Even if it is a day surgery something could happen which means that they keep you in overnight. Your Dr's list probably takes this possibility into account. Better to be prepared by having too much than not having what you need.

1700 calories is way too high for weight loss. This may have been a figure for maintenance. Remember you should be listening to the professionals that you are paying to help you through this journey. Information found online is not always accurate, reliable or appropriate to your situation.

Questions [and a true story!] to all....
elcee replied to NYC_gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yor Dr sounds like a meglomaniac sadist. I think finding a new one is a really good idea. Good luck - hope the new guy didn't skip the bedside manner classes like the other one did. -
? re slippage due to vomiting or heaving

I know that it is recommended that people should brush their tongue but I don't know how anyone can do it. It makes me gag every time. -

Swelling, Thrush, Allergic Reactions...
elcee replied to ffpandamer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. However as Emjay said they seem to have been caused by an allergic reaction to the meds and have got nothing to do with the band. I am sure once the effects of the allergy are gone you will be fine. All the best -
No as the others have said you can't feel it.

Why not get it from food instead of a supplement. I eat an egg most days and also eat lots of fish.
-
If that was true I would give up from boredom and starve cos I wouldn't finish it. You will probably get lots of different answers. Some Dr's say 1 cup of food, some say 2 others say 1/2 cup. What I have been told is that my food should fill a side plate not a dinner plate and that it should take approx 20 - 30 min to eat. You can even buy a special bandsters plate that shows correct portion sizes. I think there is one available at a site called greatideas in nutrition or something like that. I don't measure I just eyeball it.

I'm done telling people about lap-band
elcee replied to dragonflylover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
They also watch TV! LOL We had an episode of a medical show called All Saints last week which featured a woman with a lapband. To summarise. She looked normal weight. Had the surgery approx a month ago in Korea. (No one from Australia goes to Korea to get a lapband put in)!Lost 10kg in a month cos it was so tight she couldn't eat.(Who is that tight 1 month after surgery - for most of us getting to a decent fill level takes months). Ignored her surgeons advice to get liquid out - again if it was done in Korea she wouldn't be there and seeing her surgeon still. It was causing lots of pain and I think she developed septiceamia. They operated and she died on the table. So blame the media and then try to reeducate them. Or alternatively you can take the approach that I have used - just don't tell anyone. What you do with your body is your business! So this is the kind of info that people have . Stuff that is sensationalist and essentially wrong. TV is irresponsible because they don't like to portray things accurately. Yes you can die from the op as you can from any op. The more you weigh the higher the risk. The risky part is the anaesthesia. There may be complications but if you go to a reputable experienced surgeon both for the op and the followup care all should be well. Dr's instructions should be followed and you should also make sure you are not too tight as being too tight is one of the major causes of problems. -
How long did your dr tell you to wait to bathe?
elcee replied to kristik99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never discussed this with my doc as we have such a water shortage in Australia that most people don't bath. The shower uses far less water especially if you keep to the recommended 3 minutes or less! -
Are there medic alert charms that fit Lovelinks or Pandora bracelets?

I posted a whole thread on this.According to my measurements I have a size 14 bust, a size 20 waist and a size 8 - 10 bum! So which shop stocks clothes for that body shape???? I have lost 16kg(35lb) since my heaviest weight in Jan and have approx 6kg(13.2lb) to go. It's wonderful - I feel great. Now I want to be in photo's instead of always behind the camera. And what is even better is that the whole process has been relatively easy. Yes I get stuck sometimes but on the whole if I am careful I can eat anything. I haven't cut out any food groups, I don't count calories and if I feel like a treat I will have one. this is the best thing I have ever done. I wish I had done this years ago instead of wasting money on:- Various diet clubs e.g weight watchers "Dodgy" programmes e.g Sure slim Pills e.g Reductil,Nobese Clinics that used machines to melt the fat Hypnosis Just to name a few:thumbup:

Correct - if you need CPR you are basically "dead". If you survive with any kind of injury you are better off than if you don't.The Life over limb principle. E.g if someone tries to perform CPR and they break a rib they shouldn't stop - they should just check their hand position and carry on. This may be contoversial in the US as the culture there especially with litigation is very different to here in Aus, but it is what we teach in first aid classes.I know I would rather be alive with a broken rib than dead because someone was too scared to carry on.

Sorry to hear this she must be so upset. Any idea what happened. It sounds more like an erosion or other problem rather than a slip. Did she have signs and symptoms prior to this or were the chest pains the other day the first indication that anything was wrong. Wishing her all the best for a speedy recovery.

Dizzy spells, fatigue, nausea, weird pain. Help! What is wrong with me?
elcee replied to celeste_'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had 2 similar episodes to this about 18 months ago - pre band. Absolutely horrific. I was asleep and the pain woke me up. It lasted for a couple of hours which I spent trying to sleep on the bathroom floor. For some reason that was the most comfortable soothing place. I went for tests including an ultrasound and they didn't find anything. I believe that it probably was a gall stone passing. It hasn't happened since and i hope it never does. It was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. -
Dizzy? Low Energy.. Not enough food? BP?
elcee replied to addunn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dizziness can also be caused by things like low iron.It might be worth getting that checked out too. -
1st Support Group Mtg was Great!
elcee replied to bdbmamaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please note that these can only be considered cheating if you are following a Protein only or low carb diet. In Australia we do not follow the high protein regime and therefore eating these things is not regarded as cheating. There are lots of people at the support group that I go to that have lost as much or more and they did it following a diet that includes all food groups. So please do not think that you have to exclude these foods to be successful - it is not true. -
Today must have been my most awful day so far. I work as a first aid trainer. The day started off fairly normally except when I got to work one of my students advised me that she has epilepsy and has some type of seizure on a daily basis. Yes I know how to handle seizures but the thought of having to deal with one and a class full of students had me a little concerned. I had also been told to expect a reporter from the local press at 11am. Reporters with big camera's taking pics whilst I work are not my favourite people. Also when I am teaching I find it difficult to remember/get the chance to drink enough due to set break times. So when working I am probably a little dehydrated. All of this was probably a recipe for disaster. 11am came and went, no reporter. We broke for lunch at 11.45.I had a cup of Soup and waited about 20min before having some left over corned beef from last night. It was very moist and soft and I had no problems with it yesterday. I was busy eating when I looked up and saw a group of people with camera's standing outside the office door. I got a huge fright and the mouthful that I was eating probably didn't get chewed as well as it should have. One of the reporters then proceeded to interview me. I was not expecting this as they had been given a press release. I could feel the food was stuck and whilst I was talking strange gurgling noises were coming from my throat! I excused myself, went to the bathroom and slimed. Got back to interview ASAP.After the interview finished I had to stand there and have multipe photo's taken. Still feeling awful! The expression on my face was more of a grimace than a smile. Thankfully they left so I could run and slime some more! However this had taken so long it was now time to start teaching again. Tried very hard to carry on as normal but it wasn't working. Had to dissappear every 5 - 10 minutes to slime some more. Goodness knows what the class thought although I sort of alluded to indigestion due to getting a fright and being disturbed whilst eating. This carried on for 2 hours until afternoon break time. I had tried chewing Papaya and it hadn't worked.Had a couple of mouthfulls of warm tea which came back up but it didn't solve the problem. Eventually had to stick my finger down my throat - instant relief! Not a day I want to repeat in a hurry. Also from now on I am going to have to make sure I stick to soft foods at work.

Two alternative ways to get "unstuck"
elcee replied to Marmite_crumpet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I saw the title I was excited that there might be a new way of finding relief. But after reading them I don't think these will work for me.LOL. I live in a single storey house and there are no speed bumps for miles around. I can imagine if i did find one and launch my car at it I would probably be arrested for being a hoon! -
You have to eat crusts to make your hair curl...............! I eat toast regularly and wholemeal wraps. I have also eaten sandwiches when on courses where food is provided and so far haven't had a problem.

why do people start their own conversations within a thread?
elcee replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree - it is really easy to get sidetracked! Where not all 100% focused! -
Just looking through a clothing catalogue and thinking about ordering some clothes but what size??? When you are not the perfect traditional hourglass shape it can be really hard. According to my measurements Bust 98cm = size 14 "Waist" 92cm = size 18 - 20 Hips 97cm = size 10! no wonder I have so many problems buying clothes, especially trousers. If they fit the "waist" they just fall off the hips etc. Problem is that I don't see this problem being resolved even when i get to goal. I am never going to be an hourglass I will always be an apple and most sizes are not designed for apples!

Difference between Band friendly and Slider foods?
elcee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been wondering this for a while. Slider foods are foods that you are able to eat easily, that are fairly high calorie. e.g icecream, chocolate, custard, crisps, crackers etc Then there are the slider foods which it is OK to eat in moderation as they are of high nutritional value e.g yogurt But what is a band friendly food? The name implies that it must be fairly easy to eat, but if it goes down easily wouldn't it also be a slider? What is the difference? For me things like eggs, tuna, pasta etc all go down easily - so are they sliders or band friendly? Things which have caused me to PB or get stuck are usually meats, chicken and sometimes I suspect certain salad leaves, Obviously these are not band friendly or sliders but they are the kind of foods we should be eating as they will keep us feeling full for longer. Difference between Band friendly and Slider foods?
elcee replied to elcee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the responses but they weren't quite what I was looking for. I know what foods I am and aren't supposed to eat and as I do not do Protein first probably eat a more varied diet than most. I'm not too tight, most of the time if I am paying attention I can eat most foods although something that has worked the one day sometimes doesn't work the next. I eat Breakfast every day - normally an egg on toast. But the difference between band friendly and a slider is confusing.I think I liked greytz definition But the other way of looking at it is that it is anything that goes down easily. e.g I have even seen chilli referred to as a slider. Or maybe if it goes down easily but doesn't melt is it band friendly not a slider!
