reclaiming my individualality
elcee replied to Bently's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like he has grumpy old man syndrome - mine suffers from this too - even though he is only 42. I swear it's a natural part of ageing for men. The problem is they don't see that they are doing it. -
Saw the nutritionist yesterday and it was devastating...
elcee replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 153cm which is 5'+ a smidgen. 100lb is just over 45kg - even my very skinny 21 year old daughter weighs more than that!I think that for an adult female that is an extremely unachievable goal. To lose another 7kg I would literally have to starve myself. -
I missed that, must have been watching the wrong channel. What you say is true - statistics can and are manipulated to make them say whatever the person doing the study wants then to say. Wonder how many people they actually studied.Often the no of people in the study group is ridiculously low.

Upper Stomach is thumping?
elcee replied to Chicago29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sounds like a pulse to me. It is possible to feel your pulse in all sorts of different places. I don't think it's anything to worry about but you should mention it to yor Dr when you see him as that should give you peace of mind. -
I also find it interesting that people mock Scientology because their beliefs:- -are based on a book written by a man - they believe in some Supreme being called Zog( apologies if I have that wrong) - believe that we were left here by aliens a long time ago etc etc Why is this so unbelievable? In many ways it is very similar to christianity which is also - based on a book written by men - has a Supreme being called God - believes that we were created in one day and that we all come from Adam and Eve. To me they are both as believable/unbelievable as each other. I'm just going to put my trust in Dr Who because I am sure when the end of the world comes he will save me!

I don't know why so many believe in a God. there are many possibilities:- 1. Community/culture/peer pressure. 2. It gives them some comfort. 3. It is a way of trying to explain things that we cannot explain. 4. Indoctrination/brainwashing. 5. Because people want to believe that there is a greater plan. 6. Because people cannot accept that we have one life and this is it. 7. because believing in some kind of supreme being takes away some responsibility. I am sure there are lots of other reasons.

So why do people tell me I'm delusional when I tell them I still believe in Santa? Most of the time they whip out a card for some shrink that they know. It's expected that as an intelligent adult I will know that this is just some fairy story made up by humans. Yet when seemingly intelligent adults believe in God noone tells them that they are crazy or refers them to a shrink. Both God and Santa are ficticious characters created by man to help explain the world/keep order/make people happy etc.It is ridiculous that believing in one makes you insane whilst believing in the other doesn't!

I hate it when people tell me they will pray for me. If I believed in prayer I would pray myself , I don't need someone else to do it for me. Its not like praying affects the outcome anyway. Bad things still happen to people that pray. What I don't get is that these people then rationalise this by saying that it was part of God's plan and they worship him even more!

I will agree with this one. In fact they seem to be devolving. Have you seen the number of Neanderthals around lately?

Hummingbird what do you eat. That list doesn't seem to leave you much?

I am not allergic to bandaids but I am allergic to the adhesive on the surgical dressings.Let them know next time so that they can use the hypoallergenic kind. -
~*~ LilMissDiva's Journey Journal ~*~
elcee replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great to read . The journey with the band as with everything is not always easy. The ability to recognise where you have stumbled and pick yourself up and carry on is very important. All the best. -
acid reflux in the middle of the night and morning.
elcee replied to aromer55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Acid reflux is a sign that your band is too tight. You should have some fill removed. -
The same could be asked of you Patty. There is such a load of airy fairy claptrap on this thread it's unbelievable. I think the point about Born Again Christians has been proven - many times over. They are incredibly annoying.

What in the world, happened! ??
elcee replied to Anyajasmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be very unusual and extremely lucky if it never happens again. Most bandsters experience this more than once. -

If the drink was frozen it was highly unlikely to be carbonation. The bubbles don't withstand freezing very well! It is more likely that either a) you ate too much you drank too soon after eating c) or you were eating ahead of your diet progression. I don't know what your Dr has advised but most advise 2 weeks liquids after surgery. So I would have thought that you should still be on liquids. Even if you have been progressed to mushies a taco isn't mushy. -
Ginny there is no reason why your Dr would need to take everything out. Just a small unfill is usually enough to do the trick. I have had one once and it was no big issue. You have to be able to eat. You may even find that an unfill will make you start losing again as then you can eat proper food again instead of high cal sliders.

What is the GP's? I have never heard of it and can't seem to find any info on the net.I also thought that the lapband was the only surgery that was reversible.

Did you work during your 2-week liquid diet?
elcee replied to PhillyGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worked, yes I felt a bit tired mid afternoon but to have taken time off just because off being on a liquid diet would have been ridiculous. -
Yeah, all those poor Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Catholics etc they are all going to burn in hell along with all the non believers aren't they Patty , even if they have led exemplary lives, all because they have made the wrong choice!

you are supposed to lose an average of 1 - 2lb per week. You have lost 55lb in approx 27 weeks.I think that you are doing well.

24 Hours of Vomitting Slime
elcee replied to PhatterThanFat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No the item won't be broken down by stomach acid as there is none there. The acid is lower down in the "normal" stomach". The stuck item if it is still there will be sitting wedged in the stoma between the 2 stomachs. Your surgeon should have a number for you to contact in emergencys. Where are you - I imagine somewhere outside of the US as you gave your loss in KGs and not lbs! If you can't get Water down you will have to go to emergency as you will become dehydrated. Hope its getting better already. -
Time to ask the experts ... that would be YOU! LOL
elcee replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like either you are not eating slowly enough or you need a small unfill. Also if you leave eating until you are really hungry you tend to start eating faster than you should which then backfires in the way you have described. Don't let yourself get too hungry before your meal. -
Having some discomfort when eating
elcee replied to fit2-btied's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To me it sounds as though you are too tight. I wouldn't go for that next fill if anything i would get a small quantity taken out. -
24 Hours of Vomitting Slime
elcee replied to PhatterThanFat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try sucking on crushed ice, it can help to reduce the swelling.Once you are able to keep that down then progress to drinking water/clear liquids.Hydration is the most important thing. if you are unable to get any liquid in soon then you need to get some help. If you call your surgeons rooms it is likely that someone there can do an unfill if necessary - it is not normally only the surgeon that does this. I have heard lots of people say this and it is something I don't understand.I would far rather PB/regurgitate/bring the offending item up if I can than be stuck , in pain and miserable. It is so much easier and gives far quicker relief. Hope you feel better soon.
