    What to do when dumping?

I think most people know what they are supposed to do to avoid it but noone is perfect and slipups happen. The issue is how to resolve it when it happens. Low blood sugar is dangerous whether it is caused by being diabetic or as a result of surgery. It makes sense that something is needed to lift the sugar levels immediately eg orange juice and then food needs to be eaten to keep the levels stable. Generally those would be foods containing complex carbs, fiber etc.
  4. of course you can eat them. When you are sick you do what you need to do to get better, you don’t worry about the diet.
  5. For those that have lost a lot of weight and are no longer spring chickens I wondering how your necks and faces “ pull up”. I have always had a round face, when I had my band and lost weight it was a lot slimmer and I ended up with a small wattle. Now that I have regained weight the place that it bothers me most is in my face. I have multiple chins and look like the turkey that got away. Looking at some of the christmas photos is so depressing. I doubt that I will be able to afford a face or neck lift, if I want one of those hubby will probably make me go back out to work. So if you are over 45 and have lost weight and not ended up with a large wattle please post pics or messages to give me some hope that maybe it won’t be too bad
  6. Spinach is really healthy. I would keep eating it, it’s not ALL about protein
  7. I need to do this in the he next couple of weeks

Lap band January 2019 surgery date

You are on a better position than those of us that got banded in the last 10 years as there is so much more info available. If this info had been available to me when I got my band I wouldn't have done it.The myth we were sold doesn't match the reality. I didnt realise that you will get sick if you eat too much actually meant take one bite of a wrong albeit healthy food and you will be spending hours trying to chuck whilst in pain and still hungry. Or that unhealthy stuff would be far easier to est than the healthy stuff. But you be fair I probably wasn't emotionally ready for something like RNY back then so from that point of view it was a good gateway choice

    Turkey Necks

I wish someone would tell my hubby that photo angle is everything. The Christmas day shots he took are awful and he gets annoyed with me for being upset. The other photos he takes are great but the ones of me horrible. If he would just take them from higher up it would be an improvement and considering how short I am it shouldn’t be that difficult

You now look like a granddaughter and not a grandma. Stunning

    Turkey Necks

I hope it is forgiving.Bat wings aka tuck shop arms don’t worry me too much, they are easy to cover up. Neck not so much. I might have to try the duct tape solution that someone shared on facebook recently!
  12. The people that annoy me are the ones that think losing weight should be easy but they can’t kick their cigarette habit. And they don’t see the irony!

    "Other " support sites

This is a rant and a rave. Firstly I would like to say that I have always found the people here to be in the most part helpful and supportive. The same cannot be said for all other sites. Some of the sanctimonious BS from some peeps is unreal. Example Wow reading this thread is depressing. So many people saying never to drink alcohol again. Absolutes ( never )are very hard to accept. I got my band 9 years ago and was never told I had to give up alcohol. I enjoy a glass or 2 of wine a couple of times a week. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't become an alcoholic! Now looking at revising to RNY so I understand that I am going to have to give that up, at least for the foreseeable future but I would hate to think that I could NEVER have a glass of wine again. alcohol is pure sugar. The body uses that pure sugar to function instead of burning your stored fat for energy. Maybe ifvyou had not used alcohol you would be at goal weight and not looking for a revision. You are a perfect example of the truth of what those who are saying about alcohol use are saying. Alcoholics and drug abusers in recovery use the never absolute every day. They have to, no other choice. Not using absolutes, like never is often just an excuse.
  14. Not sure but I think the UK has the same or similar products to Aus. So what you should be looking for is paracetamol - possibly panadol or panado but there would be lots of generics too. Avoid the ibuprofen

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

It’s 3 weeks today until my op. I’m not really nervous yet, more impatient. I need to get rid of this fat suit and back into some decent clothes. I look at photos and think that can’t be me, surely I don’t look that bad and wonder how and when it happened. I don’t have to do a preop liquid diet I have just been told to stick with clean eating.I shall start that in Jan. Let’s hope these next 3 weeks go really quickly

    Full liquids agaiiinnnn.

That sucks. Hope they get to the bottom of this soon and sort it all out.
  17. I have only just seen this thread and I have to confess I haven’t read all the responses so if I have missed something I apologise. I have seen a few people post lately that seem to have had no idea of what they should be doing pre or post op. They don’t seem to have had any kind of process to follow and there doesn’t seem to be a support team for when things go wrong. As far as I can see they are people that have chosen Medical Tourism. It seems as though for the providers it is all about making money with zero care or responsibility. No idea what sort of screening process they use but it does seem to leave a lot to be desired. I feel sorry for those that have chosen this route not being properly prepared and then have to try and muddle their way through it afterwards
  18. Today is my 9th and final Christmas with a band. I loved what the band did for me initially but over time it lost its effectiveness. It certainly doesn’t assist or encourage healthy eating but you don’t really realise how disordered your eating is as it becomes your new norm. For breakfast I ate a small croissant with honey and half a pain au chocolate and both went down easily. I did start by eating 1 strawberry and a small slice of pineapple but gave up on those as it was just too difficult and uncomfortable. Im hoping that after RNY I will be able to eat more of the healthy foods that I should be eating.

Surgery coming up, and I'm terrified.

The only way to get through it is to keep the end goal in sight. Also the post op diet isn’t harder than preop,it’s easier. I found the 2 week preop diet much much harder than post op BUT I also managed to stick with it which I had never done before. Prior to WLS half a day on a liquid diet and I would have given up. If there is a risk of clots they will give you blood thinners and specialist stockings, so just tell them about your fears and you will be fine. Hair loss is a lot less common in those that get in all their recommended protein and vitamins. And if your hair does thin a bit it grows back afterwards. I have never heard of anyone ending up bald because of surgery. All the best, I am sure you will do fine
  21. Complications from obesity include High blood pressure Increased risk of stroke and heart attack Diabetes Increased risk of cancer Joint issues Back problems Just to name a few.
  22. Reversals are only done under extreme circumstances for reasons of medical necessity. When was your surgery. Anaesthesia can cause a person to have all sorts of emotional swings. Once you start healing and losing you will look back at this and laugh. Long term serious complications are far more rare than the complications from being obese. Take your vitamins, follow your drs recommendations, eat what you are supposed to and you will be fine.
  23. You need to get medical attention. Pain in the chest and a temp could be something more serious
  24. Have to follow this as I am doing LA, UK, Hong Kong 3 months after my op
