No "sugar-free" for me
elcee replied to allisonjrasmussen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found I really don't like most sugar free drinks anymore, they are either too sweet or too artificial tasting -
2 weeks off work. Will I be able to clean?
elcee replied to DelawareWoman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No vacuuming or anything else that uses that push pull movement for 2 months. Dusting, wiping sides etc is fine. You don’t want to do anything that impedes your healing . If you have a partner make the most of it and let them know you are not allowed to do it so they will have to help -
Mine was croaky for a while

Average rate of weight loss for revision (band to bypass)
elcee replied to lspringman's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 4 weeks postop on Thursday and so far I have lost approx 6kg. That may sound slow but I had a lower starting weight, I only have approx another 4 - 6 to lose -
So many people with reflux ignore the advice and go with the sleeve. It seems to exacerbate it. There are many many people who then have to revise from sleeve to bypass. What is it about the bypass that scares you so much?

I had a very noisy stomach whilst I had my band. It used to sound as though there was an alien in there trying to get out

Went for my first postop app with my surgeon yesterday. He asked if I had tried chicken yet and I said no I didn't think I was allowed. He told me that at this point it is fine to eat foods as tolerated. That it is actually good for the healing process to eat solid foods that stretch everything slightly as this helps to prevent contraction, over tightness and eating problems . So dinner last night was roasted chicken (from the supermarket) and veg. It went down fine. This morning I ate a small bowl ( approx 120ml) muesli. That was fine as well. Loving my bypass!

SHOULD I TELL MY TRAINER ABOUT MY SURGERY?
elcee replied to OriginalGaPeach's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You don’t need the nutrition plan but you should let them know you have had abdominal surgery so that they don’t give you exercises that could cause issues before you are fully healed -
Any suggestions or advice to get me through this stage is greatly appreciated.
elcee replied to Ms. Johnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been allowed to have fruit since the mushy stage. Tinned or stewed and mashed up with yogurt or custard. I also have tinned peachs with my oats for breakfast. -
One of the main reasons is reflux. There is a high incidence of it with the sleeve, especially in revisions from band.

MGB V RNY weight loss
elcee replied to New&Improved's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you have a skilled surgeon you should go with RNY. The main advantage to the OMega Loop bypass seems to be that it is simpler and quicker surgery. If you have an experienced surgeon that shouldn’t be an issue. -
When did you stop using shakes?
elcee replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped them as soon as I started mushies. My dietician was satisfied that I am getting in approx 60g of protein per day which for someone my size is plenty. I was quite happy to stop as I really don’t like them -
Sounds like me, My stomach has always been my problem area and I struggle to lose it there.

Actually there is new evidence that shows staying on liquids too long may cause problems.

I find soft poached( slightly undercooked ) works best for me

That is awful that you haven’t been able to see one since your surgery

Hibernation Syndrome - explains depression & 3 week stalls
elcee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of people complain that they have a 3 week stall and lots of people seem to feel depressed and regret having had surgery. I think this is a great explanation as to why. One of the challenges some patients face after weight loss surgery is a condition described as the hibernation syndrome. This is a group of symptoms that include feeling fatigued, depressed and lack of motivation to do any physical activity. Patients often feel upset and become plagued by thoughts that the surgery was as mistake.. This can be quite alarming to patients recovering from the surgery and recognizing the signs assist in getting over this stage in recovery. Hibernation syndrome is common in the first few weeks after the surgery. It is caused by the low number of calories being consumed and the reduced activity associated with this time of healing. The body perceives that it is starving and triggers an evolutionary response that has helped humans survive famines. The main aim of the response is to slow us down to conserve energy and thus resulting in; tiredness, need for sleep, lack of motivation and depression. It is important to understand that these symptoms are normal and will pass with time. Most patients notice improvement in their symptoms around 4-6 weeks after the operation and the improvement is brought by increasing protein in the diet, taking the multivitamin tablets, increasing the metabolic rate with exercise and return to work and the encouragement patients get as they shed the extra weight. A supportive family member or friend is a great help during this time. -
I got told I could remove mine 11 days after surgery

Perfectly normal, i am sure everything will go well
