Bariatric Surgeon vs General Surgeon
elcee replied to MrMagic's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A general surgeon is fine if they have a lot of experience in bariatrics. Your surgeon will guide you to the right choice but it should be between RNY and sleeve. Lapband should not be part of the equation. It is outdated technology that doesn’t last for the long term and has been shown to cause multiple complications -
and you may not have chewed it properly

Peanut Butter Has Ruined My Life
elcee replied to wallpapermusic's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
How much did you eat? Have you had it before. What are your symptoms? -
I don’t eat particularly slowly. As the poster above says the reason is mainly so that you know when you are full and don’t overeat. I know my portion size, I dish my meals into small bowls or a side plate and eat at my normal pace. I haven’t had an issue, I know when I’ve had enough

Social Events and Eating Out: Advice?
elcee replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating out is easy. Choose whatever you think is the healthiest thing on the menu and focus on the protein. Give any leftovers to partner ( lol) or bring them home for another day. You have to live and you aren’t going to spend the rest of your life packing protein shakes when you go out. I survived a months holiday in the USA, UK and Hong Kong and still lost weight. We ate out almost every day and the chosen restaurants weren’t necessarily the best for weight loss. Some of the choices included a couple of ribs, half a burger ( without eating the bun) chicken etc -
I thought that might be the case. Try going back to focusing on protein and cut out sliders. Go and see your surgeon and discuss with him/her how to proceed. You may need a fill or infill. I had the same issues and was told by my surgeon that he didn’t think I would be able to get my band to “ work” again. Apparently they have discovered that they have a limited lifespan and after a while they cause serious issues like oesophageal failure. I was suffering bad reflux with a limited amount of fill but was still hungry and putting on weight. I revised to RNY in Jan and am very happy. I have lost all my excess weight and my diet is now far healthier than with the band.

Personal question.. laxative or dumping syndrome?
elcee replied to shellyk018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you had milk before, have you had that shake before? Potentially it was still the laxatives. -
What surgery did you have? Some surgeries from a while ago seem to have lived their lifespan and are very hard to get going again, in these instances a revision may be required.

Friendship Only/ Dating "Limbo" for some of us WLS'ers?
elcee replied to CocoaRNYBBCPromsFanInUS's topic in Singles Forum
Dating in this day and age is difficult for anyone, especially those that aren't into internet dating. -
I am 5 months post RNY and I get dumping. Can’t remember the first time I had it. Sometimes it’s because I’ve eaten something that’s not so healthy, sometimes it’s with a healthy food that I have been eating regularly. They are not always carbs, sometimes food such as yogurt triggers it. My dumping generally manifests as shakiness, palpitations and generally feeling weird. I do not get the runs which is what most people seem to think dumping is.

I can't stop losing weight
elcee replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is something I have wondered about. Probably the easiest way to add in calories is to swap low fat varieties for full fat. So if you currently eat lf yogurt and milk try the full fat versions. Eat healthy fats like avocados and nuts etc. I have seen a number of posts on fb lately with photos of people that have got to a BMI of 18 and all the responses have been great, well done etc. What concerns me is that no one seems worried that for an adult a BMI of 18 is very low (even though it is technically in the healthy range). I think it would be very easy to become addicted to the high of losing weight and ignore the signs that a person may be getting too thin. I am glad that you are addressing this. -
I think you will regret not having the surgery more

The risk of reflux with a sleeve is very high, if you already have reflux then you shouldn’t even consider it .

Lap Band revision to RNY?
elcee replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I went band to bypass in one op in Jan. I have lost all my excess weight and am sitting around goal. My diet is much healthier than with the band. It is lovely to be able to go out to eat and not spend the evening in the bathroom throwing up. -
Not sure what your expectations are. Major surgery and reduced food are all going to take a long time to recover from. I wouldn’t be signing up for an ironman anytime soon

"Specialty Plastic Surgeon" too far?
elcee replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Isn’t it a bit early to be looking at this. Isn’t one of the requirements that your weight has been stable for xxxxxx no of months? Surely you are still in the losing phase -
No idea, I’m not allowed to donate anyway. I live in Australia and anyone that lived in the UK for 3 months or more in the late 70s early 80s is excluded in case they have Mad Cow Disease.

I would wait until about a month before to choose a dress. -
Looking into getting the rny surgery, how have your experiences been so far ?
elcee replied to jfhh1234's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 4 months out from a revision from lapband to RNY. I have no regrets and would do it again in a flash. I have lost the weight I had regained and am now sitting around my goal. The only time I have issues is when I do something silly like thinking I can eat 🎂 -
I have read that the risk of reflux with a mini bypass is still relatively high, generally RNY is recommended for reflux a,though sometimes even that doesn’t work

Granola. Muesli. Raw oats. Seeds. Nuts

I have no issues with raw veg. I have been able to eat them since I was allowed to eat solids at approx 4 weeks.
