I still don't know how people eat a cup of food. For instance I might have a poached egg on toast for Breakfast. How on earth does one equate that back to cups? I eyeball what I eat based on recommendations by my surgeon and nutritionist. So a small plate with lots of veg, a small portion of carb and some Protein. To me that is easier to live with , especially when out, than trying to work out if it is a cup or more.

Soooo... Who's Losing Weight Without Exercising?
elcee replied to Bracchus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can lose weight eating crap, wasn't there some guy who just ate twinkies for a month or something and he lost.Obviously you won't be very healthy at the end of it but a calorie is a calorie. If you choose to eat good calories then you will be healthier than if you eat bad ones but for losing weight it doesn't really matter if you eat 1000 calories worth of raw carrots or 1000 calories worth of chocolate. -
Glad that you got it fixed quickly. Being too tight or stuck overnight is no fun. @ heather - couldn't ER do the unfill ? It seems odd that you went there and now have to go to your Dr's as well.

Agreed , the band somehow makes you more gassy. Sometimes it comes out of the top and sometimes it comes out of the bottom. It can be really annoying but there isn't really a lot that can be done about it.

Soooo... Who's Losing Weight Without Exercising?
elcee replied to Bracchus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost my weight with minimal exercise. I went to a Bollywood class once a week and for a while I did a bellydancing class but that was it. I don't think it was enough exercise to make a difference, I was obviously eating less than I was expending and that is why I lost. -

What happened beforehand? Did you get something stuck? Did you go to bed too soon after eating? Glad that you are going straight to the Dr, hopefully a partial will be all that is needed. unfill

You should not wear Spanx or other control wear daily as daily wear can cause health issues. Save it for when you have a special occasion and want to look extra good. Be thankful that we have progressed (theoretically) since Victorian times and we are not expected to be tightly laced into our underwear before we are fit to be seen in public.

My Dr says the same as Jen_1381s. That carbonation is fine if it doesn't cause you discomfort. I drink a light beer or ginger beer occasionally. I drink champagne - please don't tell me that's not good for me, I won't believe you.I drink soda Water with a dash of lime in summer as it is really refreshing etc etc I do not drink it in excess and I do not have issues. The supposed rule though about not drinking it is so entrenched that some people really believe that soda will cause everything from slips, to AIDS to the fall of Babylon! As with most things I believe that moderation is the key.

Exactly. I have a noisy stomach post band too. Sometimes in the middle of the night it is loud enough to wake the dead!

Not fun is it?

There are reasons that your Dr has given you this diet to follow. It is about healing, not punishment. If you feel that you cannot stick to it the CALL YOUR DR and ask what else you can add to your diet to get you through it. Eating things that are not on the list your Dr gave you is setting you up for failure and worse - possible future problems such as a slip.

I've always been allergic to exercise. I get hot, sweaty, can't breath properly, sometimes it causes a rash...............

We all hated the liquid diet. The good news is it is not forever even if it feels like it is. Just keep the end goal in sight.

Wanna Eat/taste Something

Make your own soups. Then you can put the herbs and spices that you want in them and they will probably be a lot healthier and more satisfying than the shop bought ones. -
Banded October 26-12 What Can I Eat!
elcee replied to keda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What stage are you on? What do your Dr's guidelines say? I would think it should be soft stuff like mashed veg, stewed fruit, cottage cheese etc but without knowing what your Dr has instructed it is hard to give advice. -
All the online stuff is fairly self explanatory. I think the 1st day or 2 is liquids, then the next day is mushies, then soft protein then firm protein or something like that.
-
Yep, it doesn't do anything to stop you eating cake and chocolate. I know as I went to High Tea for a friends Birthday yesterday and ate far too much. On the positive side though at least I didn't come home and eat dinner as well!

This is 1 area where I think it is far better to receive than to give!

Try remembering what you have just done to yourself and why. You have had major surgery. Presumably you did that to lose weight and improve your health. Think what a waste it will have been if you don't take control.

I know how you feel. Over time it becomes easier and easier to eat things that initially were difficult and also motivation levels are not so high. I also need to get back on track. -
Tummy Grumbles But I Feel Full
elcee replied to mazzak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will probably find that your stomach talks a lot. Mine can't shut up! A noisy stomach does not mean that you are hungry which is something a lot of people seem to find hard to get their heads around. Sometimes mine is so loud that I swear it could wake the dead. -
I think you have to focus on quality rather than quantity. We went to a very upmarket restaurant for lunch on Saturday for my sons 18th. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to eat my moneys worth but I also knew that as we would be there for a couple of hours I would be able to eat far more than I should. I have had my band for 3 years so unfortunately I now know how to eat around it! In the early stages when you are focusing on losing you definitely need to try to pick places that are going to work for you.If faced with a buffet walk around first and look at the food. Think about your choices and pick things that are special and will satisfy you. For instance on Saturday I ignored the roasts as i can make those at home myself and concentrated instead on the wonderful fresh sashimi and prawns.

Well done.
