Liquid diet, how do you do it?
Lolagirlie replied to LindsaySue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember it is a means to an end. This commitment to the liquid diet is for your body and your mind. You will be asked to make sacrifices in regards to your food choices so this is a small sacrifice in the scheme of the big picture. Hang in there, and get used to sometimes being hungry...it doesn't last forever! -
I know, I am still constantly working on getting in the water when I work. Its kind of hard to bring your water in a patients room LOL..Good Luck

banded 6/08 & complications (minor) already .... scared
Lolagirlie replied to Kristine73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a fever, call your doctor immediately, you may have an infection related to the band. It is not normal to have a fever after surgery. Let us know how you are doing, Good Luck -
Anyone else out there OK with losing slowly with an unfilled or small filled band?
Lolagirlie replied to coloradobanding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in Feb. the fill that was put in during surgery was removed after I had problems swallowing and was hospitalized with dehydration. I have lost 50 pounds without the band being filled. I have been so fortunate to feel full after eating small amounts of food. I haven't lost weight in a couple of weeks, but figure I need to do something a little different with my diet. I follow all the rules of eating, no junk, sweets etc. I will not go running for a fill!! I know this will pass and I will lose again!! You are not alone.. -

Help... Puree/Mushie Stage
Lolagirlie replied to jennpv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jenn, your new full time job is sipping fluids all day while not drinking before, with or after. LOL that's why it's a job!!Stay hydrated, the eating will come but you have to drink. It's a process to figure it out. You will get better at it everyday:thumbup: -
No more sausage biscuits for you!!! That's an accident waiting to happen. Call your doctor if your worried. Good luck!!
-
Congratulations for all of the efforts you have made!! No matter how tempted you are to "bend" the rules or try other foods, listen to your doctor about the progression of your diet. It's true every one of them has a different program but to ensure your success, you gotta follow it!! Good Luck on your journey:thumbup:

8 days post op and excrusiating pain
Lolagirlie replied to monica28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your pain shouldn't be excrutiating. Make sure you are walking enough..sometimes you need pain meds longer, but if the gas x strips don't work and you are walking enough, please call your doctor. Good luck!! -
I have had port pain on and off since surgery. Most days its just annoying not incredibly painful. There have been a few times that it was a brief second of excruciating pain but disappears in a minute. The pain has lessened each day and most surgeons say you will have pain for a while. As far as the position of the band, if you are worried, call your doctor to be on the safe side. Good Luck, you are off to a great start!!!

Exercise after the band
Lolagirlie replied to laurieanns's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your doctor to make sure all of your labs are ok, and that you are consuming enough protein. -
Still sore after 1 week
Lolagirlie replied to ScottB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think anyone can truely appreciate the kind of maneuvering it takes to do a laprascopic surgery. There is a lot of manipulating and I'm not surprised you still have pain. Mention it to your doctor if you still have the pain..but I think this is pretty normal. I hope you feel better soon. Let us know how you are doing. Good Luck:smile2: -
Gall bladder issues and DISCOURAGED
Lolagirlie replied to candibaby0417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ms. Candace, Hang in there. Talk to your doctor about your fatigue, you may need to have some labs drawn. As far as feeling tired, I'm 3 months out and get tired easily. Our bodies are trying to adjust to lower calories etc. Make sure you make a concerted effort to get all of your needed protein in daily so you don't get behind. The lack of protein can definitely influence your energy level. Do the best you can with the walking until your energy gets back...Hang in there, it's hard now but won't always be that way..You are doing great!!! -
Just keep walking..that will help the gas and prevent any post op complications. This is a short phase in a long journey that will completely change your life. Follow your diet to give yourself the best possible start and chance for success. You can do it!! Good luck and keep me posted:thumbup:

It was a few minutes in a day..that does not define you as a person or certainly not your success as a person. When the moments are hard you need to hang on, ride the wave, and they will pass. Be good to yourself..make the commitment now so you can work on the good habits you will need after the surgery. You have made one of the best decisions of your lifetime. Enjoy it..give it what it deserves...EVERYTHING YOU GOT. Good Luck and let me know how you are doing:smile:

I too had a tonsilectomy as an adult. The pain was worse than my lap band surgery a thousand times over. Just keep drinking no matter what. I found room temperature liquids didn't hurt as much as the cold stuff. Take your pain meds and take it easy..you will start feeling better soon!!
-
Congratulations to all of you!! It is not a good idea to push the limits of your diet. You may be tempted to eat more or the wrong foods at this stage, but doing so can lead to stretching of the pouch and possible slippage. Hang in there it will get easier as your diet advances. This is a small sacrifice for the future of the new you!!

Putting things into perspective
Lolagirlie replied to Libbyjane1976's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I so agree with you and the concept of WLS being as much if not more of brain rehabilitation. I find myself even after an 80 lb weight loss, almost talking myself into being able to eat more food. Your mind can really play tricks on you. I found when I start having a tough time, if you hold on to the wave and ride..it will pass. It takes practice to listen to your body. Thanks for the positive talk..It helps a lot!! -

Lolagirlie replied to oliviasmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

How are the february 09 bandsters doing?
Lolagirlie replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have lost a total of 50lbs since surgery 2/23/09 have not had a fill yet...had to have an unfill a week after surgery due to dehydration. I am so grateful I had the surgery..Just wish I had a little more energy.:crying: -
You are lucky!! Most of us would never get away with eating 2000 calories even if we worked out 2 hours a day. It just goes to show you we shouldn't compare ourselves to anyone else even if we did have the same surgery

So tired today ...
Lolagirlie replied to Chincotigger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the things I learned from my experience is that you have to have a water bottle or other drink by you all the time, put in on your computer on wheels. Your job is to drink. Start thinking about protein shakes too..ask about them when you go for follow up. If it turns out to be too hard..you need to stay out of work. Our job is not a desk job, you need to be 100%. Be good to yourself, you deserve it. -
Trying to understand fatty liver
Lolagirlie replied to KOLaficionado's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not all obese people have fatty livers. But I would rather address this preop and not take the chance of being faced with canceling surgery once your asleep because they find it is. Good Luck with your surgery, it will change your life!!
