My surgeon has his patients get an upper endoscopy (scope that looks at esophagus and stomach). This is to ensure you don't have any problems preoperatively with the anatomy or integrity of either. I think that or the UGI is pretty standard

So tired today ...
Lolagirlie replied to Chincotigger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a nurse too, I was out of work nearly 8 wks, due to dehydration. I am 3 months out and still have not regained all my energy. Part of it as you know is the recovery from anesthesia, it can take weeks. Your energy level is lower, less food source, and calories. It will get better, just hang in there. You may need even longer than another week!! Everyone is different...you have a job that is physically demanding..be good to yourself. :wink2: -
pre op diet confusion
Lolagirlie replied to dhall111's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
P.S. Some physicians have cancelled surgery due to patients liver being too fatty. They usually proceed after a wait and low fat diet. -
pre op diet confusion
Lolagirlie replied to dhall111's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon has there own diet that feels gives there patients the best possible outcome. You ask 10 different surgeons, they give you ten different diets, and most all of the same outcomes, it's just physician preference. -
The big incision is where the port is, either right or left of it..you may even be able to feel it. I had surgery 3months ago and still sore. I started drinking the Gold Standard Whey protein, chocolate malt flavor..it's the best I have had yet. You can buy it at GNC.

essential travel post banding
Lolagirlie replied to awheaton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't do anything until you ask your doctor about traveling. -
I had my surgery 3 months ago, still have port pain, it has diminished, but if I move a certain way or wear a certain bra, it kills...I was out of work 2 months, I am a nurse and do a lot of lifting..I also had readmission for dehydration. It is getting better though.

I'm 3 months since banding, still tired and as a result have looked at my protein intake and decided it's been lacking. I just started a protein shake in the morning, I'm hoping it helps. Make sure you check with your doctor if it persists.

I've had my band filled in surgery as well, and unfilled 10 days later after hospitalization for dehydration. I have been unfilled for almost 3 months and have lost a total of 35 lbs. It's possible to keep losing without your band being filled. :crying:
-
I've been banded for 2 months and a vegetarian for 2 years, I am having difficulty getting all my protein in without using shakes. Not a lot of variety, kind of in a rut!

I haven't had a fill yet, they had to do an unfill that was put in during the surgery. Couldn't eat or drink enough. Eating and drinking now trying to exercise but have a lot of pain at port site (Dr. says thinks it's nerve pain) I see him next week, but will probably not have a fill, I'm still losing 40lbs since surgery. Where is your link? I will log on to that next time. You are doing great, keep up the good work!!

Hi, I was banded 2/23/09, it's hard to believe it's been 8 weeks!! How is everyone doing?
-
You need to get back to your doctor ASAP. This can be cellulitis which if left untreated can be very serious!! Let us know how you make out...Good Luck
-
I wrote a couple weeks back, I have been banded for 5 weeks, and 3 weeks ago developed pain at port site up to the area by my ribs. If I accidentally brush against something, I have a ton of pain...Has anyone experienced this?

Am I right to be angry and frustrated?
Lolagirlie replied to A New Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa, I'm glad you got the support you needed from the dr's. office. Again, I cannot stress enough, there are great surgeons out there that can do both, operate and care!! -
help- removal of band and gastric bypass
Lolagirlie replied to neverland's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Neverland, I'm sorry to hear about your complications. I do want to say, that nobody has bariatric surgery, either lap band/rny/etc. unless they have been classified as obese, morbidly or otherwise. Having the bypass is a life time of comittment and vigilance. If you don't think you can make the lifestyle change, do not have the surgery!! Good Luck!! -
Your input please....Lap Band or knee surgery first?
Lolagirlie replied to happychick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Get the Knee Surgery !!!! You can't have the lap band if you can't walk. It will leave you vulnerable to post operative blood clots, pneumonia..I'm sure you have heard this before. Walking is a vital part of recovery and one of the easiest ways to excersise which is also a key to recovery. Good Luck and let us know your progress!! -
Take your pain meds ,shower if it's o.k. Don't stay still, you need to walk often. The pain will get better, hang in there
-
Sweetie, you need to call the dr. to make sure there is nothing wrong.Did you mention it to him at your last appt. My doctor told me that it is probably "nerve pain" an irritation of the nerve from the healing tissue. I got the ok to take advil in small doses. It still hurts lots but I'm only 8wks out and hopeful it will get better. Let me know what he says. Good Luck!!

Am I right to be angry and frustrated?
Lolagirlie replied to A New Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are some surgeons that totally support there patients. I have one that made a commitment to me as I did to him. I was unaware that I had a fill put in when the lap band was done. He didn't tell me that, but when I started having some problems, the fill was removed. I bet most of you do have some fill in your band and don't even know it. Listen, everyone needs to feel supported no matter what, whether it be from our surgeon or our forum. We all learn as we go. Good Luck Lisa, let us know how you do! -
Keep walking that gas will go away. Keep sipping and good Luck!!

Lolagirlie replied to A New Woman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa, I am sorry you are having such a hard time. It's difficult when we finally make the decision and have the surgery for you have curve balls thrown. I know you are excited about moving forward and anything that stands in your way will be annoying. Get your fill, and if you feel that your needs are not being responded to appropriately by your physician, you may need to make a change. You deserve that support. In the meantime, hang in there, after your fill you will see more results and will move forward. Don't lose faith, be proud of being strong and getting this far. Good Luck, sending you a gentle hug Lola Banded 2/09
