I'm Not Telling Anyone I'm Being Banded.....
Lolagirlie replied to laurenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Luck!! Let us know how everything is going. Your decisions need not have any qualifications for others. You are doing the right thing for YOU and the surgery is about you and nobody else. This is a very private battle, and you need everything to be positive.!! -

I'm Not Telling Anyone I'm Being Banded.....
Lolagirlie replied to laurenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations!! You must be so excited about your surgery.I did the same exact thing. Just my husband and a few family members.I told my boss and was so glad because I had a few complications that kept me from going back to work for a while. You don't need to tell them what kind of surgery you are having...just that you are having surgery!! I didn't tell anyone at work, but they all found out when I was admitted to the hospital that I worked at..figures...how embarassing. I am doing great 2 months later and I am so happy I had it done. I am down 33lbs in 8 wks, 65 in all. It's the best decision I ever made, and you will be happy too. Good Luck and let us know how it's going. -

Thanks, I just went to Dr. D. yesterday and in the last 3 wks I lost 7lbs. so no fill. Because of my complications that led to the unfill, he wants me to have another month of getting built up a little and then next month, he will fill. Only because I am very hungry. I'm only eating minimal amounts though, because I'm scared to death to gain. Thanks for all of the great responses, it has helped me so much!! Keep up the great work, you should all be so proud. -
Kennedy, I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time. I went to the dr. today, he thinks it will get better with time, a nerve irritation. I am from upstate NY and my surgeon is Anthony DiBennedetto. He is so smart and very caring. He could care less about the money. I am sorry you don't live here. I agree that if you are still having all of the pain and problems this far out, you need to think about removal. Good luck, I'm sending you gentle hugs. Let me know how you make out

Wow, that's fantastic..Good for you. It is a lot of weight for anyone to lose, especially without a fill!! It's great that you have restriction. I don't and have to just have to stop eating even if I don't feel full, or I will eat more than I should. It might be time for a fill. Good Luck and keep up the great work!! -

Lipstix, I eat very little "regular" food, I figure that if I'm trying to lose weight, I need to follow a low fat, lower side carbs and more protein. I am a vegetarian so this is been a challenge. However, I will eat more regular food when I have achieved my weight loss, Just a lot less to maintain. The treadmill will help a lot. Hang in there, the next fill may be the perfect one to help with more restriction. Also, everyone loses at there own pace, my dr. said you can't compare other peoples losses to your own. You are doing a great job, don't lose heart!! Let me know how you are doing from time to time, and I will do the same. Keep up the fight!! -
Your nausea will improve, hang in there and make sure you are drinking in sips..call the doctor if your nausea isn't better soon. Good Luck, it will get better!!

Dr. William O'Malley, Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY
Lolagirlie replied to sschnautz's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have had surgery at Rochester General Hospital with Dr. Anthony DiBenedetto. He is a fantastic surgeon and is very vigilant with follow up. I was lap banded 2/09 and had some difficulties, he was always there to help me through the tough times. I recommend him to anyone in Western NY. He has patients coming from all over to have him do there surgery. -

Thanks, I am still losing weight, but slowly..I see dr. Wednesday, and see what he says.I know the fill I had was put in during surgery and didn't even know I had fluid in the band until I started having problems, it was removed and now I can eat just about anything, but am being so careful not to gain any weight. Thanks for the support. I see Dr. on Wed...and will talk about when to fill. -
Thanks, I wish it was just tenderness..I'm going to see Dr. next week, and ask again. Thanks for your reply..I hope your journey has been successful!!
-
Thanks, I see my doctor next week.I will tell him again. It's been pretty slow going not back to work yet, still so fatigued..hardly any stamina. I would have thought I would have been farther along by now. Thanks for your response

I am 6 weeks out and the pain at my port site started 3 weeks ago..Dr. said may be nerve pain. Can't exercise, lift, or sleep on that side without tons of pain as you described. Sometimes after a few hours, my underwire bra even hurts it..I'm frustrated, but my surgeon is very attentive. I will see him in 2 weeks and we will talk about it again. I hope it gets better, and I will let you know how I make out. Hang in there!!

Not Sure If you Want Your Friend & Family to Know??
Lolagirlie commented on CocoaCuteStuff's blog entry in Blog 62329
I explained to people when I made the decision to get banded that I knew I could lose weight, but this was the tool I needed to keep it off and get healthy. I even had nurses asking me why I was having it done. I told the people I absolutely needed to and asked them to please respect my decision. Good Luck... -
I have too, this has been a long time coming. I had surgery 4 wks ago my progress a little slow..I'm not the average bandster apparently. Dr. D. is going to ask for commitment and in return he will be by your side through the whole process. I know you will be happy you chose him. Let me know if you have any questions, I can help..Good Luck!!
-
Good for you!! Dr. D. is incredible, I had my band last month, had a couple of problems, and he has been there every second!! You will not be penalized because you didnt tell your MD about all diet attempts. Just write down what you have done on your own. They will walk you through the process. You couldn't have chosen a better surgeon

I was banded 3 wks ago, had to be rehospitalized with dehydration. Fill removed and much better, however I have developed a "stabbing" pain when moving a certain way by ribcage on right side of port. MD says may be nerve irritation...has anyone else experienced this?
-
Thanks, how far out since your band?
-
How long did it last?
