    Colonoscopy Prep?

You can still drink after you are banded. So long as you remember to breath in-between swallows you will be fine. I had to drink 2 glasses of horrible licorice flavoured goo before having a CT scan and that was just minutes after having a partial unfill under flouro as I had a major blockage. It tasted gross but it was easy enough to drink.

    Newbies: Please Read This!!!

Ok then I must have something seriously wrong with me. I have been banded 3 years and I still make mistakes. I can be cruising along fine and then BAM something gets stuck for no apparent reason. Yes it was probably too big a bite or not chewed well enough or whatever but it would have been no different than the ones I took the day, the week, the month before. It might all sound really easy but mistakes do still happen.
  3. Theoretically a lifetime but in practice some parts may need replacing before then. It is possible that the "balloon" part may become less effective from constantly be stretched, a bit like a balloon that has been blown up a couple of times. If that happens then not a major problem they can replace it or if a newer better surgery is available at that point you may choose to revise to that. Most prosthetics whether they be knees, hips or heart valves do seem to eventually need to be replaced.
  4. I got through it using Soup. Good wholesome, homemade Soups. All you have to do is cook your veggie of choice in some stock and then blend to a suitable consistency. Adding things like Beans, lentils, chickpeas ups the Protein content. You can add herbs and spices and give them as much or as little flavour as you want. Much tastier and more satisfying than those horrible sweet Protein shakes that taste nothing like food.
  5. Sounds like you are concerned about going to Mexico. If I was feeling the same way I think I would rethink my decision and find a DR that I felt comfortable with that was in my home country.

    Swollen And Painful Foot

Not sure what it is but I am pretty sure that it is not your band! Why did you have the doppler, what else has been going on?

    Question?

You should be fine swallowing them so long as you take them with plenty of water. However the "gas" that causes postop pain is not in your digestive system so the gas X do not work (some swear by them so this could be a placebo effect). The gas is gas that was pumped into your abdominal cavity to make it easier for the surgeon to work. The best thing for this pain is prescription pain meds and lots of walking.

    Question

Confused about staples. Where are your staples? Generally there is nothing to be removed after your surgery. Most Drs use dissolving stitches and/or glue

    Finally- Success!

Well done. Good luck with the unfill, I never found that one was necessary for maintenance. The longer you are banded the more it seems you can eat things that you couldn't before.

Anyone Not Tighter In The Am?

I have never experienced the tighter in the morning thing. If anything I have more problems at night(but that might be because dinner foods are harder to eat than breakfast foods). For breakfast I usually eat a poached egg on 1 slice of wholemeal toast. If i'm not in the mood for that then I will have oats or homemade muesli with greek yogurt.

    Coconut Water

I doubt it very much. I am sure that coconut water is just the latest fad.

    Sliming?

The reason for the slime is that your body is producing excess saliva to try to help the stuck item slide down. The reason this didn't happen when you were sick previously is because there was nothing stuck that your body needed to move. You were sick probably because of a stomach bug or something you ate or drank disagreed with you. You were being sick from your stomach now you are bringing it back up from the band, it hasn't reached your stomach yet, technically you are not really vomiting it up.
  17. That is very sad and I feel for you. However the fact that you still have it even though your band has been removed would seem to indicate that the band was not the cause. The fact it started once you were banded is probably coincidental. What tests have they done to try and ascertain the cause?
  18. Sounds to me like things are going well. Not sure what you are looking for. You are not hungry and you are losing weight - what exactly do you think is wrong?

Lost It All In The Wrong Places.....

Well I have skinny chicken legs, can't keep most jeans up because I have no butt but still have more than i would like around the middle. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to choose where the weight comes off.

    Dizziness And Passing Out

It could be all sorts of things. Low blood sugar, low Iron, low BP ........... As the others have said you need to see a Dr and get this checked. I am a bit concerned though with what you (are not) eating. If you say that you can only eat 3 -4 bites before you start sliming then you have an issue. I would say that either you are too tight or you are not following the guidelines properley. I know that many people strive to only be able to eat 3 - 4 bites post band and be full but that is not what you should be aiming for. It is not realistic and there is no way that you will be able to get the nutrition you need from such a small quantity of food.

    Possibly Dumb Question

No, I think you should be fine to walk that far just take it easy, maybe leave a little earlier than usual. Although if it was me I would drive. I spoke to my surgeon and he cleared me to drive the 3km to the school busstop 2 days after surgery.

    Any Vets? Sound Off!

And there I was thinking you were talking about animal Drs
  23. Justme, that was why I said MOST and not ALL!
  24. For most people that are stuck sips of anything just make it worse. When I was first banded corn used to give me lots of trouble, maybe even though you blended it , it had bits of skin which could be causing the irritation. You say it gave you heartburn, maybe that is the issue rather than being stuck. Maybe you ate too quickly or too much or for some reason it didn't agree with you. Have you tried taking a heartburn remedy?

    First Fill 5Cc!

Then that makes sense. Typically people with Realize bands need larger amounts of fill to feel restriction than those with Lapbands. Something to do with it being a low pressure band. I have even heard of people with the Realize band having more fill in than the band is actually designed to hold.
