If You Have To Vomit, Do You Lose Your Calories?
elcee replied to show1980's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you do vomit you don't generally feel like eating again afterwards anyway. I would count the calories as though they were eaten and if that means you end up with a slight deficit and it causes a little extra weight loss great. Just don't get into the habit of making yourself vomit, it is dysfunctional behaviour and can lead to all sorts of unwanted and expensive complications. -
No Food For Two Weeks After Surgery?
elcee replied to akurre12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All perfectly normal. The standard here in Aus is 2 weeks liquid plus a few low carb veggies for the 2 weeks preop. Then 1 day clear liquids post op, followed by 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks mushy and then 2 weeks soft before finally going back to normal foods. Its a PITA and at the time it's hard but you can do it , the same as the rest of us did. And although we might like to think the diet is designed purely to torture us it's not, it's is designed to maximise the healing process and to allow the band to settle into place. -
Good to see that others also thought this was strange for a 1st or 2nd post. I was going to say something but thought that for once in my life I should just be sympathetic and tactful instead.

Very sad, sorry. but Where did this happen? It sounds like there were a lot of things that could have been done that would have averted this tragedy.

Hi Elfie - nice to see you posting. Didn't realise you still had issues even sine your band had been removed, that sucks

Port Infection/lapband Infection/band Removal
elcee replied to greeneyezgottiii's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Penn. Long time since we have seen you here. Sorry that you have had so many issues. Just a note though ,adhesions are a common result of any surgery - they are not a sign that your body is rejecting a foreign body. -
Toast does generally go down easier as do grainy breads. Also if you try to eat a whole roll you will probably have a problem but if you mix it up with other food then it makes it harder to form that ball. So a small bite of bread with healthy toppings on as in an open sandwich might be easier to eat .

chocolate, crisps, nuts, crackers, Soup............ the list goes on and on
-
I can eat all of the above

I've also seen that on the news. I am sure it does as little as all the other body contouring treatments that have come out throughout the years.

Questions To Ask On 1S Dr Post Op
elcee replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How much he charges. What his fill schedule is. What sort of preop/postop diet you will be on. What support his practice offers. How many bands has he done. -
Lap Band Vs Realize Band
elcee replied to Jlewis229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Realize band generally needs more fill in order to achieve restriction. The Realize port has teeth instead of being sutured in place. I don't know if those are advantages or disadvantages, I am sure they are much of a muchness. -
It feels great doesn't it

Clothes Are Loose But Scale Is Not Moving
elcee replied to Ashleigh Childress's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are a numbers person why not use a measuring tape. Your body is probably changing shape so if you can see the decrease in inches even if not in pounds then that should help you to stay motivated and not despondent. -
If you feel that my response was curt that was your interpretation. It was in no way meant like that and if you had done what you advised me to do and really read through you would have noticed that I was concerned about the OP and the fact that a flipped stomach would normally be a medical emergency. The reason I highlighted the response that I did is that this part does in fact sound like a normal slip. There are a lot of bandsters that are new that read these things and many would read that with total horror and it may in fact put some off being banded. The stomach pushing up through the band is a normal slip. It happens more commonly than we would like but it happens. Generally it is not a medical emergency. The stomach flipping below the band is not a common occurence and as the OP has pointed out it does not seem to be related to the band.To me it actually sounds a lot more serious than a slip but her Dr has told her it is not which is good news. I was concerned that she was not getting the care that she should have been getting in the circumstances as her Dr was away .

Generally not long, in a few days you will be wondering why you were making so much fuss! ( That was meant in the nicest possible way). In the meantime you may need an antihistamine. Phone your Dr and ask if it is OK for you to take one. Lots of people react to the dressings or the glue on them and you may be one of them.

I didn't even know they taped surgery. I could be wrong but I'm sure they don't here in Aus. It is probably more common in the USA as there seems to be more of a culture of suing over there!
-
I was also wondering what you mean by pain where the band is?
-
This sounds like a "normal" slip. The stomach beneath the band pushes up past the band and flips or mushrooms over the top.
-
Yep we felt it too, it was quite freaky. Amazing how FB went off yet it took the TV and internet news channels at least 30min to report anything. Glad you're OK.

That is funny and not something I would have thought of.

I hate fat pictures but sometimes they are part of an important memory. I do not want to delete the special memories so I cannot delete the photos. Hopefully there will be lots more memories with pics of me in looking slim and happy, these days I am more than happy to pose for the camera whereas before I used to hide as I hated how fat I had become. The next problem is wrinkles but at least it's easy to delete those before you upload them! Sad isn't it that we can never be 100% happy with ourselves.

What's Your Opinion...fill Or Not?
elcee replied to Jenn1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are losing slower but still losing then surely it shouldn't be a problem, unless you had the dress made too small and it doesn't fit you yet? I would be holding off until after the wedding and the honeymoon so that you can relax an enjoy them without fear of problems. -
There is lots missing. A lot of Dr's now tell us that the food passes through in a minute or 2 and does not stay in the pouch so that would seem to make nonsense out of the drinking rule. In truth I think they have lots of theories as to how the band works but no definitive answers.I find it really annoying. I much prefer facts to theories.

What Is The Problem Taking Byetta Shots After Lap-Band?
