When your family says "you don't need surgery, you just need to exercise more", Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you pass the restaurants that got you to where you are, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When they are passing around birthday cake at work, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you want to give in and eat everything in the kitchen, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you can't down one more diet shake, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When the whole family is having seconds and thirds and you are still eating the one saucer of food, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When your support isn't as supportive as they once were, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When the pounds don't come off as fast as you want to, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When the waitress looks at you funny because of what you order, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When a solid piece of food has not crossed your lips in 4 weeks, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you can't decide whether to tell your family and friends, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you start getting more attention from everyone because of how good you look now, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you no longer get the attention from everyone because of how good you look now, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When your kids aren't as embarrassed to be seen with you anymore, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." When you just bought the size that you never thought you would get into again, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." There are many reasons for going through this adventure. Motivation and support is wonderful, but things can and do change along the way. Stay grounded in the fact that when all is said and done, you are doing it for yourself. You deserve to live a healthy and happy life. Give yourself the gift of a better you. Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me."

I am glad you enjoyed it, Jim. Keep doing it for you.

I just got back from meeting with my new surgeon and I am all re-scheduled for next Tuesday, April 21st. So a few more days of Slim-Fast heaven and I will be a bandster.
-
I have an appointment with one of the surgeons' partners tomorrow and they will try and have him do it next week on Tuesday. It is local, but just disappointed.

When the hospital calls at 6 am on the day of your surgery and tells you the surgeon can't perform the surgery that day, Tell yourself, "I am doing this for me." Seriously, tho. That happened to me this morning. Total bummer.

Cristina, you so totally ROCK! That made my day on a day that I needed it. I am getting banded tomorrow and I am on clear liquids right now.

I think popcorn is the one food that I hope I will be able to tolerate after I get banded (This Thursday April 16th.)

Kimo, I think this statement by itself indicates that you are not ready for bariatric surgery. I think that when you are ready to make a life-long commitment to eating right and maintaining a healthy weight then the surgery won't seem like something you have to "resort" to, it will be what you will decide is the best decision for your life. If you do decide to persue surgery, then make the committment to follow the doctor's instructions, stick with a program that they provide for you, and if you can't make the changes in your life, you will not be sucessful with a band. I really hope you find something that works for you and will allow you to take the weight off and keep it off.

Losing weight is hard...Period. If it was easy everyone would be thin.

When you have a kitchen table full of Easter Baskets full of candy, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me."

You go, Hakuna.

It sounds like you may be dehydrated. Remember when you are on a liquid diet, keep yourself well HYDRATED. Because you are drinking all of your food, you may have a tendency not to want to drink additional water, but it is very important that you drink 64oz of water a day. The hot feeling may be a low-grade fever because of the lack of hydration.

I am lucky: we opted out of the family easter dinner this weekend. I am on day 8 of my liquid diet.

When your spouse asks you to go to the drive through and buy McDonalds, Tell yourself: "I am doing this for me." Feel free to post your own.

I know this is a tool but....

What it is supposed to do is force you to eat the portion size that you are really supposed to be eating. You will eat until you are full like you used to do, but it will take far less food to get you there. The thing that you have to be very careful with if you are like me (who eats well past the point where I feel satisfied) is that if you continue to eat (just because there is still food there) the food will come back up on you, and I have been told that it comes back suddenly and without warning. I would probably not go out to eat for quite some time while you get the hang of it as you don't want to have your food come back up on your plate in front of your dinner guests. Have that happen and you will look at portion size a whole lot differently. I am not trying to scare you, but just realize that you will have to look at food in a completely different way than you have ever before and for the rest of your life. -
Wow, Thank you for the response and the encouragement. Before visiting this site I was going to be happy if I lost just 50 pounds or so, but after seeing pictures like yours makes me believe that I actually can eventually get down to a "normal" weight. I am sure it won't be easy, but I really think it is possible now. I just started my two-week pre-surgery slimfast only diet so my weight loss begins today.

I am starting my two-week SlimFast only diet tomorrow. Last night I had a big dinner at a BBQ restaurant and I had a big burger for lunch with a few friends from work. I don't have anything planned for tonight. I am going to behave on my diet and not allow myself to cheat so I can start off on the right foot.

I will be banded April 16th by Dr. Kowalski, Philadelphia, PA. I will start an all-slimfast diet on April 2nd. Currently 310lbs. I have been gearing myself up for the diet gradually. I had been having the "last meal" thoughts and indulged in a few, but I am actually looking forward to starting the diet and giving my weight-loss a running start. I have also tried to experiment with shake recipies to male them a bit more palatable. Good luck all.
