  1. I have a number of friends that swear downing a carbonated drink quickly will have the same effect. I haven't tried it but it is worth keeping a can on standby for just in case.
  2. My thoughts are that you are already looking for ways around the instructions that you have been given, that is never good. The mushy stage is designed so that your digestive system does not have to churn to move food through. This assists with the healing process and allowing the band to settle into place.Chewing at this point can cause the band to move. Not enough that it would be noticed yet but enough that it could contribute to a slip further down the line. So best to follow those instructions even if they do not seem to make sense. If you really feel that you can't then speak to your Dr and see what he says.

LOL I just had to google him to see what he looks like. Not too bad if you like older, distinguished looking men.

    Post Fill Question

Of course you can enjoy the water park. Having a fill is like having blood drawn, a minor inconvenience.
  6. You generally know almost immediately although sometimes you realise afterwards that something is not sitting comfortably. It can last from minutes to hours depending on what it was and how badly stuck it is. In my experience pineapple juice does nothing. In fact if you try to pour liquid on it it just makes it worse. the best visula comparison(yucky but it gives the picture) is to think of a blocked toilet. You can add more Water by flushing it but it doesn't remove the blockage. The best way to minimise the episode is to try to cough it back up.Sometimes that works, often it doesn't.
  7. Preop I had to go on 2 protein shakes a day plus some non starchy veg for dinner and that was it.
  8. I often read threads in this forum where people are disappointed with their weight loss. People compare themselves to others and feel that their loss is not good enough or not fast enough. Apart from the fact that everyone is different and their body is different people often forget to look at things such as starting weight. Someone that weighs more will initially lose weight a lot more quickly than someone who does not weigh as much. As people get closer to their goal weight the loss slows down and it gets harder. So instead of focussing on the number of lbs or kgs or stones lost rather look at the percentage of your body weight that you have lost. For example a person weighing 400lb may drop 100lb very quickly. That is a fantastic achievement, but lets look at it another way they have lost 25% of their body weight. Another person may have "only" lost 60lb. Lets say their starting weight was 290lb - that is almost 21% - still amazing. So why not do the calculation and see how much you have really lost. It may make you feel heaps better. My stats. Starting weight 74kg or 163lb Lowest weight 50 kg or 110lb Total lost 24 kg or 53lb Percentage of weight lost 32%

    Melons

I think it is a problem not because it is fibrous but it is slippery or slimy. That means it is impossible to chew properly and you may inadvertently swallow a piece that is bigger than you should have. Other summer fruits such as peaches and nectarines can also cause the same kind of problems.

    Confused?!?

That was why I asked the question I did in my response. I knew that a few years back there was a big controversy over one of the Lap Band Drs and I couldn't find it for the benefit of the OP. I thought it might be Kuri but I wasn't sure. I then googled and found the report regarding the death but couldn't find anything else. I also heard that a lot of the negative threads were removed as certain Drs were paying a lot of money for advertising etc. I do not know if this is true. That is why it is important to research your potential Dr thoroughly before making a decision.

    Need Help

For some reason this is something that seems to occur for no apparent reason. You possibly need some fluid removed.
  12. Your preferences may change but generally you still love the person you married (unless there are other issues). I sometimes think tastes get stuck in a time warp - I love gorgeous younger men and my husband probably feels the same about women, but that doesn't mean we don't still love each other. He doesn't look as hot as when we first married but then neither do I. And what is to stop you fantasising about someone else anyway? That is harmless and if it keeps the relationship happy then why not.

    Restriction: Full Vs. Satisfied

Very true. How often do we hear about someone who has a fill and then goes out straight afterwards and has a big mac/pizza/sub whatever because they want to test their band.

Life Since I Was Banded :/

I am sure that the plication would make a huge difference in terms of pain etc. Unfortunately most of us only have bands so we cannot tell you if what you are feeling is normal or not. Speak to your surgeon and it might be an idea to go onto the SleevePlicationTalk.com board as well. People there should be able to give you a better idea of what recovery after the plication is like. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Please Help...to Unfill Again Or Not

Maybe your Dr should do some tests , to make sure your band hasn't slipped. If they are all fine then yes another unfill is definitely the way to go.

Life Since I Was Banded :/

That definitely isn't normal. What pain do you have and where? Hopefully the unfill will help. Often the people that have the most problems after surgery are those that had a fill at the time of surgery. the combination of postop swelling and fill is too much for a lot of people. Lack of energy is probably because you are on a completely different diet to what you are used to.Plus anaesthesia can cause you to feel awful for a while afterwards. Poor appetite - this I would say was a bonus not a problem. Enjoy it while you can as it does eventually come back.

    Laxatives

Laxatives do not help you lose weight. They are a quick/temporary fix at the very best . They can cause all sorts of problems and you can end up dependent on them. If you are constipated then it is OK to take them on a short term basis but other than that NO. Surely the reason you got a band was so that you could give up this kind of dysfunctional behaviour?
  18. You are probably in the Green Zone already. Maybe the problem is with what you expect the green zone to be. You are losing weight. Are you sticking to small portions of healthy food and are these keeping you satisfied for a number of hours? If yes then you probably are in the green zone. Maybe if you explain why you don't think you are there and what exactly you are expecting we could give some better feedback.

    Despetate Newbie

I would not recommend scrambled eggs. Lots of people have trouble with them.

    Despetate Newbie

This happens if you are not following the band rules i.e eating slowly, chewing well, waiting between bites etc I am still concerned that you are eating ahead of your schedule. At 8 days out you should be on liquids so you should not have this problem. The bruise on your wrist could be from where they held you when they moved you on and off the bed. I am shocked that your surgeon did not give you any info presurgery. This is not the norm and if it is true then it is very irresponsible. I think you should double check all your paperwork , maybe it is hidden in with the other stuff that they would have given you prior to surgery. Have you been online and searched for a WA support group? There are bound to be others there that have bands and it would be good for you to meet other people, I know that was one of the things that helped me most initially. There is/was an OZ band site. If you do a google search you should come up with something. I think the main thing ATM is to stop trying to eat - you need to go back to liquids. At 14 days out then you can generally start adding mushy foods such as avo, mashed veg, tuna etc but for now stick to things you can drink.

    5% of 1%?

I wish some of you guys had bands instead of sleeves. The band site seems to have been taken over . We not only have religious threads in the appropriate place we have them in the general band support section too. And the worst part is that I am the only person who doesn't think it's appropriate. Every time I read one of these so called inspirational posts I want to chuck. Do people really think that God cares how much they weigh and that he/she/it is going to help them lose weight? If he/she/it really did exist then I am sure he would have far more important things to worry about - world peace, starvation, overpopulation , disease etc. And if Believing in God is going to help make you successful then why was it necessary to get a band/sleeve to be able to do it.
