When do you eat your last meal?

Isn't the best time the day before you start your preop diet? As to what - I would say anything you fancy.

    Fast food

Maybe its because the meal you ate was fairly high in fat and your body isn't used to this anymore. Maybe the burger was "bad" Could be lots of things and it would probably be hard to pinpoint exactly what. Hopefully it clears up soon. If not then speak to your doc. In the meantime I wouldn't worry too much.
  3. This is the way my doc explained it. It is not from the gas that they pump into you - that is CO2 and apparently dissapates within 4 hours. But what he said happens is that before they close you up some air gets into the body and it is this that causes the pain. Using gas pills will not help for this kind of pain as it is a different type of gas - they will help for the gas in your stomach. You should have been given prescription painkillers after surgery to sort this out.I was given mine to bring home but was very lucky as I only had minimal pain for the first 2 days. If you haven't been given any pain killers phone your doc and see if he/she can give you some. You shouldn't need to suffer.

Do you have to "diet" to lose?

This sounds incredibly like my preop diet. Hopefully I can do as well as you afterwards

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I think it depends on the individual , not the age. I am 46 was done on tues and don't even feel as though I have had surgery. I had mild pain for the first 24 - 48 hours but nothing now(except period pains and thats altogether another matter, far worse than the op). Sorry if that's TMI! Was nauseous the first couple of days but soup seems to have solved that. I wake up not hungry which is great. Am slowly sipping an instant breakfast at the moment. Normally by now I would have eaten stacks and still be hungry. I don't think I am managing all the drinks as well as the food - it is just sooo much liquid.I find that I am satisfied at the moment but I do need the soup etc. I also find I am hungrier at the end of the day than the beginning. My homemade soup tastes so much better than the preop stuff. I am eating slowly but still worry a little that maybe I am eating faster than I am supposed to - it is difficult to judge. I am able to sleep on my side with no discomfort and can drive short distances without a problem. I have been lounging around the house lots doing nothing much as I don't want to push it. I was wondering if those of you that were done early this week have taken your dressings off already? I am supposed to take them off but am a bit nervous about it, especially the port one. Once you take them off do you leave them as they are or have you put a fresh dressing on?Just wondering what is best.
  6. Just your docs way of doing things. I'm Aussie too and my doc's plan is 3 meals no Snacks. Wish I had your plan. As I'm only 4 days post op haven't got that far yet but where I see myself being likely to struggle is between lunch and dinner. Breakfast to lunch should be OK as that's not such a long gap!
  7. I try to use one for shakes, yogurt drinks, fruit juice etc but I refuse to use one for soup!

    Newbie, banded on 6/1/09

I was done 2nd. Not really hungry yet. In the morning it takes quite a while to get to the point where I want to eat but have been having Protein Drink or yogurt drink as I know I need it. I am finding that later in the day I can eat a bit more but at this point the Soup and stuff is enough to satisfy me. A couple of times I have had the shakes so then I just drink fruit juice.
  9. I was given mine at discharge as well. It could come in useful . However at the moment the only person that knows about my surgery is my husband so I would have to decide if i wanted the others in the group I was with to know before deciding whether to use it or not!

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

I am on my 3rd day post op and at this stage have no desire to chew.I am even finding it hard to drink some of the liquids. Not because they are difficult to get down , there is no problem there, I'm just not really hungry yet. I can't even drink a full cup of tea and if you knew me then you would realise that is amazing as i am a complete and utter teapot. Just got my breakfast. Half a glass of drinking yogurt and so far all I have managed is two sips. The rest can wait until later.

    Banded 2 June - Melbourne

Yes tea and coffee are on my list too. Dietician is quite happy with those - not fizzy, high cal or anything like that. In fact I don't think i'm capable of giving up tea I'm a complete teapot! I always drink it with LF milk and no sugar so it can't be that bad. Nausea seems to have eased slightly tonight. Probably because I managed to get some Soup down. But you should hear the rumblings in my stomach - I swear they're so loud the people across the street can hear them!
  12. Hi everyone Well I am now banded. I had to go into Western Private Tuesday at 5pm. I had no idea what time my surgery was scheduled. I ended up being Dr Nottle's final patient for the day. I went into theatre at approx 9.15 - waiting around for so long was awful! I believe that all went well. I had a minimal amount of shoulder pain and some tenderness around the port when I came to so they gave me drugs and I was painfree the whole night. This didn't mean that i actually got any sleep though. What with being on a narrow bed, in an uncomfortable gown with some machine measuring my BP and then bleeping like crazy at me all night I don't think I managed to get more than about an hour. I didn't have any nausea the first night which was great but have it now. Yesterday morning my arms felt heavy and shaky which I think was due to low blood sugar so was given some apple juice. Wow that tasted good although when you try and drink more later it starts being very sickly as it is so sweet.I started to feel nauseous whilst still in the hospital so they gave me another drug via the IV. Can't say this has helped though. I still feel nauseous whenever I am in any position except for lying down. Left hospital at about 10.30 am yesterday and have been vegging around the house. Have walked around a little bit but find it hard due to the nausea.Pain is well under control. My hubby very kindly decided to sleep in the spare room yesterday so I had the bed all to myself. It was great. I normally sleep on my side or stomach.I used a pillow next to my stomach which was a tremendous help - I was able to sleep on my side with no pain. At the moment I am not hungry and have also been burping quite a lot. Will have to try to get some kind of Protein down a bit later. At the moment I am sipping a cup of warm tea and hoping that the nausea eventually subsides. The noises coming from my stomach at the moment are incredible. So I am now on the other side and on my way:thumbup: __________________
  13. I think lots of us ate everything in sight before the preop diet. Don't beat yourself up too much, just try your hardest now and make sure you stick to the preop so you don't jeopardise your surgery.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Sorry to hear about the morphine reaction. I found i was itchy after the op especially around the nose and was told that was probably a reaction to the morphine. I'm glad my reaction wasn't as severe as yours. Hope that goes away soon. If anyone knows of a cure for the nausea please let me know because it is driving me insane. I probably need food but am feeling so sick i am struggling to get it down.

How much to have band removed?

  16. Am still wondering what has happened to the homepage. I don't like this new one that takes you directly to the forums I preferred the one that showed all the new threads. Is this a temporary glitch or a permanent change? Please say its only temporary - please bring the old one back.

How much to have band removed?

So next timeI get called a poo-poo head I should just ignore it? I thought I had the right to say that this was unacceptable and I thought I did it in a non argumentative way. I would have been happy had one of the moderators said this comment was unacceptable but they didn't so I did it myself.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

It is amazing the differences between surgeons and continents. My surgery is this afternoon. I had a final app on Friday to ask any questions and that was it. No preop class, no bell prep and certainly none of the exams that you have mentioned. Makes you wonder where they are putting the band!
  22. Mine is today. Sitting at home trying to stay calm and not think about it too much - which probably means I shouldn't be on the site. I'm not too nervous about the lapband. I have met enough people at the support group that have said they would do it over and over again for the results that they have got to believe that I am doing the right thing. I just hate surgery and anaesthetics in general. I think this will be the 6th time for me and I always wake up feeling crap. So for me it is the process of getting it that I fear more than what happens afterwards. We will be fine.
  23. Thanks for letting me know whats going on. Its appreciated.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

Good luck for the 1st. I'm tomorrow and I don't have any kind of stuff to drink preop. I'm frustrated this morning as i got on my scales and have gained .5kg. I didn't cheat yesterday so I assume it has to be hormones. I actually think that I am going to be really unlucky and be menstruating tomorrow! I suppose that will just give me a bit more pain to deal with.
