  1. There will be lots of people that say it’s not worth it. That you are not heavy enough that you can do it on your own. Remember every person that got to a BMI of 40 or more would once have had a BMI similar to yours. If it was that easy to lose on your own they would have done so not continued gained until they reached the 40 plus.
  2. My BMI when I got my band in 2009 was approx 32. Was it worth it ? HELL YES! I got down to a BMI of approx 22 before I slowly regained. Revised to RNY in Jan at a BMI of 28 ( due to reflux and other issues) and am now down to a BMI of 23.

    Back again family

So sorry to hear that. I’m curious as to why they needed to bend your neck to do the op, none of my incisions are anywhere near my neck, or was it the breathing tubes that they were having problems with. Hope it all goes well this time
  4. I couldn’t lose 4% in a month, at this point it will probably take me 3 months to more to lose another 4%!

    No support system

It’s fairly normal, you are the one having the surgery not them. As tough as it might be you are the one that has to learn how to deal with these difficult situations. I remember my husband making muffins a week or 2 after I got my band, he’s lucky he is still alive

    Post op since 2011

Are you still sticking to the guidelines you were given? Still exercising, eating mainly protein, keeping your calories low, avoiding sliders etc? Sometimes people don’t realise that they are not being as strict with themselves as they were when they first got the surgery. It might be time to go back to basics

    Dumping syndrome with VSG?

I have heard lots of sleevers say that they get dumping

    I'm in despair

You are approximately 2 weeks out The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Keep drinking. Make sure you take your vitamins Then follow your practices plan as best as you can. If it says you can have purées go ahead, if it says you should only be n liquids stick wiypth what. They are the ones you need to listen to not well meaning friends or neighbours. If you can’t get all your protein in at this stage don’t panic, just do your best. Eat what you can that works for you. And it does change, usually pretty rapidly so try not to stress
  9. Not being the internet police we would just like clarification and confirmation. What exactly does " Engaging in WLS medical procedures during the course of the diet bet" mean?
  10. They have sophisticated algorithms that pick up unusual losses. If they suspected something I am not sure what the procedure would be
  11. If you're caught engaging in the following practices, you'll be disqualified: Binging Purging Excessive fasting Hydration or dehydration for the sole purpose of manipulating your weight Undergoing any kind of bariatric surgery, liposuction, or other weight-loss procedures
  12. I also thought that people with wls were excluded

    Protein?!?

    Drink milk
  14. Good luck, it will soon all be over.
  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Custard Not sure what you call it in the US. It's definitely a protein food.
  16. Are you on soft or purée? Egg might be too difficult at this stage, maybe try sticking to things that blend easily with no lumps. Yogurt, custard, cooked veg etc
  17. Also are you sure it’s indigestion, it could be your heart, you should get that checked out too
  18. Reflux is a very common side effect. The usual advice is avoid fatty foods, spicy foods, too much protein , caffeine etc. Don’t eat within a couple of hours of going to bed.Dont drink and eat together, wait at least 20 - 30 minutes. If none of that helps then maybe your Dr will prescribe something that does and if the meds don’t work a revision may be required

    Smoking Post-Op

You have stopped before you can do it again, YOU know how to do it. Maybe when you are tempted focus on how you would feel if you developed another ulcer.

    Lap band and swallowing meds

The best thing for swelling when or after you have been stuck is sucking on crushed ice. It helps to reduce the swelling
  21. Being scared is perfectly normal. The complications threads can be terrifying but I think reading some is good as it helps to be well informed. Presumably your surgeon would also have given you information that outlines possible complications. You need to go into this believing that you won’t have any complications or if you do they won’t be as bad as the almost guaranteed complications from being obese. As someone already said happy people don’t post that often because happy news is boring! It doesn’t fill the tv news or the newspapers or wls sites!

    Can’t throw up??

It’s practically impossible to throw up with a lapband, I wouldn’t have thought the same was true with sleeve or bypass.

    Bad habit of swallowing gum!

I can’t imagine drinking coffee and chewing gum at the same time!

    Alcohol

I’m 2 months out. I had a glass of white wine when we went out for hubby’s Birthday, it was fine. I also tried a light red 1 night at home, 1/2 glass went straight to my head so the rest went down the sink! My tolerance is definitely a lot lower than presurgery when I could happily sit and drink half a bottle watching TV and more on special occasions
  25. I have a friend who is banded like me and like me she is also struggling with weight gain / inadequate loss and what to do. She has booked to attend a seminar, in Melbourne Australia, with Dr Vuong. Wondering what they are about and what the goal is. Does this Dr promote a certain type of surgery, does he have answers that other Drs don’t? Why is he travelling the world like a rockstar, is he drumming up business for some surgical group?
