    lap band erosion

I never hated my band. I loved that it helped me achieve my goal weight. It was frustrating though that the marketing hype and the reality were completely different. I hated the reflux. I hated that after 6 or so years it was completely ineffective. I hated that I had to pay for a second lot of surgery when I had hoped that my band would be a permanent solution.
  3. Taking vitamins is not really an issue. I take one in the morning and one at night and that really isn’t a biggie. Also remember that not everyone dumps and if you do there are alternatives. I haven’t tried normal icecream since my surgery but I do eat Halo top and that is yummy. If I go out for dinner I will have a couple of mouthfuls of hubby’s dessert and that satisfies me and doesn’t cause an issue.
  4. I can understand all that. Having to have surgery is never fun, having to pay for the surgery is even less fun. Being at goal would make you even more reluctant as you and your sleeve are obviously a great team and you don’t want to mess that up. But ultimately your health is paramount and it does sound as though this surgery is a medical necessity. I am with the others in that I don’t understand why you need to do the liver sharing diet. It sounds as though your surgeons office has a 1 size fits all approach instead of looking properly at each individual. I was overweight when I had my revision from band to bypass and I was only required to stick with clean eating

    Should I or shouldn’t I get Lap-Band

My thoughts are that if you have a lapband now you will almost certainly be looking at having some kind of revision within the next 10 years. They were thought to be safe because they were marketed as being reversible but in reality although they can be removed they also cause a lot of internal damage. Some people are successful, some aren't , some are initially but then band stops working and no amount of fills will change it. Your eating with a band also becomes very disordered. Most people struggle to eat one bite of healthy solid proteins such as steak, chops, chicken - often that 1 bite will get stuck and cause hours of intense pain. The same does not happen with unhealthy foods though - chocolate, cheese, cookies, cake go down with the greatest of ease. I had my band removed 7 weeks ago due to various issues and I revised to an RNY. At the moment the RNY is like heaven in comparison. I can eat small quantities of healthy food and be satisfied. Steak and chops have never tasted so good. Whatever you decide to do good luck but if I was in your shoes I would be postponing and doing some more research.
  7. 27.3 on surgery day. Slightly higher before I started my preop which wasn’t op it was just clean eating
  8. The best way to lose that amount is to start now. Don't wait for your op

    Vitamins - Yuck!

In Aus we get to take BN chewables for the first month and they are gross. I even tried to crush or dissolve them so I could disguise them and it didn’t work. They are like industrial strength horse tablets

    What just happened?

Sounds as though it could have been dumping or lactose intolerance
  11. Oops just realised you are 3 days presurgery, not post! Ignore what I said
  12. Salad may be healthy but it is also completely the wrong kind of texture for this stage of your healing. Surgeons have dietary recommendations for a reason. Carry on eating things that you shouldnt be and you run the risk of a leak, blockage or worse! You also have to ask yourself if you can't manage not to cheat on day 3 how are you going to cope on week 3, month 3, year 3? Do you really want to set yourself up for failure after what you have just been through?

No protein shakes! Possible or no?

I only used them for the 2 weeks post op but I do have a lower BMI. Those with higher BMIs would probably struggle to get in all their required protein without them

    Chronic cough

Sounds as though it could be reflux
  15. Do you have severe reflux? Did you have symptoms prior to the sleeve, you didn’t have a band previously did you? What treatment are they going to use?

    BMI TOO LOW???

A BMI of 43 not high enough, WTF! If the surgeon prefers to only do sleeves maybe it's because he/she isn't skilled enough to do RNY. RNY is a more complex operation. I would be going with the more experienced surgeon even if they did cost more. You can't put a price on your life.
  17. I am now 6 weeks post RNY and loving it. To me the RNY is doing what we were told that the band would do that it didn't. I can eat smaller portions of healthy food and be satisfied. I remember being told that with the band if we ate too much we would get sick. Well I never got sick from eating too much but I had more episodes than I can count where 1 bite of something healthy would get stuck and then I would be in pain for hours and still hungry! On Friday I ate steak for the first time in years. A small portion of eye fillet with salad and it was great.

    Yup. I regret this.

Have you had your potassium levels checked? Low potassium can cause low BP and make you passout, I know as it happened to me after my band.

    Im so angry

The only people who's diets we can control are our own and our minor children's. Husbands are out of our control
  20. I know that it is usually gas but I have also heard that left shoulder pain can also be a sign of a leak. https://www.princetonhcs.org/care-services/institute-for-surgical-care/the-center-for-bariatric-surgery-and-metabolic-medicine/resources/articles-tips/stomach-pain-after-bariatric-surgery

    Cucumbers ??

If you blend them then you can have them on the puree stage otherwise you need to wait until you start solids

    Portion Sizes

I am only 6 weeks post op but yes I have been successful. I was a revision so I didn't have a high starting weight but I am already back in the healthy weight range.
