  1. This does make you sound like shady Katie. Whilst I have no experience of the US medical or insurance system I am sure that the letter will be verified in some way or another. Imagine the consequences for both yourself and your MIL if you are found out. I imagine you could both end up with a criminal record or worse and your MIL probably risks losing her licence. This is NOT the way to go.
  2. Just be careful that you aren't so focused on getting the M&Ms in your mouth that you fall over and injure yourself!

    silly question???

Relax, it is not going to stretch your pouch. The liquid goes through fairly quickly and obviously its not causing you any discomfort. It would be an issue if you were trying to drink like this though if your pouch was already full of food.
  4. This does sound counterproductive. Why do you have to eat the extra - have you tried the run without eating the extra calories?
  5. And you also have those for whom English is not their first language. High levels of literacy should not be a prerequisite on a band support site. We are here to offer support and guidance not to spell check!
  6. I am also freezing. Heater is on , jumper is on but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Being cold affects your marriage - my husband won't let me near him because my feet and hands are always so cold.LOL. Sometimes even my bum is cold and I promise I am not running around the house naked!

    Slippage..convert to Bypass???

    Interesting.
  8. Someone I know got banded 2 weeks before me and is currently going through a divorce.Apparently her husband doesn't like skinny women.
  9. This explanation is flawed. The balloon over the bottle is a closed system. There is nowhere for the gas to go. Your digestive system is not a closed system - it has an opening at both ends. Generally when you have a buildup of gas you either burp or fart! I am not advocating that you ignore your Dr's instructions and start drinking soda, just pointing out that this explanation is totally illogical. Maybe some people have a problem with burping etc after banding but I think for most of us the opposite is true. I for one am now the burping Queen and that is not from drinking soda!
  10. But of course it wouldn't be English if there wasn't at least 1 exception to the rule. No wonder English is such a hard language to learn(even for those of us that profess to speak English - yes myself included) If, however, you are adding "ing" to the present participle of verbs like "singe," "tinge," or "dye," you keep the final (silent) "e." Hence we have "singeing," "tingeing," "dyeing," and "eyeing." (This dyeing has to do with changing the color of something; when spelled "dying," it's a loss of life.) Amazing how many ways I can find to avoid doing something useful like housework!
  11. I stand corrected. Hanging head in shame. Time for me to go back to school, my grammar teacher would be horrified. My excuse - too much time living in South Africa and Australia and too many years of using spell checker. My few remaining grey cells are obviously befuddled!
  12. I think the fact that you can eat is great, I would be concerned if you couldn't, we need to eat to live. I am worried though - what are you hoping for? Are you wanting to get to a stage where you can't eat? If you do you run the risk of death or at the very least being miserable on a liquid diet which will be unsatisfying and probably high calorie and could cause you to gain weight. You may also cause your band to slip or get horrible acid reflux. The band is designed to restrict the amount of food that you can eat so that you eat smaller portions and are satisfied for longer. It does not work with liquids. I think you need to make an appointment to see your Dr or nutritionist and discuss how the band works and what kind of diet you are supposed to be eating.I don't know if you were not given proper info prior to the op but you certainly seem to be in need of support and guidance. All the best:smile:
  13. Their r ltz of words which get mispelt on this cyte. however does it reely mater? It is a weight loss support site not an english grandma site! Most of the time I know how to spell but I can't type as fast as I think which leads to errors.Sometimes I fix them sometimes I can't be bovvered! A spell check would make no difference. And lets face it this is an American website so most of you can't spell anyway(hell now I'm deep in S...T)! LOL The error that always annoys me most is sliming. slim + ing is something that I want to be doing, that's why i got the band. I think what most people mean is slime + ing slimeing. Now a tool that could put text into paragraphs would be really useful. there is nothing more offputting than reading a post that is written as one long paragraph. Most of the time i get bored and give up.

    Burping?!

I think it is common to burp more once you are banded. I for one am the burping queen, although the last couple of days it seems to be coming out the other way which is far more embarassing!
  15. One of my first mushies was mashed avo with tuna. Yummy.

    Nsaids ?

I take Ibuprofen sometimes and have not had any problems.
  17. As you have said in your post the band is not designed to work with liquids. You getting a band and then doing a liquid diet is certainly counter productive. I assume you are from the UK as Lighter Life is a UK diet? I have no idea what the Dr's there recommend as an after diet.In the US the focus is mainly on Protein. in Australia the focus is on a well balanced diet that includes all food groups. Obviously simple carbs are not the best choice of foods. You need to be able to eat meat/chicken/fish/veggies/complex carbs such as wholegrains etc. It may be that your band is too tight (you don't say what size band or how much fill you have in it) or it could be that you are not used to taking small bites and chewing properley as until now you haven't been doing this. I would suggest going onto a modified post op diet. Eat soft(but healthy) mushy foods for a few days.If you are able to tolerate these without getting stuck move onto soft foods(not mushy) and then finally real food that you have to chew. Exactly the way we progress babies when they first move from milk to food. If you still find even with small bites, lots of chewing and eating slowly that you cannot eat things such as meat then yes you are probably overfilled and may need some out. Hope it all goes well.
  18. The last part is the hardest. I am at goal or should I say I would like to lose more but my Dr say's I can't afford to.I have probably lost approx 1kg - 2.2lb since my last fill 6 weeks or so ago and now seem to have stabilised. I jump on the scales every day and they go up and down from 1 day to the next but always within the same range. I certainly don't intend having any fill out at this point. I can eat plenty - probably more than I should - so I am going to have to be careful and if the weight starts creeping up then I will get another small topup fill. Isn't maintenance the thing that has always been the hardest?
  19. I did not put anything into a blender other than vegie Soup.My mushies consisted of:- yogurt, soft cheese, eggs, minced meat, oats, weetbix, veggies mashed with gravy, over cooked pasta(made some great tuna lasagne),baby fruit etc. I agree that putting a meal into a blender and having it all mushed together sounds horrible.
  20. Sounds like a pretty healthy diet to me. Well balanced.
  21. An hour and a half isn't that far away. My surgeon is between 1 hr and 1.5 hours away depending on the traffic.I suppose I am used to travelling because I live in a small town but there is another surgeon much closer (about 30 min away). I chose my surgeon based on his amazing reputation and the distance to get there didn't even enter the decision making process.
  22. Mine is probably relatively loose.I can eat most foods most of the time. However lots of foods give me trouble sometimes! E.g I almost always eat a poached egg on a slice of wholemeal toast for Breakfast. On Saturday it just would not go down.I had not done anything any differently to normal, was not eating any quicker or taking bigger bites. I had to PB. I am not as fortunate as you as I have PB'd or slimed on plenty of occassions but most of the time when it happens it is no big deal. I am loose enough that I have been on holiday with friends that do not know I am banded and they didn't notice anything strange about my eating habits. I also have to have a healthy snack between meals. For me I cannot imagine that being tighter would help as then I wouldn't be able to get enough decent food in and would probably get hungry sooner. I also generally tend to feel tighter in the evenings which is the opposite of what most people find. i don't normally have a problem eating breakfast but quite often struggle with dinner!
  23. You have a 3rd option. Go and see another surgeon. If this one is so bypass focused he is probably not the best person to do your band if that is what you decide. You may find that you do not get the aftercare and support that you will need with banding and if you don't lose 'quickly' enough he may be one of those that turns around and says "I told you you should have had a bypass".
  24. Some great straight talking there. Love it. It's good to have you back.

Most surgeons plans don't include snacking. However when you talk to them most will acknowledge that to go for 7 hours without food is for most not achievable. They would far prefer you to eat something healthy that will tide you over than to do the kind of mindless snacking that you may have done in the past.
