Dumbest Thing I Saw on the News
elcee replied to lawismylife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read about this in an English womans mag. The woman involved lost all her excess weight and looks great. I don't know how you could be hypnotised into believing you had surgery. No scars, no fills, no hospital bill etc......... I tried hypnosis previously to lose weight and they couldn't even hypnotise me into believing I didn't like chocolate! I suppose it depends on how susceptible to hypnosis you are. -
Well I'm obviously absurd. I got the op with a BMI of 32. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Staying obese was far more dangerous than getting the band. If I was you I would be careful about crossing the rd or driving your car. Those are highly dangerous activities.

Does this mean my port is leaking?
elcee replied to kerpley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should call your Dr now! This sounds like an infection which if left untreated could be serious. It is not likely to be fluid from inside your band. That would be clear and there is only a small quantity. -
Thought I would copy and paste this from another forum I belong to. and he found the lapband tubing was curled up and pressing on my diaphragm just as he suspected - it had caused numerous adhesions and he said he found a lot of scar tissue in the area also. They shortened the tubing so it won't cause any hassles anymore, and removed the adhesions. So now I'm recovering.. and the pain is gone!! I mean I do have some pain from the gas sitting under the diaphragm.. and the incisions and the area itself where they had the surgery.. but it is in No way anywhere as bad as what I've been suffering through this year. Extremely happy.. thrilled even to be able to look forward to a pain free future, and get back on track with my weight loss again.

Success rate of band vs bypass
elcee replied to ElfiePoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love your post Elfie. It is so true - there is not any one size fits all solution and no WLS is magical - they all still require constant work and attention to "diet". -
Alex - can you please give me a link where I can see the new threads ( as per the old old LBT). I don't want to see new posts and I don't want to go into each forum individually as it is a PITA! You gave me a link that worked last time you changed the site but it doesn't seem to work now. Also hating the new format. The supposed 48 hours to upgrade was much longer than that and since then I have had no notifications. Been away for a couple of days and trying to navigate my way around and wondering if I should just give up. This is definitely not "user friendly the way it used to be. And I agree I don't want to have to open a thread to see if it is interesting or not. I also want to be able to do that by just "hovering" the mouse over the title. (That function would be useful in the sister sites too).

Confused about reason for fills
elcee replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are confusing what "restriction " is. If you are able to eat small/er meals of healthy foods , be satisfied for a number of hours and you are not hungry then you have restriction. Restriction is not about not being able to eat certain foods. You may find that over time you start eating bigger portions or getting hungry sooner. This happens because the band loosens over time. That is when you would need another fill. -

Is anyone out there NOT hungry?
elcee replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I have changed the way I think about food. I still love chocolate, cake etc. Fast food was never an issue, I was never a big fast food fan. I love sweet stuff. I think it is because my band is doing what it is supposed to be doing. BTW I didn't make that cup of tea , I made a mug of skinny hot chocolate instead! -
Is anyone out there NOT hungry?
elcee replied to Phranp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suppose it depends on your definition of hunger. I had Breakfast 2.5 hours ago. Am I hungry? No, not really. Am I thinking about food? Yes. Would I be able to eat something now? Yes. Am I going to go and get something to eat now? No, because I know that I'm not really HUNGRY. I will probably go and make myself a nice cup of tea - that should keep me satisfied for another hour which means that I can probably stretch it until lunch time. Preband I would have probably had 3 biscuits, a slice of toast and still be looking for something to eat. So for me the NEED TO EAT kind of hunger has gone away and has been replaced by the something to eat would be nice but I don't really need it kind of hunger. Which is great because it means that I am back in control. -
low blood pressure after surgery
elcee replied to Ange2992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure she will be fine. It is quite normal for BP to be low after surgery. They should have her on a drip to keep her fluids up. keep us updated.Your Mum is lucky she has such excellent support. -

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
elcee replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Leigha - feeling really sorry for you. It seems so unfair that now when you should be able to celebrate your achievements everything has turned sour. Elfie - glad you are not rushing into the revision. Interesting that now you have the fill out you realise how much difference the band was making. Human memory is a strange thing - sometimes we remember things for ever and other things we forget really quickly.I think this happens to a lot of people that have bands. I know mine is working simply because I don't wake up starving and hit the biscuit(cookie) tin almost as soon as I wake up. I now get up, have a cuppa, get dressed, take son to the busstop and then eat breakfast.Hopefully they will discover that your tubing is a bit too long and rubbing on something that it shouldn't be because then it will be a nice simple fix. In the meantime I am impressed that you are trying so hard to stick with it. Stacie WTG. VERY IMPRESSED. Bobbie glad that everything seems to be fine and that you are back on your way. OK so who did I miss? LOL. -

Let me in on the joke! 1 crumbed lamb chop, baked.1 small potato, 1/2 carrot. Gravy. -
Exercise ,much as you dislike it is probably the answer.
-
It could be any of those. Early erosion is often due to surgical error. Later erosion is probably more likely to be caused by having the band too tight.
-
I am sure that if it was possible for them to damage your band or your insides then they would not have been approved. Are these the ones that give a full xray type image? If they do then they may possibly be able to see the band - I don't know, but you certainly aren't going to set anything off. I think you should just relax and enjoy your trip.

The band *does* fail some people (long)
elcee replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also remember sleeve or bypass are not the only other options. There is also the plication surgery which is relatively new so the downside might be that there are no long term results or studies. On the plus side they don't remove any of your stomach I think they fold and staple it. But I would imagine that if they ever tried to reverse this it could be a problem as presumably scar tissue would form. There is a plication forum within the sleeve forum so you may want to check that out as well. -

elcee replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was never disputing that the band has not worked for you the way you expected. -
Initially my first fills were scheduled 3 -4 weeks apart. As you get closer to restriction the time frame generally gets a bit longer. Here they are pretty conservative and favour small frequent fills over big ones. The most important thing is to only get a fill if you need one. It is not a race and you don't want to end up overfilled as that is miserable.
