    800 Calories Per Day

3000 calories is one heck of a lot. What are you eating? An average woman needs to eat about 2000 calories per day to maintain, and 1500 calories to lose one pound of weight per week. An average man needs 2500 calories to maintain, and 2000 to lose one pound of weight per week.Jul 6, 2018

    Super Upset about a Meatball!

Surely all you need to make a meatball is ground beef/pork/chicken or whatever , some herbs and spices for flavour and an egg to bind the mixture.

    I don’t dump

I think dumping may be a mixed blessing. If you get it it may help to keep you on the straight and narrow but I have read that even for those that do dump it often goes away after about 18 months.

    Interpreting men

That may help a person live a long life but imagine how boring it would be. I would rather live a shorter life with a wonderful husband than a long one without

    Puking: Post-Op vs. Pre-Op

I haven’t vomited properly for the last 9 years. I have however spent far too much time in bathrooms ( my own, friends, restaurants) regurgitating! With a band you don’t throw up the way you do preband because the food is coming from on top of your band and is mixed with saliva not bile. It’s not fun but it’s nowhere near as horrible as proper vomiting. My worst experience was 1 night when I had a few drinks too many. Woke up feeling awful. In the preband days I would have vomited to feel better, with the band that wasn’t an option. Needless to say I have avoided getting into that situation again. My band comes out in Jan and I’m revising to RNY so it will be interesting to see how this changes things
  12. I have a heap of friends that are sleeved. Most of them lost a lot of weight initially. About 3 of those are still at goal or close. A number of them have regained a bit. I have 1 friend that lost hardly anything and is now fatter than she was before she got it, her husband who lost a heap has now also regained a lot. Those friends that were band to sleeve don’t seem to have achieved the low weight goals they wanted to but have not regained to preband weight so they are happy. You will get out what you put in. If you expect it to be a miracle solution it isn’t.

    Post Op

The only thing I can think of is if it was faulty before they inserted it
  14. This thread has had me googling pics of "hot" bariatric surgeons!
  15. Having a popsicle would be the same as having a drink. You are supposed to wait anywhere between 30 - 60 min after eating before drinking. You were probably full and there was no space in the pouch for the liquid to go hence the discomfort and burping

    Sliders and triggers

Slider foods are foods that turn to mush or liquid in your mouth:- Crackers Chips Popcorn candy Chocolate Cake Highly processed foods etc They are high calorie, easy to overeat and have no effect on your hunger levels. Non sliders are foods that are still relatively solid when they get to your stomach Meat, fish, chicken, vegetables They are full of nutrients and fill you up.

    No change after multiple fills?

What is restriction? Or what is it that people believe restriction to be? Restriction with a band should be about eating smaller portions of healthy food and feeling satisfied afterwards . This can be a hard concept to understand. It is not about feeling full like preband. It is not about the band stopping you eating unhealthy fattening foods because conversely the more fills you have and the tighter your band gets the easier it becomes to choose those unhealthy , non satisfying foods(sliders). When I got banded back in 2009 everyone used to talk about the sweet spot. That magical point where you would be eating tiny portions of healthy food , losing weight and never be hungry. Well that is like unicorns, it's nice to dream about but it doesn't exist. Unfortunately the reality with the band is not the same as the marketing. I was told that I wouldn't be hungry, may only want 2 meals a day, would get sick if I ate too much etc. Well I have never only wanted 2 meals a day and would still wake up hungry . As for the throwing up if you eat too much it's more likely to be throwing up if you eat 1 bite of something that today your band decides it doesnt like that it was quite happy with yesterday. BUT ITS NOT ALL NEGATIVE. I lost all my excess weight plus more within 6 months of getting my band with very little really effort on my part. I didn't focus on protein first as in Aus that wasn't a thing. I just tried to eat small portions of healthy foods. Poached egg on toast was a good breakfast option although most days I could only manage half a slice. My go to food when I wanted something quick and easy was untoasted muesli with greek yogurt - that was a great substitute for lunch or dinner. So don't go chasing rainbows. Work with your band and don't have it too tight. Realise that the sensations that you get now are your new normal and that the fullness or lack of hunger may be different to what you are expecting them to be. And don't forget weight loss isn't a race. Slow and steady loss is fine.
  18. I have only had 1 and the prep was horrific. I really felt as though my skin was burnt from all the acidic liquid that was coming out. If I ever have to do another one I will research some kind of numbing agent or really effective barrier cream.

    Second thoughts!

Her telling you not to do it sounds pretty unprofessional to me. I wonder how many other people she has put off having surgery.
  20. Yep, I have often wondered how my body is able to produce that much saliva, especially when at the time it was impossible to drink
