  1. :laugh:yep I can see how this could happen. I went for a small fill this morning. Now my dr's rooms are a good 1.25 hrs drive away and also happen to be close to some of the worlds best icecream shops. I figured that as I have to spend the rest of the day on liquids and i don't get the chance to go there very often that I may as well treat myself and have icecream. I know that my logic is very skewed going for a fill and icecream in the same day but what the heck - it was DIVINE.

    less restriction after fill

Can't work out how to do the link!!! This was the actual thread title ( note the spelling mistake) so you should be able to find it. Sorry i am so technologically challenged! Taking fill out to check amount no longer ecommended

    Possible erosion...

Keeping fingers crossed for a good outcome. If the port has flipped it is a relatively easy procedure to fix it. I do know people that this has happened to.
  4. The band is supposedly made of totally hypoallergenic substances and should not cause an allergy. to me the more likely explanation is that you have some kind of infection - possibly from the surgery. Obviously Dr's don't like to admit this so will always look for other explanations particularly ones which mean that they are not at fault. However having said that these days it is possible to find someone who is allergic to absolutely anything. So although substances that cause true allergies are normally an amino acid and have to be of a certain molecular weight there are some weird allergies out there. e.g ice urticaria Good luck hope you find an answer.

    less restriction after fill

I posted a thread about this exact issue a while back. In Australia they no longer believe in drawing the Fluid out when they do a fill as it affects the pressure and can cause problems. They now just do topups unless they have a reason to suspect the band is leaking.

    What am I feeling?

I had something similar for a while. It can happen sometimes when you are too tight. It is a kind of referred pain. Apparently there is some nerve in the area of the stoma that is connected to the oesophagus. So although the problem seems as though it is in the oesophagus it actually isn't. Sorry that doesn't sound very scientific but that was how it was explained to me. HTH
  7. Try dark meat not breast and eat it with some kind of sauce. It makes chicken a lot easier to get down. Just because it has caused a problem today doesn't mean you should give it up. Try again it may go down fine. The band can be fickle.
  8. ouch that is a long time for a stuck episode. My longest has been about 2 hrs and that is normally PBing and sliming the whole time. The fact that you can get tea down would seem to indicate that you don't need to go to ER. Normally when people are stuck nothing will go down including liquid. If none of the things already suggested work but you can still drink then I suggest waiting and phoning your Dr as soon as their office opens. See if they think you need a slight unfill or if they suggest waiting.
  9. This is something that has been asked a number of times and to date has not been answered. I asked my fill Dr and her explanation to me really did not make sense. She said something about the food moving through a lot quicker than we think. If this is true then it contradicts how the band is supposed to work. Supposedly the food is supposed to sit in the pouch for a while so feeling stuck immediately does not make sense.Logically to me if i take a bite that's too big or don't chew properley it shouldn't hurt straight away as it shouldn't be going through the band straight away. But it hurts INSTANTLY.
  10. The surgeon. They are the one that's operating on you so I would want to make sure that i followed their advice.
  11. What was the problem? You get full, you are not eating huge portions, you can eat anything, you are still losing weight. Sounds to me like you have perfect restriction.
  12. You don't need advice you already know what you are doing wrong. If you not going to follow the rules then there was no point to getting the band. You know that you are not supposed to drink whilst eating as it washes the food through the stoma quickly and will not give you restiction and you will get hungry again quickly. As to how to stop drinking whilst eating its easy. As Nike says "Just do it"! You will never break the habit if you don't try. I will have a drink whilst I am preparing the food. Then nothing to drink whilst eating and not for another hour afterwards. That hour actually goes really quickly. You wouldn't buy an expensive new phone and complain that it didn't work when you tried to use it as a remote for your TV. The band is the same - it is a tool that has to be used the way it is designed to be used.
  13. My husband made muffins whilst I was still on liquids. Not because he was being mean but because he's a man. Men don't think! It was tough but I survived it. You should speak to them both and try to get them to stop doing it. After all it's your home. But the other side of the coin is that you will often come across situations like this. We can't spend our lives avoiding food so we have to learn how to deal with it.

    Why can I eat?

Now as a Mum i normally tell people that they should listen to their Mums as "Mum always knows best". But in this case she doesn't. You should be following your surgeons advice not your Mums. Who is the expert here, who did the surgery? Yes your surgeon not your Mum. As a number of other posters have said it is not a case of if you can eat it or not. It is a case of is it in your guidelines from your Dr? If it isn't then you shouldn't be eating it. The guidelines are there for very good reasons. You need to make a commitment and start following them.
  15. It can be hard to pick the right foods sometimes. Especially as different cooking methods come into play as well. Something that may be fine at home could be completely different in a restaurant(too dry etc) - I normally play safe when I eat out and pick fish. Surprised about the being sick though. i can PB quite violently sometimes but it is definetly a PB as there is never bile or anything like that involved. Only lots of foam! Hope the soup works.
  16. I think you should get the fill and then take smaller bites and chew slower. You obviously need the fill and you seem to have correctly identified that your problems are "operator error".
  17. you're not scared to stand on scales in front of other people! This actually happened to me when i was shopping the other day. I needed to buy new suitcases and wanted ones that were as light as possible. Although they have dimensions on them they don't have the weight. The shop assistant found me scales so I could weigh them and of course the case won't stand on the scale on its own. So I had to weigh myself with and without holding the case. There was another woman buying cases so she was watching too. There is no way i would have done that a couple of months ago.
  18. Teacher glad you are feeling a bit better. Also don't be so scared of an unfill. Most of the time they only take a small amount out and it can make a heap of difference. Far better to go this route than to stay overfilled, miserable and risk losing the band altogether. I believe that lots of people have issues with their band tightening when its that TOM. If this is happening to you then maybe the answer is to stick to liquids until its finished and then start eating other food again. Mimi hope you are feeling better and don't need to go for an unfill again. Did you actually vomit or was it PB/regurgitation
  19. Yes - not being able to eat is one thing, not being able to drink is something else entirely.if you can't get water down you need an URGENT unfill. Don't leave it as it could cause all sorts of problems.

    Loud Digestion?

Yes mine does exactly the same! Sometimes it happens in bed at night as well.
  21. The foam is saliva mixed with air. The body produces extra saliva to help food go down. The reason for it would be either you ate too fast bites were too big food wasn't chewed properly you ate too much you ate something that the band didn't like. Eating after a fill is a learning process - you have to figure it out all over again.
  22. Yes this was a stuck episode. Horrible isn't it?
  23. I think it is possible that they may be able to correct the slip by completely unfilling you for a while. It depends on jow and how badly the band has slipped. If that doesn't work they can remove the band and place a new one. Some Dr's do this at the same time others will wait inbetween. Again it probably depends on what they find when they do further tests or open you up. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you think. We always tend to imagine the worst case scenario!
  24. What cathy says is very true. Its like the old adage " no news is good news". Haven't you ever noticed how much space/time is devoted to bad stuff in newspapers, on TV etc but the amount of time/space devoted to good news stories is very small. Good news doesn't sell newspapers! It is also true that most people are nervous presurgery. I was and now it is 6 months later and I am so happy I went through with it. The time has flown. I am sure that you will be fine. All the best.
  25. No it is not cosmetic surgery.
