Lost One Pound In Two Months

This doesn't make sense to me. I struggle to understand starvation mode. If it really exists then we wouldn't have starving people in Africa and lots of people that are anorexic. Also if you were consuming so little then it would be really hard to find the energy to workout that hard and it does not sound as though you are struggling. My inclination would be to keep up the exercise but to watch what I was eating. You could inadvertently be eating more than you think as it is hard to correctly log every calorie. Also when you have lost a lot of weight sometimes your body needs time to catch up. Plateaus are normal.

  3. Generally if you can't drink you are too tight. But if the liquids are going down then I would probably wait a day or 2 to see how it goes. You may just be a little swollen and it may need time to go down. Take it easy, do not push it by trying to eat anything solid and see if it gets better.

    Milkshake

I don't think you have done any damage, I would relax and not worry. It is probably just coincidence that you felt like that after a milkshake. It maybe a bad choice but it is still liquid - it is not going to cause any damage. Even drinking through a straw isn't going to hurt. Yes it might make you swallow a bit more air than usual but that is it.
  5. Oats are generally fine just make them runnier than usual. Weetbix made with hot water works well too.
  6. Water doesn't help because it has nowhere to go. Think of the blockage as being like a blocked loo. What happens when you add more water? The stuff doesn't go down it sort of makes it all swirl around and come back up. Sorry if that image is gross but it was the easiest thing I could think of to explain it.

    1St Lap Band Fill.

You need time to adjust to the new way of eating. Giving you a fill that tight straight up would probably cause you problems. Drs do things in a certain way for a reason. You need to trust your Dr and that he knows what is best.
  8. If it is stuck the best way to get relief is to try to cough it up. I can't stand the pain and discomfort of waiting hoping that it will go down because most of the time it won't.

    Breads

I eat wholemeal bread and find that if it is toasted it is easier than if it is soft. I can do english muffins but usually only half. They are not particularly healthy so if you do want bread go for the grainy types - they are far more nutritious.
  10. In fact thinking about this again the fact they can't see a gastric pouch probably means that you don't have a slip. Which just proves that trying to interpret stuff that you know (me too ) nothing about is dangerous.
  11. I'm not a nurse or Dr but I would say relax - if it was serious then you wouldn't be waiting to see the Dr until Wed. The fact they have found reflux is clear. They can't see the pouch so maybe you have a slip. But remember a slip is not the end of the world, quite often they can be fixed. It says there is no obstruction to the flow of barium so that is good, at least everything is going through properly. The expected peristalsis means that the food is being pushed through the way it should be. It is not a good idea for Drs to give copies of reports to their patients as what happens is what is happening to you now. You read all this complicated sounding stuff in medical speak and you panic thinking there is something awful wrong. There is a lot to be said for the old fashioned way of doing things where reports were sent from Dr to Dr. Yes we may be entitled to them but it is probably better to only get the copy once we have seen the Dr and everything has been explained to us. Dr Google and his friends can be dangerous and can cause a person to worry more than they need to. Now relax and stop worrying until you have seen the Dr. Hope everything is fine, let us know.

    With This Band...

I have often used the wedding analogy in posts and I believe it is very true.
  13. Yes it would be nice to wake up from surgery thin but we all know that it is not going to happen. It took time to put on the weight and it takes time to lose it. I lost most of mine in the first 6 months. Having your band filled in surgery sounds wonderful until you hear some of the horror stories from people that have had that and had issues. Each fill makes a difference and even the band on its own makes a difference. The difference may feel as though it is only slight but if you are sticking to the guidelines and eating less and healthier than you were preop then you should still lose weight even if you don't have what you consider to be ideal restriction.I took Multivitamins initially but have not done for ages. Any kind of complete Multivitamin should be fine. I also do not do Protein shakes so that was not a problem for me. It is perfectly possible to get sufficient protein from a regular balanced diet. It won't be long and then you will be looking back thinking "wow I can't believe I have been banded for ______________ already" .
  14. I agree with Jean. Most likely scenario is a pulled stitch. And as she says you should call your Dr.
  15. For the past couple of days I have been unable to post to any thread. I type and hit post and then it just hangs. I have tried clearing my cache, using google chrome instead of safari but nothing helps! It is driving me mad. I hate being able to read stuff but not comment.

    Post Button Not Working???

    I think it's fixed now.

    Medications?

Most pills go down easily. Just take them with a big mouthful of water and you will be fine.
  18. A pain in the centre of the chest usually indicates that something is stuck or that you have eaten too much. What are you eating? At 2 weeks out I was on mushies but every Dr seems to have different postop requirements so you may be on something different. You need to make sure that you take small mouthfuls, chew well, wait between bites and do not overeat. Maybe you are eating foods that you should not be eating yet and these may be causing the pain. If you can give us examples then we can probably give you a better response.

    Looking For Help

Lots of people here will be more than happy to do that. So go ahead ask your questions.
  20. You don't need to get your band out if you get pregnant. However you may need your band to be partially or completely unfilled for part of the pregnancy. You will need to work closely with your Dr to ensure that your band is at the correct level for both you and baby to get optimum nutrition. But that is part of the beauty of the band, the fact that you have options. If it needs to be unfilled it can be whereas other types of WLS are not as adjustable.

    Severe Acid Reflux

I had my band at the same time and have also had some issues with acid reflux. It probably started about a month before Christmas. It wasn't every night but there were quite a few where I would wake up coughing, choking , with a sore throat.I got Nexium from my GP but it still happened. The strange thing was I was not too tight, if anything my band was loose. I could eat just about anything and was getting hungry sooner than I should have been. I was not eating late, was not eating spicy foods or other trigger foods and have no idea why it was happening. I had an issue a month ago where I got stuck on steak(because my band was so loose I thought I could eat anything) that culminated in me having most of my Fluid taken out. I was at 6ml and they took out 4ml. I have since had another 2ml put back in and am scheduled to see for Dr in 2 weeks time. I am starving and feel like I have no band which is horrible. However the reflux has all but gone. So that would seem as though the band was too tight but if that was the case then why was I able to eat so much, get hungry quickly etc. It doesn't make much sense to me. I have to say though I did have 1 episode about a week ago where I woke up choking and have no idea why. I cannot say that i ate any later that day or ate something different to usual that would have been a trigger.

    Not Keeping Food Down

Maybe your band has tightened for some reason. Stress, dehydration, hormones? You should probably go and see your Dr so that he/she can check everything is OK.
  24. I was going to reply to this topic yesterday when it was first posted but at that point I was unable to reply to any threads. My thoughts on what I was going to post at the time were:- That it is wonderful that the OP had a made a decision about WLS that suited her. That she must be visiting and reading a different sleeve forum to the one I read. When I read stuff on that forum yes there are a lot of happy people BUT there are also a heck of a lot of people that have had complications, especially leaks. This is in a very small group of people. There are a number of people that have had serious life threatening complications which seems to be very rare on this band forum. There are also a number of people that are struggling with issues such as hunger, food intolerances etc. And I think that the majority of sleevers have to take an acid reducer as a matter of routine because the incidence of reflux especially initially is very high. I think what this proves is that a person gets out of something what they want. The OP is looking for confirmation that her choice to have a slleve is the correct one so she reads the sleeve board and sees a positive message. I don't want a sleeve unless I have no choice, to me having so much of your stomach removed is scary so when I read the forum I focus more on the negative. I am sure neither is right nor wrong. However this issue has of course become very contentious and understandably so. You have to question the motives of someone that comes onto the band board just to post about how much better the sleeve is. And for some reason people that have decided to get the sleeve do this all the time. One wonders what sort of reaction we would get over on the sleeve board if we did the same thing. I am sure it would not go down well.

    I Have A Golden Egg

And so you should. Having a band doesn't mean depriving yourself for the rest of your life. It is about better control and choices. A little bit of what you fancy does you good and helps you to stay on track. ENJOY
