And this is exactly the reason I chose not to share with anyone until a long time afterwards. Too many people that have no idea but think that they do. -
Can I color my hair?
elcee replied to Lovingmyselfforever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I would probably wait until a week or so after surgery. It's not as though you will be looking good in the hospital and you might need the "pick me up" afterwards . -

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread

I dont buy prepared veg but as an example in Australia a 5 kg bag of potatoes costs approx $5, a small cauliflower probably costs about $4. -
Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread

Hey fluffy I have never said it’s my way or the highway. In fact I have been trying to show that there are varied regimes that work and that everyone is different. I think everyone should eat what works for them, that could be a diet of deep fried crickets and chocolate ants! -
How did you choose a goal weight?
elcee replied to PopsFury's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
BMI is a range. Models tend to be at the lower end or under the lower end. There are very few people that will look ill at the higher end of the range . My current weight is only just in the overweight range and I look and feel fat . I can’t imagine putting yourself through this and then settling for still overweight but everyone has different goals and ultimately each individual has to be happy with their choices. -

I love cauliflower as a rice or mashed potato substitute. Sadly it costs a lot more though. -

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread

I doubt that many could stick to it either. I posted it as an example of something that goes completely against what most of us think of as a healthy diet but in this instance it did turn out to be very successful. The problem with diets is that dieticians can't seem to figure out what constitutes a healthy diet and they change their minds more often than most of us change our underwear! Butter vs Marg Fat vs Sugar Hi or lo carb Hi or lo protein No more than 1 egg per week etc Interestingly one of the periods when the British were at their healthiest was during World War 2 when they had rationing. Items such as meat, butter, eggs and sugar were scarce and were rationed. Their diet consisted of lots of root vegetables, tinned meat, any game they could shoot, lard instead of butter etc. They ate mock banana ( parsnip) and other substitute foods One of the most famous recipes of the time was Woolton Pie -

There was a story a while back in Oz about a guy that had a lot of weight to lose. He decided to go on a potato diet. Was that healthy or unhealthy? Do you think he lost or gained? Kevin Smith / Silent Bob

Yes it is his own business unless he is representing some other weight loss programme. If he is a WW advocate and gets paid to promote them then full honesty would be required otherwise he is misrepresenting the programme and other people would be enticed to spend the money and not understand why they werent able to achieve the same level of success -

Yes but I am old and I don't watch those kind of movies ( I just googled him) well done to him for losing the weight. Not everyone that has a big weight loss has had surgery. The test for him as it is for all of us is not so much in the losing, it's in the maintaining -

Follow up to: I know this is long, but please read it. I need help! Guys this is the letter I'm sending along with the survey to my weight loss doctor. Please tell me what you think. Should I add or take anything out? Please let me know.
elcee replied to I AM NOT MY SIZE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is the post the letter? If it is I would get someone to help you rewrite it. It needs to be shorter, more to the point and it also needs to be set out in a way that is easier to read. You also need to consider what you are hoping to achieve with the letter. It is doubtful that anything will be done about it. Getting things off your chest may make you feel better in the short term but at some stage you may regret it. It does sound like your surgeon did not have the best “ bedside “ manner but I think the area in which there was the biggest failure was in the lack of education. It is perfectly possible to stretch a sleeve early on. If you google it you will get lots of results. There are also lots of tales of people that eat until they felt full rather than eating what they had been told to and that generally gives poor results. To me the most important weapon in this weight loss war is education. Do your research. Use google, talk to other people in person and on line. Follow your Doctors instructions. -
I don’t realise people actually used these products. Everybody’s **** stinks .one doesn’t generally walk into a public toilet expecting it to smell like a bed of roses

I learnt about those a long long time ago. I went to movies and filled a cup with the sugar free gummies thinking it was better than eating the standard ones. They weren’t in a packet and i don’t think there was any kind of warning on them, if there was I must have chosen to ignore it. Well a couple of hours later I thought I was going to die. The pain was incredible. That is one experience I never intend repeating. The lesson was well learnt.

Wondering how many Aussies we have in here as I suspect that guidelines here in Aus are different to in the USA. I was banded in June 2009 and I know at that stage food recommendations here were very different to in the US. I am now looking at revising to RNY. It would be nice to be able to compare experiences with other "locals". When I got my band I belonged to a local support group and that was great but the group no longer has regular meetings. Also most members seem to be struggling or have had their bands revised to a sleeve. So if you live in this vast land jump on and lets share

I think this can be a common problem. Often a person feels like they can eat more than they should. What should have been explained to you prior to surgery is that even if you feel like you can eat more DON'T, just eat the recommended portion. The body needs to get used to feeling satisfied rather than "full" or "stuffed" . It can take a while to recognise this new feeling. The danger is that by eating more the sleeved portion of the stomach can stretch and accomodate more. Hopefully you can find a new team that will help you and enable you to achieve success -
Who's Norm and why would you want to be him? I prefer being Norma or Sybil or whoever. This Norm bloke is very overrated.
