1st fill questions...I'm having trouble
elcee replied to butterfly0510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no such thing as ONLY! I have less fill than this and have been banded a year. Different people require different levels to achieve restriction. 4cc as a first fill is actually quite a lot! I would follow Mimi's advice but if you are still having problems do not hesitate to go back to your Dr. You do need to be able to eat. -
It sounds as though you may have some kind of stomach bug. I would do what they normally advise when you have something such as gastro. Stay hydrated and avoid food.If that doesn't help then go and see your Dr. Use Clear liquids not Protein shakes because if it is a stomach bug the lactose in them is likely to just aggravate it.

I'm not an expert I just know it is commonly implicated as the cause of a lot of stomach ulcers. If you do an internet search you should be able to find more info. it seems like it is something that is worth having checked out.
-
Is it maybe from working out/ You may have pulled or twisted or just done something a bit harder or a bit different to usual and that could have caused it.

If you think you are having a heart attck you should go to emergency immediately. Never mess around with chest pain. (It is quite common if you are stuck to feel chest pain but if this had happened you would know that it was because you were stuck as the pain would be immediate). Better to be safe than sorry.

3rd fill - having problems
elcee replied to breesue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does sound like they have overfilled you. Going back to the Dr is a good idea. In the meantime try sucking ice chips - it may help to reduce the swelling. -
I think I need a 2nd fill, but is it too soon?
elcee replied to JDShelton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no its not too soon. Lots of Dr's do monthly fills until you reach restriction so 2 months is actually quite a long time. -

Anyone had ER visit for an UNfill?
elcee replied to Jazz3008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had a small amount taken out at my Dr's office and it was exactly the same as having a fill. It didn't hurt at all. It sounds as though your Dr's practice has a very aggressive fill routine. My total fill is less than you had in your first fill and I have sufficient restriction! Its amazing how things differ from practice to practice and country to country. -
2 weeks post op..did this happen to you
elcee replied to LaurenT626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you have an intolerance to something in the protein shake. Food intolerances cause symptoms such as nausea, bloating gas etc . -
I would suggest the opposite. Try sucking crushed ice, it should help to reduce the swelling.

Hope this clears up soon.

That is just gross.

Just wondering if something such as H Pylori might be the cause. I was looking it up after reading something about erosion. This is one of the things I found. Gastritis and Dyspepsia The symptoms are discomfort, bloating, nausea and perhaps vomiting. The person may also have symptoms that suggest ulcers - burning or pain in the upper abdomen, usually occurring about an hour or so after meals or even during the night. The symptoms are often relieved temporarily by antacids, milk, or medications that reduce stomach acidity. Yet, the physician does not find an ulcer when the patient is tested by x-ray or endoscopy. When H. pylori is found in the stomach, it is tempting to believe that it is the cause of the symptoms, although this connection is not yet clear cut. The physician will usually prescribe antibiotic therapy to see if clearing the infection relieves symptoms. It might be worth getting tested to see if this bacteria is present.

It seems as though the foods listed are the ones people are commonly told to avoid if they have an ulcer. I could be wrong but I thought that it was no longer believed that ulcers are CAUSED by these foods. I thought that in the majority of cases it is believed to be the H Pylori bacteria that causes the ulcer and that these foods aggravate it. I wonder if in erosion it is being caused by these foods or if again the patient has H pylori? I am sure that everything in moderation is fine. I would think (but i am not a DR) that it would take excessive amounts of coffee, alcohol etc to cause this type of problem. Especially as liquids do not generally stay in the pouch - they go straight through so are more likely to contribute to problems in the lower portion of the stomach. -
Drinking Something Warm
elcee replied to TN_girl21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always start the day with a nice hot cup of tea(preband as well) and I very rarely have problems eating breakfast. I can't imagine not having my tea - it is more important than food first thing . LOL. When I have had to go for fasting blood tests it is the not having my cup of tea that I struggle with more than no food. Warm liquids do help to relax your band. However if you get stuck it is better to suck ice chips as they help to reduce swelling. -
Should I get fill #3 before I go?
elcee replied to LusciousL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait till you come back. -
Bit of a strange question here but I am wondering what is the correct ettiquette for disposing of used sanitary protection when at someone elses house. When I was growing up it used to be easy as in those days you just used to flush. Now we are not supposed to flush items as they pollute our waterways. At home its easy you put the stuff in your own bin, at the shops its easy they have special units but what do you do at someone elses house? I don't feel comfortable putting something into their bathroom bin and its embarassing to have to ask them where they would like the items disposed of so what do you do?

Band and bungee good or bad?

Rather you than me. We may only live once but death defying stunts like this are not the way I want to live. I hate HEIGHTS. Glad you enjoyed it. -
Hungry too soon after I eat?
elcee replied to MrsShannonDennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it is working for you like this fine. However it is possible that you are too tight. A little less fill may enable you to eat slightly more and be satisfied for longer. It is something that you should discuss with your DR. -

Another thought. Your Dr will need to know about your drinking habits as excess alcohol is one of the causes of a fatty liver.A fatty liver can cause serious problems at the time of surgery. It can cause the surgery to be cancelled or for them to do it as open rather than keyhole surgery. -

Well apart from the fact that drinking that quantity on a regular basis is obviously a major health hazard it could cause problems with surgery and recovery. Add to that the fact that an average bottle of red has about 500 calories - empty calories . You need to think about what you want and what you are prepared to do to get there. If you want better health and a longer life then you already know that you need to lose weight, eat healthier and cut back on your drinking. If you do get banded then you will probably be looking at between 1000 cal - 1800 cal per day. If you drink 500 of them it doesn't leave much for food. -
It also sounds as though you are tighter in the morning but as though it has eased up by dinner time. I think this is common for a lot of bandsters. Maybe wait a couple of days as Mimi said to see how it goes. Then if you are still having problems go for a slight unfill.
