  1. No don't be fearfull but make sure that you make choices that are healthy and satisfying. Mashed pumpkin, sweet potato, mashed potato, cauliflower etc etc would all be far better choices than mushed up fries!

    Movie stars with weight issues.....

I see there is another thread on this subject. I would post a link but not sure how to!

    Red meat?

I use my slow cooker a lot. Red meat done in that is great.

    Movie stars with weight issues.....

Fern Britton - she's a Brirish TV presenter. Although she didn't come out with it and there were lots of articles in magazines talking about how she was losing weight, what her diet plan was etc so i think that when it eventually came out a lot of people felt they had been conned.

    Do you attend support groups?

Another advantage to the support group I attend is the clothes swap. A great way of saving money on clothes in a size which hopefully you won't be in for long. I have to admit though that having a lower starting BMI means that there isn't often anything for me.
  6. Something I would love to know is Where do you feel these things? I have only had 1 small fill so don't have restriction yet. Sometimes when I start eating I feel I need to eat slower because it feels as though it may stick in my throat. But this doesn't make sense to me as the band is around my stomach - not my throat!

    Do you attend support groups?

I go to a monthly group and its great. Its more a social thing but people do tell their stories and listening to them and seeing how much weight they have lost is truly inspirational. As I don't personally know anyone that has had WLS it was particularly valuable for me in the preop/deciding to go ahead stage.

    after gastric bypass

I have heard of instances where Bypass patients have had a band later as well. What the success rate is I have no idea.
  9. Maybe if you are only eating protein during the day your body needs and is crying out for carbs. Try including some healthy, low GI, high fibre carbs with your protein and you may find that you are more satisfied and may not eat at night.

    Slim picture instantly...

I tried this and was not impressed. If I'm going to look like that after losing 41lb I may as well give up now! I think the problem is it slimmed the outline slightly but didn't really reduce things proportionately - certainly did nothing for my double chins etc.
  11. I'm going for my 2nd fill on Monday. First one was great, done by my surgeon, found the port first time. The app on Monday is with one of his team so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whoever does it is as good as the surgeon. Here in Aus they like to fill conservatively and don't use flouro etc.

    Major port pain

The needle is an inanimate object, it cannot operate on its own , it needs someone to operate it! The important thing at the moment though is that your wife gets better.
  13. Question re numbing shots. Don't you find these hurt? In my experience whenever I have had a local they sting like crazy which in my mind would be worse then the actual fill.
  14. I would love to be able to eat at the same 3 times a day and not be hungry inbetween. Hopefully after a couple of fills the not hungry inbetween will happen. However with my job it is impossible to schedule eating times and no I'm not just making excuses. I'm a trainer and depending on the course and the client the times can vary widely. Its good if I am doing a full day course as then I can normally have a break and lunch somewhere between 12 - 12.30. There are some courses that run from 10 - 2. these play havoc with lunch as by the time I'm finished I'm normally starving. Then probably the worst are the ones that run from approx 3.30 - 6.30 or 7. Especially as often I have an 60 - 90 min drive home. By the time I get home I am tired and starving! I don't mind taking food with me for lunch as there are lots of things that are easy to pack and eat but its difficult at dinner time as I want to be able to eat a "proper" meal. Also a lot of these late courses are at schools and they just want to get out and lock up as soon as the course is finished. Eating cold food in my car in the dark really doesn't appeal. Still trying to work out the best thing to do on days like these!

    Fills

NO! Yes you can feel it but it's not painful and its over really quickly. To me it was like going for a blood test - fine so long as you don't watch them put the needle in!
  16. I was also dreading this and have found it really easy. Sometimes I will have a drink upto 15 min before - but going for 1hr afterwards has actually been incredibly easy. Its just a pain when I'm working as I get a 30min lunch break so can't eat and have a drink at lunchtime!

    Major port pain

I hope everything goes well. it is so frustrating when something is obviously the Dr's fault and they refuse to take responsibility.

    Realistic Weight Loss

If you read any of the literature it says that average weight loss is 1 - 2 llbs per week. This means you are losing exactly as expected.
  19. I don't have sleep apnea , couldn't sleep and still kept setting alarms off! For some strange reason anaeathesia tends to make me not be able to sleep rather than be sleepy. Every time I relaxed my monitor dropped from 100 to 90 (whatever it was measuring) and the alarm went off which certainly prevented me from sleeping. They did give me the oxygen tube with the prongs that sit in your nose but that was a joke as it wouldn't stay on. Maybe its good for people who stay in one place but I move around all the time!

    Will I Go COMPLETELY Bald?!

Just wondering when you started to notice the hair loss. I am 5 weeks post surgery and haven't noticed any so far.Is it something I still have to look forward to?
  22. Nothing bad here - my experience was all good
  23. It could just be dry skin . Remember you have just had an op, anaesthetic etc and these can affect your skin. Also you have had a major change in diet which also impacts on your skin. let us know what the outcome is.

    Yowza! This hurts!

I so agree. Me for one. I have arguments with myself all the time about whether I should go vegie or not. I could not eat anything I had to kill myself and there is no way I could be a farmer unless of course it was a wine farm! The reason I haven't turned vegie is that my DH and DS would mutiny if I didn't cook them meat and if I'm preparing and cooking it anyway then I may as well eat it. It is not the health thing that worries me about eating meat as I believe that we were designed to eat it, it's the cruelty thing. there are so many things they do to poor animals that we are not even aware of. It was only recently that I discovered how cruel the dairy industry is - all those poor Bobby calves - prior to that I thought milk was a cruelty free option.
