  1. Maybe it was where the doc used his knee so that he could get better leverage to pull the tools back out! Only joking. I remember reading another post where someone said she was so bruised she was convinced she had fallen off the table. So what they really do when we're in surgery is anyones guess!

    Life is Good

I'm only 2 months out so I'm still very new at this. But there were clothes in my wardrobe that previously I couldn't do up that are getting so lose they keep slipping down, and my work shirts which were horribly tight and restrictive are now comfortable.I love the fact that I am not constantly hungry. Previously when at home I would spend the day foraging for food - now I can happilly ignore the fridge.

    Life is Good

Thanks for the inspirational posts. Its great to read the good stuff not just the bad.Glad that you are doing so well - keep it up.
  4. Just wondering if it is still OK to get a massage after being banded? I am talking about aromatherapy, hot stone etc etc - the kind you get at a beauty spa not the sexual kind. Thought I should clarify that just in case - I've seen the way some of these threads end up. LOL.:juggle: I am wondering if it would be uncomfortable or interfere with the port or anything like that. So if anyone has had one I would love to know what your experience was, how long you waited after banding etc. Thanks
  5. If DH wants to see Aussie rules the best place is Melbourne, however I think Feb is off season. Grand final is in Sept and not being a fan I'm not sure when it starts again. The Great Ocean Rd is spectacular. The Penguin parade at Phillip Island. Lots of sport and culture in Melbourne itself. Grampians are good. Gippsland is stunning. Hanging Rock especially if you have seen the movie. Tasmania is beautiful. Sydney has the coat hanger and the opera House and lots more too I'm sure but i've only been there for a weekend.Still a newbie here and haven't been everywhere yet. Be aware Feb is one of our hottest months.Temps 40 deg C plus(you'll have to look up a conversion). Campervan should be easy to hire. HTH
  6. Sorry about the pain, I can't give advice on how to relieve it. However you say that you are making bad food choices when in pain. As you also say that you get this pain regularly why don't you try prempting it and have healthy food prepared ready? Maybe make breakfast the night before, cook a bit earlier than you normally would, have healthy Snacks at work in the fridge etc.At least then you should still be able to lose weight whilst your doc try's to figure out what the problem is. Good luck

those of you with ideal restriction

There's aother thread called "a day in your life with the band". Why don't you have a look as it has the same info. I would post a link for you but don't know how.
  8. I don't sip I drink the same as preband. I have noticed a difference though as sometimes I only drink half my mug of tea which for a teaholic is a huge change!

Approved for VSG, not sure what to do?

HI WASA. Long time no hear - how is life on "the other side"
  10. Well depends on if its a work or non work day. Work days. Up at 6am. Cup of tea check emails etc. Have shower get dressed and then have breakfast. Either oats or egg on toast. Get to work sometimes have another cup of tea.I'm a trainer so am restricted to eating at specific break times which sometimes makes remembering fluids difficult. Break at 10am have a cup of tea or if I'm feeling hungry a cup of soup. Lunch noon either a tuna & salad wrap, leftovers or tinned tuna with crackers. Afternoon try to remember to drink crystal light whilst working.( Managed to source some on ebay and i love the stuff)! Finish work at 4pm and am normally starving. Sometimes I have a cup of soup, sometimes a couple of nuts or sometimes I wait till I get home and have a slice of ham/cheese.More tea (have you noticed i'm a teapot yet) Dinner anytime between 6.30 - 7.30. I eat whatever the rest of the family is eating but smaller quantities. Slowcooked meat and rice, spag bol, roast chicken and vegies whatever. Sometimes in the evening I get slightly hungry again so I might have a Nestle Diet mousse or yogurt and fruit. Oh and of course another cup of tea. Most days i don't manage to eat fruit although on my dieticians plan 2 serves per day are recommended. I also don't drink the serves of milk. Non work days the stuff I eat is similar but times are a lot more flexible. I am only 2 months postop and have only had 2 small fills so as I get further along I am sure this will all change and that I will be eating a lot less.

    Reflux and the band

Would love to know the answer to this is My NUT told me that you can't have reflux after being banded but reading the many threads from people here with both I would have to say he's wrong!
  12. Good luck. The journey takes a while but it is so worth it. I am 2 months post op and so far have lost 12kg. Not a huge amount yet but more than I could have lost on my own.

    JUNE 2009 Lap Band Surgery

All fine here. Had 2nd fill last week am upto 2.5ml in a 10ml band. Am feeling a bit of restriction but still get hungry especially between lunch and dinner. Weight seems to be sitting on a plateau at the moment so am hoping that will start to drop soon. Other than that, nothing to report!

    Pasta anyone??

I eat pasta regularly and so far have not had any problems. I also eat wholewheat bread, rice etc.
  15. Actually its not only gas pains - too many can give you the runs. I remember going to movies years ago and buying a cup of SF candies instead of the regular ones.I really paid for it later that night, i was in total agony. These days they normally have a warning printed on them that says excessive consumption can result in a laxative effect. Believe me they are not kidding.
  16. Corn is listed as a food that may cause problems on the notes that I was given.
  17. I found the thread/s you mentioned and they do make for interesting reading. I did give up though after the first couple of pages as there were so many........... Which also means i don't know the eventual outcome. Nothing against HH but it is useful to look at previous posts from people especially when they appear to be an expert. I will agree with HH's advice usual advice though which is to research and make sure you pick the right WLS that will suit you. And WASA does seem to be an expert on researching Dr's and i have a feeling that she also used Dr Aceves.

    Eating Before a Fill

I have to do liquids for the remainder of the day after the fill but have not been told not to eat beforehand
  19. I had my 2nd fill yesterday and now I can feel a difference. I definetly have to take much smaller bites, chew more and wait in between. But what I would really like to know is if the band is sitting around the stomach, somewhere in the centre of the chest why is the restriction felt in the throat? If I eat too fast I feel it in the region of my throat where my jaw joins my neck - is this the same for everyone? This doesn't seem to make sense.
  20. Thanks for the responses. It can't have been a traffic jam as it was happening at the beginning of a meal. Bites were small but I'm now trying for smaller. Its weird - it feels as though the food is getting stuck in the oesophagus but I'm still struggling to understand the mechanics of why.If I was already full then yes it would make more sense.

    No surgery today...

Instead of being a sign maybe you were sick because you are not ready. The mind is very powerful and can cause genuine symptoms.Reading your post you do sound as though you are unsure. Hopefully you resolve this soon. Good luck whatever you decide.

It is the bacteria that is the common cause of stomach ulcers. Dr probably wants to make sure you don't have an ulcer or a risk of getting one.
  23. Knowing why is important. When I lived in South Africa I was part of an organisation that helped to introduce workplace qualifications. A really important part of those qualifications was the Underpinning knowledge - UK. E.g If you tell a trainee chef to use different coloured chopping boards for different types of food they might follow that for a while. But there will come a time when they will think what is the point of this, its just extra work for no valid reason or the boss being awkward or whatever. However if they are taught the reason behind it which is obviously to reduce the risk of cross contamination, food poisoning etc they are more likely to always do it.

Do you burp all the time?

Yes , 7 weeks out and still burping!

    Dry Lips??? Help!

I've never been able to use chapsticks as they bring me out in cold sores. In winter its a vicious circle. If they get too dry I break out but if I use chapstick or vaseline then I break out anyway!
