    Rice substitute

I eat rice, pasta, bread , cous cous and don't have problems with any of them. However I am eating very small amounts - probably a large tablespoon . i find eating carbs with my protein satisfies me better than protein on its own.

    Soup

Just wondering why you are eating soup. It is not the best food to work with a band - the band is designed to work with solid foods. As you have already discovered canned soups are not very healthy. Even if you are not a cook homemade soups are really easy to make. All you need is some veggies and stock. Boil until soft and then blend. How much easier can it get? If you are making a single veg soup e.g tomato, pumpkin etc you usually add 1 or 2 potatoes as well. If you want to add Protein to your soups add some chickpeas,Beans, lentils etc. It really is easy and they are far tastier and more nutritious than anything you will ever get out of a can.
  3. What stage are you at? After the initial post op diet progression most surgeons prefer you not to drink your calories. Whilst tomato soup may be healthy(depends on if its homemade or out of a can) it still slides through fairly quickly and won't give you the sense of satiety you are looking for. The band works best with solid foods.
  4. I would ask Dr for something for nausea, most ones that work are prescription only. In Aus if you are actually throwing up then it is recommended that you get a Maxolon injection. Don't know if it's called the same in the US. Hope it goes soon.

    Finicky Band

Yes this happens to me all the time. It's one of the reasons that people should never cross a food off their list if it gets stuck once. The next time they try it will probably be fine.

    Life after surgery....?

I still eat practically everything I did preband except in smaller portions. There are a few things I don't eat any more - donuts, scones and other white flour doughy type things. i haven't even tried - they just don't appeal anymore.
  7. Windus are you menopausal? Apparently approx 10% of people get a recurrence of acne or pimples when they are going through the menopause.
  8. Fat clothes all gone. Some "skinny " clothes gone too as they weren't skinny enough. We have a clothes swap at our support group, only problem is I seem to donate lots and get very little back. This band is costing me a fortune!

    Slimming & PB's

The first time I got stuck the pain was as bad as I imagine a heart attack to be. It's also in the same place, middle of the chest in between your breasts. Sometimes it is not as bad. It can range from mildly uncomfortable to I think I'm about to die. Sometimes it is over quickly, sometimes it can last for hours or longer. There are all sorts of suggested remedies. Walking, jumping up and down, downward dog(yoga position) pineapple juice, papaya enzymes etc. I have heard that guzzling a fizzy drink really quickly can unblock you but only do it near a sink/toilet as it apparently brings everything up really fast. i haven't been game to try that yet. The only thing that works for me is trying to bring up the stuck item.Afterwards you can still be swollen and sore - at that stage I find sucking crushed ice helps as it reduces the swelling. Sliming is nothing to fear. it is just excess salive which your body produces to help the stuck item slide down. As you are stuck or blocked it won't go down so you have to keep spitting it up. As much as we all vow that we will chew properly and never get stuck I think it is almost inevitable. You will know that you are a REAL bandster once you've been stuck!
  10. If the food is getting stuck that sounds as though it is due to bad eating habits. Too big bites and not chewing properly. Just refocusing on the way he eats may help.It may be that he has started off a cycle that is now hard to break.
  11. Has he been tested for food intolerances? These commonly cause nausea, vomiting, bloating etc.iIt could be lactose intolerance especially as he is currently consuming lots af dairy or coeliac disease or one of any number of things. It may not be anything to do with the band. maybe he needs to broaden his focus and ask to be referred to an allergy specialist.
  12. Everybody has a different experience. I sailed through the surgery fairly easily and didn't have much pain. What I did have was easily sorted out with the meds the Dr gave me. The thing that I found worst was nausea - but then I have always had post op nausea. The thing that helped most was when I was allowed to add Soups. I think my body was sick of the sweet artificial shakes and wanted some real food. My NUT had suggested adding Beans, pulses, chickpeas etc to soups(homemade veggie) and then blending them to a thin consistency. That adds Protein which helps to keep you satisfied. The postop period is hard but because you know the end is in sight it is doable. You won't believe how good mushy food tastes after 2 weeks(or whatever your surgeon recommends) on liquids. All the best.
  13. I agree that a size 16 then and now are totally different. Australian sizes are 2 sizes different to US sizes but I think its the other way around.A US 14 is an Aussie 18.An Aussie 10 is actually a US 6. Here is a link to a conversion tool that I find quite handy. Online Conversion - Women's Clothing Conversion
  14. It does sound as though you could have caused a slip. In some instances a slip means that you cannot eat or drink whilst in others it seems to create an enlarged pouch. I think this may be what has happened to you. I would go and see your Dr. A complete unfill for a couple of weeks may actually help everything to go back into place. hope it all turns out OK
  15. Which is the reason why things such as Gas X won't work, because the gas is not in your stomach!
  16. Wow, that's pretty amazing. Well done.

    So What Are the Rules?

That is a long time to stop drinking before you eat. The majority of Dr's seem to advise the other way around. i.e 30 min before and 60 after. Laughing about the tiny sips of wine. yes I can generally manage those as well!

    Total Band Failure - 6 weeks post-op

Agreed, in fact that was one of the possibilities I suggested when I responded the first time. The OP then replied that the surgeon confirmed that it was the other way around. I would be very sceptical and also concerned about using the same surgeon. Probably because I'm not a very trusting person and like to question and take everything with a big pinch of salt. However as the surgery is already scheduled its a bit late to try and find alternatives now. Hoping everything goes well this time.
  19. Its just saliva mixed with air, nothing to worry about. It is probably indicating that you've eaten to much or not chewed properley as your body produes extra saliva to try and slide the food through.
  20. It does take a while for your mind to catch up. I take a size 8 pants which I think is the equivalent of a US 4 and also get called skinny but I can't see it. I look in the mirror and still see my stomach which I would love to get rid of. According to my waist measurement I am still at higher risk of diabetes. My BMR is above what it should be although my BMI is good. If I were to buy clothes based on my waist measurement I would supposedly need a size 16 - 18! Crazy as my size 8 pants and skirts do up fine. I also find it hard after having spent most of my life dieting to accept that I am fine and that I don't need to any more. I am terrified that I will put all the weight back on AGAIN!

    Staple Foods

I can eat most foods most of the time, and that includes bread, rice, pasta. However there are very few foods that have never caused me discomfort.Sometimes I'm not even sure what food is causing the problem as I eat foods together not seperately. Even my staples cause problems sometimes . The exceptions of course are sliders - they do not cause problems so yogurt, chocolate etc will always go down with no problem unless you are already stuck. Part of learning to live with the band is also learning that it is not consistent. Tightness can vary from day to day. Sometimes it could be TOM, stress, dehydration etc. The important thing is not to give up on a food because it has caused you discomfort once.

    Total Band Failure - 6 weeks post-op

For erosion to occur so quickly something must have occurred at the time of surgery. Either the band was put on too tight or somehow the sterile environment was breached.
  23. Have you considered that this may be due to some form of food intolerance. I would be getting allergy testing before i got my band removed. Tiredness, headaches, digestive upsets are all common symptoms of a food intolerance. it could be lactose, gluten, chemicals - one of any number of things. I think you should explore this prior to any further surgery.
