Port Revision...
elcee replied to savannahsmommie's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thats really bad luck. Hope your revisions go well. All the best -
Just wondering why you would need 2000 calories. Most diets recommend between 1000 - 1200 for weight loss. Are you sure you have the correct figure?

Of course we have room for 1 more. Welcome and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Food "intolerances' at what stage did they start
elcee replied to elcee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes I'm 4 weeks post op, have had 1 small fill and don't seem to be having problems which is why I was wondering. I haven't tried bread but I can eat toast - with nice soft poached egg on top. -
Anyone ever heard of a band "exploding"
elcee replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe it was due to the post op gas - it permeated the band and then exploded! Or wait I have another explanation. The person who's band exploded may have been a deep sea diver and they came back up to the surface too quickly.................... LOL -
Not a believer but i am sending positive thoughts instead. Hope everything turns out well.

Food "intolerances" when did they start?
elcee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought I posted this earlier but have just searched and can't find it anywhere. Either my PC is playing up or I am losing the plot................(probably the latter)! My apologies if I have posted it twice. My question is if you are intolerant of certain types of foods since being banded e.g bread when did the problems start? Was it prior to your first fill, after your first fill or was it only after you had had a number of fills and were beginning to feel restriction? -
Hey scalaholics, does this happen to you?
elcee replied to KartMan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It doesn't really matter which brand you are using so long as you use the same scale all the time. Other things to focus on are how clothes feel etc. Don't forget that especially for us females hormones can cause major weight fluctuations too. -
Really bad night Thursday night!

Thanks for explaining that. -

That is a lesson for us all. Sorry you had to go through that, hope you are feeling better. They must measure sugar levels differently in the US to in Aus as when I read your post I thought 60 was high. Normal blood sugar levels here are supposed to be between 4 - 8(what I don't know). 60 would be way high.People that are first diagnosed as being diabetic often have sugar levels in the 20s. Just another example of how confusing differences between countries can be. Personally I think life would be so much easier if everything worldwide was standardised. Plugs, weights and measurements etc etc. -
You need to see a Dr and get a few things checked out. This sounds as though it could be low blood pressure, low Iron or even hypoglycaemia. All of which could be caused by dietary deficiencies. Again if you don't have the correct nutrition to support your exercise regime it is going to cause problems. maybe you are not eating enough red meat or there could be other Vitamin deficiencies due to the low level of vegies being consumed. It's good that you have recognised that your health rather than continued weight loss is the most important factor.I am sure that some blood tests will quickly help identify the problem. Good luck hope you feel better soon

Not sure how you can measure ounces in a cup. As far as I am aware an ounce is a weight measurement so needs to be done on a scale. A cup is not a weight measurement it is a volume measurement. So which one you use would depend on if you have been told to eat a certain weight e.g 3 oz or a volume eg 1 cup. HTH

How can you get fired for having a band? That sounds like discrimination and I'm sure it can't be legal?

I had my op on 2 June and had my first fill yesterday. It was totally unexpected as my app was booked for Monday.I had decided to phone the Dr's rooms after work yesterday to see if there were any special dietary or other requirements prior to my first fill and got told that my app was at 5.45pm yesterday not Monday. I was told that they had left me a message telling me about the change but I never got it. Seems like they had the incorrect phone no! Problem was this was 4.10pm and I was approx a 2 hr drive away! Luckily(never thought I would be happy about this) Dr was running about an hour late(as usual) which meant I had enough time to get there. The whole process was really quick, easy and almost painless. Yes I felt the needle go in but it was no worse than when they draw blood. I can't understand why some people get a local first as whenever I have had a local it has stung like crazy and I'm sure that would be worse than the actual procedure. Here in Australia they don't use flouro as they like to fill slowly. Small regular amounts. I did ask how much he put in but for some reason I can't remember the answer. I think it was either 1 or 1.5, I have the AP small band. I was told to stay on liquids yesterday and soft mushy foods for the next couple of days.Liquids are going down fine but I haven't tried eating yet. I was also told that all my scars are healing really well. I'm happy that I am now officially on my way!

All I know is that he managed to keep me awake the whole night because for some dumb reason I had the line "Heal the world, make it a better place.........." stuck in my head on constant repeat. And no i'm not an MJ fan!

I got a keloid from a previous op and I'm very fair. I didn't do anything to it as this was long ago and there wasn't really anything available but over time it eventually dissappeared.

elcee replied to KartMan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree , I think you need a hobby. At the moment I am still stuck in the pattern of weighing myself every morning which I know is bad. Especially when the scales have been stuck all week. Jumping on them several times a day certainly won't help! Maybe try and focus on how your clothes feel or something else. Or lock your scales away! -
America or Mexico and everything in between!
elcee replied to hopebw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WASABUBBLEBUTT has a lot of info on how to research a mexican surgeon. I don't think looks come into it. LOL -
I haven't been told no caffeine. I'm a tea drinker , which still has caffeine in it, and i drink as much of the stuff as I ever did. Its one vice I'm not likely to give up and the NUT said tea was fine.

Just wondering if this comp is open to everyone or only those resident in the USA? -
I see what you mean. Thought I'd pay the forum a visit and you're right, it seems sleevers do have problems too, its not quite the plain sailing that you would think when you read some of the posts on this board! But yes that also doesn't mean that the sleeve isn't a good option. It just proves once again that you need to research the WLS you choose, find the one you think is right for you and be well informed about potential problems etc beforehand. As they say forewarned is forearmed.

HELP!!! Someone please reassure me!!!
elcee replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WASA Well said. Its good for someone with experience to come in and stand up for Agnes as the whole thing was getting ridiculous. THANKS. -
Thanks for the idea's so far. Most of the commercial types are flavoured - peach, lemon etc and this is what I am really after. LOL. I am sure I can manage PLAIN iced(cold tea)!

HELP!!! Someone please reassure me!!!
elcee replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone thought that Agnes does not HAVE to go to Mexico but is going there because that is where it is affordable for someone who is selfpay? Who say's that no US surgeon's will do the surgery? They probably will but at a much higher prices. There appears to be a similar situation in the UK. I have noticed that a lot of Brits that have or are getting the band are going abroad to get it done. The majority seem to get it done in Belgium. Yes I am sure that ideally she would prefer to have the op closer to home but everyone has to make decisions based on lots of different factors one of which has to be the cost.It may turn out that in the long run it costs more. I do believe though from having read other threads that there are some fill centres in the US that will take patients that have had there surgery elsewhere.Maybe this is an option that she can look at.
