Is that a diagnosis of oesophagal dismotility? I have heard that there is a higher chance of this after being banded. Sorry that it has happened to you and good luck with your future weight loss.

When you eat less the alcohol will hit quicker. Also as your body weight drops it will take less alcohol before you are affected. So by all means have a drink or 2 but be very careful and make sure you do not inadvertently end up over the limit. One of my worst experiences since having the band was when I drank too much wine at a friends. I woke up in the middle of the night with a headache and feeling like I wanted to hurl. Preband that is what i would have done - stuck my finger down my throat to speed the process up . Unfortunately vomiting post band is not so easy ( and it is not recommended either as true vomiting can cause the band to slip) so I had to suffer for far longer. Lesson learnt, I have not done it again.

Help! I'm Having Trouble Keeping Motivated With Exercise And Eating Healthy Foods!
elcee replied to lovesherlapband's topic in Fitness & Exercise
It can be hard after a while. When it is all new the motivation tends to be higher. I think you need to focus on why you are doing this, what your goals are etc. Figure out some rewards(non food) for when you achieve those goals.E.g a new outfit, a lipstick, massage, new piece of jewellery - whatever keeps you motivated. And do not try to be perfect 100% of the time. Forbidden foods have a much stronger attraction than if they are not forbidden. If you want a small piece of cake or candy fine, so long as you do what you should be doing 90% of the time then it shouldn't make a huge difference. -
That is awful. Sorry that you are going through this. I am amazed that it took so many tests and so many Dr's to diagnose this, you would have thought it would have been simpler to diagnose than that. Are you going to revise to a sleeve or just try to maintain the loss by yourself?

Everything Is Lining Up Perfectly...but Only One Hurdle Is Preventing Me To Go Forward (Help !!!)
elcee replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The low pressure versus high pressure makes no difference in slips. The way the surgeon stictches the band into place plus a patients adherence to the rules, not having the band too tight and not constantly vomiting is what counts there. Low pressure can actually be more of a disadvantage than an advantage. Typically patients with the Realize band take far more fill to feel any restriction and some are even "overfilled" ( they have more fill than the bands supposed capacity) -
It sounds to me as though you are slimming. You are probably taking too big a bite or not chewing properly. the food gets stuck at the opening between the band and the stomach and the bodies response is to produce extra saliva to try to help it through. The saliva won't go down so you have to keep spitting it out. Try taking smaller bites, chewing properly, leaving time between bites before you take the next one etc. Do not try eating dry or fibrous foods. The other possibility is that you are too tight. I would try going back to liquids for a day or 2, then soft foods and build it up from there. If you do all these things and you are still having issues then you may need a little bit of Fluid taken out.

I think for most people the fear of the unknown is huge. What if it doesn't work How much will fills hurt Will I still be able to eat normal/favourite foods. Getting stuck problems in the future. What if my band slips There are so many unknowns and so many things that you can get stressed out about. Just rest assured that even the thing you fear most is no where near as bad as you expect it to be. I think my biggest fear was not waking up after surgery. Totally irrational but I have the same fear every time I have to be put under.

Freaking Out- Surgery Coming Up And A Stuffy Nose!
elcee replied to MissManders's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might be nerves/stress. Or even hayfever. If you really think you are coming down with something there is not much you can do although zinc, Vit C and echinacea may help a little. -
This is the right place for you to come. Lots of supportive people with lots of experience. Although most people are from the USA there are some Brits, some from Asia and even some from down under!

Am I Eating Too Much? Look At My Menu & Chime In.
elcee replied to curlygirly999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think that is a lot of food. You need to be able to eat from a variety of food groups to get all your nutrition. I would say that if you can stick to these amounts and be satisfied inbetween then you are doing well. If you really wanted to cut back on caolries without noticing then the easiest way would be to lose the nuts, choc chips and honey. However nuts are good for you and so long as you are measuring your portion and not going over that then it is fine. if the little bit of chocolate keeps you on track and sane then again I do not see this as a big issue. Having a band is not about being on some insane strict diet. It should be about eating smaller portions of healthy food and you should be able to stick with this for life. -
It is possible but generally losing weight without exercising is slower and you will have to eat less than if you exercised as well. Swimming will be good as it is weight bearing. What injuries did you do? Walking is generally good for you even with a bad back but it will depend on what you have done to your back. Can you use an exercise bike as that will take a lot of the weight off your leg. I think the most important thing is to remember to be more active. Go and talk to people in your office instead of emailing them. Do not park right next to the entrance to the shopping centre. Get up to switch channels instead of using the remote etc etc. Lots of little changes can add up and help to make a difference.

Reflux, No Money, No Insurance, Vomiting Episode Please Help Me
elcee replied to hhalphen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also think that it sounds like you could have a slip. It is not true that if you have a slip nothing will go down - that would only be in the most extreme cases. You do need to find someway of getting medical treatment to make sure that everything is OK. -
I haven't noticed anyone checking me out. Sometimes I think it would be nice as it would be an additional boost to the ego. If anything I think us women tend to check other women out more than we do men. We like to compare how they look with how we look. So who is making these comments about you. Maybe he/she actually has the hots for you anyway and is trying to project that onto others?

Old-Timers (3+ Years Banded) Recommitting To The Bandster Lifestyle
elcee replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I paid about the same for the op. I do know a couple of patients though that have ended up having to pay quite a bit for the replacement as although the band is covered and the surgeon won't charge any out of pockets there is generally an assistants fee and an anaesthetists fee etc and they are not fully covered by either medicare or private health. I'm thinking I should try liquids for a couple of days or something.Tried today - had a shake for Breakfast and 2 hours later I was starving, wondering how on earth I did it before the op. From reading all these other posts it seems as though it is fairly normal for the effects of the band to be less a couple of years out. That is a worry.I know so many ignorant people that think that you get a band and 5 years later you put all the weight back on - I don't want them to be proven right. -

Lellow that sounds pretty good. I actually thought you would have had to pay more. I know of some bandits who have had to have their band replaced due to a slip and their out of pocket costs were quite significant. I just jumped on the scales this morning and it says 51.8! I am not happy. I need to get back to 50. I really have to recommit and sort out this reflux so that I can hopefully get another fill. I am not eating massive amounts but it is definetly more than I was and the rubbish inbetween meals doesn't help either. I am allowed to blame the weather and my non functioning aircon for me eating icecream last night? -

I have a question. Is this fully covered on public health or do you have to go private and how much are your out of pocket expenses. I am asking because I wonder what the cost would be if anything went wrong with my band, especially as I have switched surgeons. -
That sounds like good news. Hope it all goes well. I am sure if your surgeon had unwanted breasts he would sympathise with you a bit more. Doctors!
-
I would pay and go. It is about the celebration not the food. I have never once used my LB card and probably never will. The food on the kids menus here is stuff that you wouldn't really want to eat - nuggets and stuff like that. I go to a restaurant and order off the normal menu, sometimes it irks me that they don't have smaller(lady sized ) portions but I normally find something i can eat. If I end up wasting something then so be it - it's not the end of the world.

That confirms for me why I don't eat Sushi. I have never even felt the inclination to try it and it's not the raw fish that puts me off, it's the cold rice and that horrible looking seaweed stuff. Yuck! -

I May Be Allergic To The Band...
elcee replied to Amanda61082's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Found this info on silicone allergies http://allergies.ygoy.com/2009/09/07/are-you-worried-about-silicone-allergy/ and this is also quite interesting Contrary to “urban legend” these days, silicones do not typically cause allergic reactions. Silicones are an entire class of ingredients that are virtually everywhere in cosmetics—skin care and makeup. If you truly do have an allergy to silicones, you will have a difficult time using most personal grooming products available on the marketplace. You will also have an equally hard time getting medical treatment, as silicones are used practically everywhere in doctors’ offices and hospitals…precisely because they so rarely cause reactions. Many people these days claim to be allergic to silicone or silicone-based products, but true silicone allergies are very, very rare. They’re certainly possible. But so are allergies to Water. -

That is pretty significant. So presumably this is a full op as he will have to work out where the leak is. if he is replacing the band surely he will fix the slip then anyway?
