should be kissing my feet! But I would do it all over again...my huz always says what a cheap date I am now in terms of food and drinks...

Pissed, Upset, Pregnant And Crying!
xavier replied to ThisMumRocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and his stats for complications are zero! Never had a slip or an erosion or a port flip or a leak! He swes the band down so it really cant slip and he uses a mesh under your port so it cant flip...best of luck!
