Have You Ever Experienced...
elcee replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have but not for a while. I think it happens when food is struggling to go down. You may be a little tight or you may be eating too fast or too big a bite. -
Gas X won't work as the gas is not in the digestive system. The correct meds are the ones the Dr has prescribed which the OP is already taking.
-
If it happens again try having a sweet drink. If it is from low blood sugar that will help. It needs to be a proper sweet drink - some kind of fruit juice or something else with sugar in - artficially sweetened drinks won't help.
-
It could be low blood sugar, low iron, low potassium, low BP.......... the list goes on. As Mis says, you need to go to the Doc and get it checked out.

Could it be a grumbling appendix?

Now I'm from a different continent where we have a totally different view. I was not required to drink Protein shakes post op. Soups were one of the recommended foods and to me they made a huge difference. They tasted like real food and were satisfying which sweet , Protein Shakes weren't. I made lots of different veggie soups and added herbs and spices to taste. I also added different types of Beans, lentils etc for extra protein. All you have to do once the veggies are cooked are blend until liquid. You do not have to focus on protein in the post op stages - there are other ways of doing it which are just as successful.

Left Shoulder And Arm Pain After Eating!
elcee replied to Beth A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are a number of people that do have issues with shoulder pain post band. Look it up on the forum and you should find lots of threads that should help to give you a better understanding of how and why the pain occurs. -
Most Dr's recommend that you eat your calories rather than drinking them . Smoothies are generally very high in calories and not very satisfying .

Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts
elcee replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat a poached egg on a slice of wholemeal toast(done that way the egg does not get stuck) or a bowl of oats or homemade muesli with greek yogurt. If I'm in a rush and have an up and go then like you I find I am hungry and looking for real food an hour or so later. For me drinking my meals is not an option. -
I have a friend with a band that swears by her vibragym. She got it because of muscle/joint issues after a pregnancy . Apparently it is really good for core strength etc.

Anyone Know How I Can Contact A Site Administrator?
elcee replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a report button on each post. You can use that. It is normally used to report something objectionable but it might be an option. Alternatively you can start a thread in the suggestions forum but obviously that wouldn't be an option in this case. -
I believe that any weight gain through menopause is due to bad eating habits. I may or may not be menopausal. I had a hysterectomy last year but I still have my ovary(only one) and I am not sure if it is functioning or not. I get the occasional hot flush but far more cold flushes. I have no idea what a libido is , I may have had one once but that was a long time ago. I used to have a brilliant memory , I could watch the first 5 seconds of a TV show and remember the whole thing, these days I know I've seen it before but it comes back to me slowly. I don't think I'm moody but my kids might beg to differ. I have been getting quite bad palpitations - I have just been for blood tests to try to find the cause so I'm not sure if I can blame those on menopause yet or not. I have gained a couple of kgs since the beginning of the year. Is that because of menopause? Well it would be nice if I could blame that but realistically I think it is because I am eating more junk. I haven't been working much so I'm at home bored and surrounded by temptation. I think what you need to do is be honest with yourself. Make a note of what you are eating. You can use a site like my fitness pal or just write it down or even take photo's. You will probably be surprised. It is quite likely that odd Snacks have crept in here or there and the calories soon add up. Good luck, hope you get back on track soon. I need someone to kick my a@@e and get me back on track.

Mine were supposed to be at 3 weekly intervals but of course when I tried to book the Dr's were too full and I had to wait longer.

Food Getting Stuck In My Pouch, Ouch!!!
elcee replied to blushntexn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope that you haven't caused a slip. Throwing up, especially so soon after surgery , can cause problems. It might be worth calling your Dr to see if he wants to check that everything is still in place. -
Me too!

If you aren't hungry don't eat. The books and info that I got all state that 3 meals a day or less or fine. Who came up with the 3 meals per day thing anyway? Yes it probably suits some people but I don't believe it should be a 1 size suits all thing. Eat when you are hungry - not when the clock says you should.
-
Make your own. Just boil some veggies in some stock and then blend until you hit the desired consistency. You can add herbs and spices to taste. If you want extra Protein try adding Beans or lentils or chickpeas etc Although the gas may be something you just need to get used to. Most bandsters find they burp and/or fart a lot more than they did preband

Internal Stitch Coming Out Of Incision?
elcee replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The same thing happened to me after my hysterectomy. I didn't pull it, I just cut it as close to the skin as possible. -
I completely agree - it drives me insane.

I'll be happy when they do actually figure things out and all the Dr's start singing from the same song sheet. There is way too much variance and confusion out there. In the meantime we should all stick to listening to our own Dr, if we are not happy we something they tell us then query it with them. And we should all strive to find what works for us as an individual. e.g I know I'm not going to time the wait between bites. But I do wait until the bite I have just eaten feels comfortable. Sometimes that might take a minute, sometimes it takes longer and I'm sure sometimes it takes less.

My Dr has never had a problem with carbonation, I am allowed it so long as it doesn't cause me discomfort. But a low cal soft drink is not necessarily carbonated - it could be cordial, or ice tea or crystal light or something similar.

How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
elcee replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well what would you expect from a ffp, it's not like I'm a model or anything. -
It's not true. Try having an unfill for a period of time and see how quickly your hunger comes back. After we have been banded for a while we may think that we have it all down pat but we forget that the band is helping to control our hunger. Instead of having your band removed if you think you can cope without it have a complete unfill and see if you manage to maintain your weight loss, at least it is still there to be refilled when you find you can't. I can never understand why people think like this. If it was something like a pacemaker we wouldn't be asking if we could have it removed once the heart rate returned to normal would we? Obesity is a disease and it is one that needs a permanent solution.
