Fear of eating in public at times?
elcee replied to MsFab1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes for some reason things that go down well at home can cause problems out. If I'm out for lunch with a friend I try to stick to some kind of Pasta or fritatta as those don't seem to give me problems. I went out a couple of months ago with my husband and son. Ordered lamb shank and had to get to the bathroom to PB. It was super soft and is something I can normally eat OK at home. The only thing that seems to make any sense is that I was drinking wine beforehand and maybe I didn't leave enough time before drinking and eating. I always used to think that the not drinking for 30 min before eating rule didn't make any sense but it seems that it can affect what and how much you can eat. When I saw my dietician 2 weeks ago he said that it is often a cause of problems when people are out. They can't understand why they can't eat as much or the same as they can at home but it is often because they have been filling up with some kind of drink at the restaurant whilst waiting for their food. Sometimes eating with other people can be a lot easier than expected. At Easter i went away with a group of friends that don't know about my band and I had no problems. That was a major relief. -
Please help me understand some things.....

Good to see someone who fully understands the process and is ready to take responsibility. With an attitude like this you will be successful. It's been a year now and I still haven't turned into Catherine Zeta Jones.LOL Any suggestions? -
Paying out of Pocket, Scared I didn't make the right decision
elcee replied to gellyandjd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am sure that the sleeve is a great option. But I don't think it is very helpful to the OP who has her lapband surgery booked in a weeks time to be told this now. I don't think her question is to whether she has chosen the right surgery but as to whether or not having surgery at all is the right thing to do. gelly it is perfectly normal to be having doubts at this stage. I think 99.9% of us felt the same. It is a big step, you are having elective surgery, you wonder what is wrong with you that you can't lose and keep weight off on your own etc. So long as you researched the various types of WLS and are confident in your surgeon then I am sure that the decision that you have already made is the right one. Read the thread I started recently under complications. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/complications-1-year-out-114752/ Hopefully it will encourage you and make you feel a bit more confident. Yes it is possible to have problems with a Lapband but the same is true for all the other types of WLS including the sleeve. There is no perfect surgery and there is no one size fits all solution. Don't let people try to confuse you now. -
Band slipped, but it's OK!
elcee replied to meandtheboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vomiting is one of the major causes of slippage. It is recommended that if you get any kind of illness that causes vomiting you contact your Dr immediately so that you can be prescribed a strong antiemetic. Sorry to hear what you have gone through. It's a pity that your Dr wasn't able to fix your band immediately. Have you thought about beng rebanded in the future or possibly revising to another type of WLS such as the sleeve? -
So aggrevated with the scale!!!!!
elcee replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have taken measurements as well. When it feels like the scale isn't moving it makes a huge difference as you can see that your body is changing. -
Lapbanded, and years ahead, dementia, unable to follow eating rules.
elcee replied to RobinLB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't see this as a problem. If you get to the stage where the band is causing problems when you eat then have it unfilled. Your family will notice that you are having problems eating even if you can't remember the cause.I assume you will be telling them about the band? At least by having the band in the first place you have a far better chance of surviving long enough to possibly get dementia. -
Maybe you are allergic to the pain meds, or it could be something in a protein shake. Have you changed your soap, washing powder or anything like that recently? Sometimes it's not possible to pinpoint the cause. I have had some scary looking rashes before and my Dr did not manage to identify what was causing it.(Preband so I know it wasn't band related)

Anyone have bladder problems, gone after the band??
elcee replied to pvtash61's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That definitetly isn't what happens in my case. I am usually asleep, dreaming happilly and my dream will start to feature toilets! But there is always something wrong with the toilet in my dream(blocked, dirty, queue etc) which is my signal that I actually need to wake myself up and go! Heaven forbid I ever dream about a perfect toilet one day. -
So aggrevated with the scale!!!!!
elcee replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So long as you use the same scale every time you weigh it doesn't matter if it is 100% accurate or not.It will still measure your losses. Make sure you weigh at the same time and in the same state of dress or undress. -
Anyone have bladder problems, gone after the band??

Thats an interesting perspective. I have never ever been told previously that my over active bladder could be from sleep apnea. -
Upper Back pain, Please Help!
elcee replied to hamltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds as though you are too tight. You need to go back and see your dr before any permanent damage is done. -
Glad to be able to put your mind to rest. There certainly seems to be lots of misinformation regarding the band out there!
-
I heard that recovery time with SILS can be longer as they have to move things around more due to the fact that there is only 1 incision.
-
no you don't need to have anything done before you fly. Some people apparently experience extra tightness but this should resolve when you land. You are more likely to experience problems if you are newly banded as then their is air and not saline in the band. The air can expand - saline doesn't. I flew from Australia to South Africa and back in Dec. 3 flights - 24 hrs each way. No problems. LOL I even managed to eat the plane food.

I got banded on 2 June last year and thought I was doing fine. Then I realised that I actually do have all sorts of complications. Some of them I had an idea about before getting the band - some are totally unexpected. I think I am developing a shopping addiction! I go to the shops see something really pretty try it on and guess what - it fits and looks great so I buy it! I don't need it, have no idea where I am going to wear it but buy it anyway! This obviously has an adverse affect on my credit card and my finances. Eventually it could impact on my relationship. I just have to make sure that I spend less on my clothes than my DH spends on model trains, golf etc! I have hordes of clothes that I have had to give away because they didn't fit me any more. Some of them never worn, some really expensive and only worn once. This is not good for the environment! I hate exercise, always have but I have discovered dancing. It started off as a Bollywood class once a week and has now extended to a Belly Dancing class as well! This has all sorts of hidden costs - costumes, workout gear, DVDs etc etc. A gym membership would be much cheaper! I'm scared of what I might do next - I even looked up pole dancing classes but the cost put me off. I keep getting called skinny! Who me - surely they must be talking to someone else. I have always been called little as I'm short but skinny! I need to buy new glasses. Why? Because when I look in the mirror I see my stomach which to me still looks fat. It can't be as my Dr has told me I am not to lose any more weight. What am I going to do with all the spare time that I have now that I don't need to research diets, buy and read diet books etc? I am addicted to LapBand Talk. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to give it up a number of times. I think there may be some other complications but I can't remember what they are right now. LOL. memory loss cannot be blamed on the band. So I just want to say to those who haven't been banded yet be very careful! there are all sorts of potential complications that you may never have thought of!

Because of my sucess my sister in law is next

It's great that your success has inspired someone else. -
This article just came through on some newsletter that I am subscribed to.Apparently waist to height ratio is more important than BMI when determining health risk. Whtr: The New Determinant Of Health Risk | LIVESTRONG.COM After reading this I'm stuffed! There is no hope, as a natural apple I may as well give up now. I am 5' (153cm) and have a waist measurement of 32"(81cm).According to the calculator I found Waist-to-Height Ratio this gives me a ratio of 53.3. This puts me in the overweight - close to seriously overweight category. So what is the problem you may ask? Well my BMI is 22 - well within the normal range. When I saw my Dr last week I was told categorically that I must NOT lose any more weight. She says I can't afford to as I will be too skinny. She was probably looking at my legs - I was wearing leggings (Aus size 6). So what do I do.How do you lose weight from 1 area and not the rest. As far as I know there still isn't any effective way of spot reducing. When you lose you lose all over and have no say in where it comes off. Maybe the only solution is lipo or a tummy tuck! LOL.:smile2:

I should correct my post above. An hour or longer after eating to drink. 3 - 4 hours between meals. When I reread what I posted it reads as though I think 3 - 4 hours without a drink is OK!
-
You should wait at least an hour - longer if possible.I think between 3 - 4 hours is achievable , longer than this is hard although some seem to manage it. Have a planned healthy snack mid afternoon. And if you are feeling hungry sooner than you should have a drink. it helps to fill you up even though it is only temporary.

I have just read an article in "Woman's Own" 8 March 2010 ( an English magazine). In it Sharon confirms that she still has her lap -band but says that it is completely empty. This makes sense. Why remove it if it's not causing any problems.Far better to have it there ready to use again when/if you need it.

Ever had someone who was mean to you, and now there life is horrible
elcee replied to Nycfw's topic in Rants & Raves
I never realised that God did those kind of things! It seems pretty extreme that He was happy to grant your wish and let a business close with all the associated misery to all the innocent people involved. -
I found a cure for Acid Reflux/heartburn
elcee replied to tonya66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to be a cure for lots of things. I wasn't aware though that you are expected to drink it straight. All the articles I have read have always recommended that you put it in a glass of warm water. -
You are not a slow loser! The band is designed for weight loss of 1 - 2 lbs per week. So after 4 months you should have lost between 17 and 35 lbs. Do not compare yourself to others as everyone loses at different rates. There are some people who would give their right arm to have lost as much as you have in 4 months.
