    Feeling Weak

Are you allowed soup? Soup was what made the difference for me.It tasted like food which all those sweet protein shakes didn't. Once I was allowed it then the nausea stopped. I ate homemade veggie soups with added lentils, beans etc in for protein( as per my nutritionists instructions). All prepared and frozen prior to surgery

    Finally!

Congrats on getting your band. The worst part is over, now the journey begins.
  3. Sounds familiar - where have I heard that before?
  4. It is difficult to explain how things change. For some people they give these foods up entirely, others eat them in smaller portions. For me some of the changes are subtle. I still eat just about everything with the exception of dry meat as that always causes me problems, but I have never been big on deep fried , unhealthy food. My problem was more one of constant grazing and eating too much chocolate. Technically a band does not stop you from grazing and it won't stop you eating chocolate but I eat far less of it these days. It works because it helps to control your hunger. If you are not hungry then it is a lot easier to cut out the snacking. We do have to remember though that not all eating is done because of hunger, a lot of non hungry eating goes on too - eating out of habit, boredom, because it looks good etc.So although the band helps to control your hunger you still need to take charge and ensure you have ways of controlling your non hungry eating. I still eat bread but far less of it. I can eat a burger so long as it is not too dry but I eat it without the bun. I can still eat fries but only a few as after that I know I will have a problem. Unfortunately the shop bought really greasy ones are a lot easier to eat than the oven baked healthier kind. What is strange is that somehow your tastes change and you don't really miss the foods that you no longer eat. I loved big juicy burgers but I don't miss them. Ditto chips etc. It is impossible to predict in advance what you will/won't be able to eat. It seems to be a very individual journey. Good luck and hope you soon enjoy being banded, slimmer and healthier.
  5. Maybe you had lost so much weight that the system didn't recognise you!
  6. You must have been found again because you are in the list of reputation point leaders.
  7. Not quite sure what God's role in this was? Hi Shirley, welcome or should I say welcome back! LOL
  8. I was thinking the same, sounds as though your body was fighting off an infection. Hopefully it is not something that you picked up in surgery. I would go back to your surgeon and get checked out, you may need a course of antibiotics.

    Talking Between Eating

You are probably not paying attention to how you eat which is why you are having issues. You need to take small bites, chew slowly etc and it can take some getting used to in a social situation.
  10. Not wanting to tell your friends is not a good reason to advance your diet sooner. The guidelines from your Dr are there for a reason, you don't want to mess something up just because you are worried about what other people think. If you can't stick to what you are supposed to be doing when you are around your friends then maybe you need to avoid being around them for a while.
  11. I doubt very much that the alcohol has had any effect on your band. But drinking with a highly reduced food intake does cause the alcohol to effect you sooner than it would have done previously. Alcohol does irritate the stomach anyway so you may just be suffering the normal effects of over indulgence(have no idea how much you drank). I would just treat yourself gently for the next day or 2 and I am sure that you will be fine.
  12. You should do a search on the site. This subject has been raised and discussed at depth(no pun intended) a number of times before.
  13. Suck ice. Hopefully it will help to reduce any swelling and let the stuck item down.
  14. LOL. I read this as though you were in pain!
  15. What is wrong Shirley? Hope you are OK
  16. Not sure what this is. You may have overdone it with the exercise. It sounds as though there could be bleeding there.Whilst it is good to walk you still need to be aware that you are just recovering from surgery and not overdo it. Can you call and speak to someone from your Drs office before Tuesday even if you can't see someone until then? Here in Australia we have a service called Nurse on Call which is great for situations like these - do you have something similar? In the meantime I would suggest that you take it easy. If you have done any damage to your port you don't want to make it worse. Using a cold compress should help to reduce swelling. If the swelling gets worse, the area becomes distended and hard to touch then I would go to emergency as this could indicate severe internal bleeding. Also if there are signs of infection - pus, odour, heat etc you should try to see someone. Hopefully there is nothing wrong and it will resolve itself but it is always better to err on the side of caution if you have any concerns.
  17. Also CT scans are expensive. They are not something that they use routinely after lapband surgery. To me the fact that your Dr ordered one so early on meant that he already suspected that there was potentially some kind of serious problem.

Does Anyone Else Eat Sugar Free Protein Bars?

320 calories is a lot for something that isn't "real" food. I would rather eat 320 calories worth of proper, natural food. meat, chicken, nuts, etc. Far more satisfying.
  19. They do have them here, I had one after my hysterectomy and it was great. It cost a little extra as I don't think it was covered by medicare but it was well worth it.
  20. Yes to me something does not add up.
  21. It sounds to me as though there was some other problem not the lapband which your Dr failed to pickup. Possibly there was already a problem with the infected gall bladder which could have caused the issues, maybe it was something else. I am sure you will never find out the real reason as when Drs have done something wrong they don't generally share that info. Sorry that you had to go through this.

    Two Years Later.....

I can't understand why you are worried about your husband now that you have lost most of your weight. If he didn't stray and still loved you when you were obese why would he do so now that you are slim? Maybe it is not him that you are worried about but yourself. You sound very insecure and as though you could possibly benefit from some form of counselling. I don't see any problem with you wanting a TT. However the way you say it is a bit of a concern Plastic surgeons and other health professionals often caution people that changing their bodies will not make them happy. In fact it can lead to problems where people become addicted to plastic surgery in their pursuit of happiness , look at MJ. A perfect or close to body does not make you happy. If you are not happy then again I would suggest that you could benefit from counselling to try and find out what your issues are and why you are not happy. The way your fill was done sounds quite normal to me. In Aus Dr's routinely make patients do a crunch, it is the way i have always had my fills and it has never been a problem. And yes a certain amount of liquid does evaporate over time. But it does seem strange that by the next day you had already lost .5. To me that would either indicate a leak or that the Dr did not get the needle in the right spot to put the liquid into the port/tubing/band. However as he withdrew everything and replaced it and you had 10ml there then he must have got the right spot so what is going on seems really odd. I wouldn't be happy about having to pay twice in a row like that and would be concerned about what was going on. It is quite common for the level of restriction to be affected if the liquid is all withdrawn and then replaced which is why the liquid should not be routinely withdrawn at every fill. The best way to imagine it is to think of what happens to a balloon if you inflate and deflate it a couple of times. The rubber gets stretchy and wrinkled. Withdrawing and replacing the Fluid in your band too often can have a similar effect which means that even with the same amount of liquid in your band it doesn't exert the same amount of pressure and you feel less restriction. Hope some of this info helps.
