Anyone Use Lortab Liquid For Post-Op Pain?
ItsGottaGo! replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone! I called Walgreens here and the price was around 23.00, so not too bad. I was just curious how much, I know some of these medications are outrageous. My dr. also prescribed Prevacid SoluTabs (they dissolve in the mouth) and I know they are expensive, as I have taken the capsule form for many years. -
Could you have succeeded without the band?
ItsGottaGo! replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you so much for asking the question. I am due to be banded on Tuesday and of course have been asking myself the same things since yesterday. But....I say DITTO to all the answers that everyone has given so far, and when I focus on that, all the past diets and then the regaining for the past 15 years, I know I won't be jumping off the operating table and running come Tuesday. I wish you the best of luck with your decision. For me, it is the hope that I can finally take the weight off, (the highest that I have ever been) and KEEP it off once and for all. -
Mallorie, I have heard that that bubble of air that won't come up is pretty normal. I am sorry you are feeling nauseous. I hate feeling nauseous, it's the worst. I hope if passes soon. I think it if fairly common though, unfortunately, and expect it to happen to me. Hang in there!!! Breathe!

For VG 10 cc Bandsters ONLY
ItsGottaGo! replied to BeacheeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was told today that I am getting the VG band (10cc) on Tuesday. It is the ONLY size band my surgeon uses, which surprised me. He said it is better and he has had no problems with it, it can be adjusted more than the smaller ones. I tried to explain what I had heard about the other size bands, but it is the only one he uses, so I have to go with it. My dr. has a very good reputation and I trust him, so I will just have to see how it goes. I will get a fill 4 - 5 weeks out and I am hoping he gives me an aggressive first fill, I forgot to ask him, but I believe someone else said he is pretty aggressive with the fills, maybe because he only uses the 10cc band. He said I should only need 3 fills in the first year. Too bad my insurance, Medicare, only pays for 1. -
Congratulations James A. and MCW, I'll be joining you both next week! Keep us posted on your journey.

I met with my surgeon today, 6 days before my surgery date! I found out that I am getting a Vanguard Band (10cc one). I had asked him if they decide the size after looking at my stomach while operating, but he said no, they give everyone the large one. I was a little surprised, but oh, well. He said it is better to adjust, can hold more fills. If I didn't trust him so much, I would think it was strange because I heard that everyone get's a different size depending on the size of the stomach. This is our month everyone!:clap2:

Can anyone tell me how it could be that I have been doing this clear liquid only pre-op diet for 5 full days and have not lost a single ounce! I am so afraid that this is what is going to happen to me after being banded as well. Why won't my body let go of this fat!? I know it has only been 5 days, but not one ounce gone. What is wrong with my body? Even if I would have been eating food, I would have still been the same weight, so why am I going through this suffering? I even weighed myself before TOM came and now TOM is gone and I am still the same, I don't get it. Will I lose weight with my band or am I in for more of this. I am so annoyed right now, this liquid phase is not easy, at least if I would have dropped a pound I would see some results and feel better about it. GRRRRRRRR:hungry: :faint: :think :cry :drum: :)

Thanks everyone, you are all so kind. Jack, my bowel movements have changed somewhat. I say somewhat because I would "normally" go 3 times in the a.m. from the time of wakening until about noon. Since the liquid, I have only gone once each a.m., most of the days, with the exception of two days, it was normal texture. Yesterday it was liquididy (if that is even a word). Aren't you glad you asked? LOL!

Thanks. I haven't seen those brands in my travels, but I haven't looked in the health food stores either, so I will check them out tomorrow.

Thanks Bettina. Can you recommend some soy drinks? I like almost all of the protein shakes, doesn't matter if it's soy, slim fast, fiber, anything really. I used to drink them when I was working out years ago, so I'm used to the taste. I grabbed the Whey because I saw them in Costco in large bags and bought them, because I knew they tasted good. Those nutrition classes were a great idea to help you and your daughter. My daughter is only 5 right now, I'm hoping to be able to guide her down the road as well.

I just packed up the other two packages of muscle milk and am returning it immediately!!
-
Hi Bettina. My muscle milk container (premixed) says 230 calories and 11 grams of carbs. It is high in fat though, so I usually only have 1 a day. I mix my Whey with skim milk. So here I am, stupid me, getting fat and bulking up all the while starving. Shoot me now.

Hi Bettina. I'm doing 3 protein shakes a day, using Sport Pharma Whey and Muscle Milk, sf jello, sf ice pops, 1 boullion cube a day with water, coffee with skim milk, artificial sweetner, diet snapple, that it. I haven't cheated once. I would think there was something wrong with it, except when I put my daughter on it, her correct weight came up.

Thanks BJean. My band date is September 12th. I felt like throwing the scale through a window this morning. I am so aggravated! I didn't cheat once, not once. I don't mean to sound like a baby, but it's so disappointing, I thought I would see some loss, and the usual, nothing!

I have been on a designer shoe binge! I got some great deals on clearance and went high heel crazy! I haven't been able to wear heels since I put on all this weight 5 years ago and have been stuck in birkenstocks all this time. I'm jonesing to wear a nice pair of shoes, so I'm all ready when the time comes and I'm never going to take them off!! ENJOY your purchases.

pre op diet help!!!DRINKING..gulp gulp!
ItsGottaGo! replied to kimmason's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Katiegirl, I am on day 5 of a 2-week, CLEAR liquid ONLY pre-op diet and it is for the birds! There are very few options and I am getting sick of them. I hate this taste in my mouth too, I want something to chew! I hate to complain, but around this time of the day, it starts to get on my nerves. Good luck to you! -
Thanks Swanny and everyone. Yesterday, I was a collossal grouch! Today I am feeling better. I hate Rollercoasters! Day 5 of th liquid starts today, I'm having my coffee now and taking my daughter ice skating today for the first time (for her). We're almost there!!!!

Yes, I LOVE V8, but it wasn't on my list. I just don't think it is considered a clear liquid and neither is the SF Pudding or yogurt, I would kill for some of that. I meet with the surgeon on Wed. and I am going to ask him exactly what I can eat. I will make a call in to the nutritionist on Monday to see about the V8. I certainly would be a good change. Are we talking about the Vegetable V8 or the new fruit flavors they have out?? I can see the fruit flavors being a clear liquid, but not the vegetable. I like the veggie one.:hungry:

Thanks. Today I am feeling very deprived and very very hungry and most of all I am in the foulest mood I could possibly be in! I guess I don't know what to do with myself, it's a rainy, hot, muggy Florida day and TOM arrived. I wish I could just take a pill and sleep these next 10 days away! UGH! Two weeks is torture for a liquid diet and then another 2 weeks post-surgery on top of it. Is there anything anyone else knows that I can eat besides, bouillon cube, sf ice pops, sf jello, sf drinks and protein shakes???? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

My favorites are Myoplex Lite Vanilla Creme, Sport Pharma Whey Chocolate and Muscle Milk either chocolate or vanilla. They are all very good, IMO! Today starts day 4 of my pre-op liquid diet. Yesterday I sat at the dinner table for my Mom's birthday dinner and watched everyone eat all my favorite things, then they had cake. It didn't really bother me that much. Shocking. I had my chocolate muscle milk and I didn't cheat.

I, too, have problems with GERD for many years. I will let you all know what happens after I get my band. Hoping i am one of the lucky ones, and it disappears!

Dr. Perez or other S. Florida docs
ItsGottaGo! replied to DaniKLargo's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I do not know about Dr. Perez. But there are two Dr.'s at Cleveland Clinic in Weston who do the procedure, Dr. Rostenthal and Dr. Szomstein. They come highly recommended. I am having my procedure done by Dr. Szomstein. They require you to attend one of the seminars before meeting with the surgeon. You can call over there and ask one of the nurses, the number is 954-659-5239. Good luck!
