    Having Second Thoughts?

As has been said on other threads, keep in mind that people tend to post more often when they are having problems, leading to a perception that most/all of us do. That's not true, those of us doing very well don't start threads to say that. I hang out here because I still have a lot to learn, and I like the group here. But other then a couple of PBs, I haven't had any problems at all yet, and DH who is more then 2 years out hasn't either other then the PBs. Yes, some people do have serious complications. I don't mean to minimize things for them. But I looked at the numbers, and the chance of having serious health issue if I did nothing and stayed Morbidly obese was MUCH higher then the risks from the surgery. I wouldn't think of having my band removed unless it was medically required. I know that losing my weight is less then 1/2 the battle, and I don't think for a second I could be successful long term at maintaining without my band. I have too many years of experience to the contrary.

Who's on your "what if" list?

I'm LMAO trying to imagine a sex dream with those two in it!
  6. Oh yeah, and since DH and I are both banded and losing, it's one of my favorite NSVs. And it's a lot more fun then it was before.

I now, it's been such an odd year! Now they are saying 5-8 inches of snow possible in North King and Snohomish counties. I hope so, as long as the power stays on.

    Saddam's Execution...

I have to say this sounds a bit hypocrital. You don't mind people being gay, and having gay sex in the privacy of their own homes, then quote the bible about how it's an Abomination. Did you choose to be straight? Could you have sex with another person of your gender? I couldn't. I love the women in my life and couldn't get by without them, but I can't imagine having sex with any of them. And I didn't make that choice. Oh, and there is homosexual behavior in animals also. You really know that kids today are being taught that in kindergarten? Not that I know of, and while I'm not a teacher I am involved with education in my area. No question they need to learn those things. I did, and I never once was spanked in my whole life. My niece is learning those things, and she doesn't get spanked either. No, it has not. Kids have every right to pray quietly, or to themselves. Which is in accordance with the Bible. Matthew 6:5-6 "5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you" Not that I've seen. I do see people thinking that public money shouldn't fund religious displays, but I didn't have anyone tell me I couldn't decorate for Christmas this year. You are aware of the history of "In God we trust" on money, right? And you have example of how other religions have had public funds pay for their displays while Christians ones are denied?

    Is it really worth it?

As of today, I'm down 50.2 pounds. I lost a little weight before my banding, most has been after it. One reason I got banded because I was tired of food being the focus of my life. Either what I was going to eat that I should, or what I had eaten I shouldn't have, what I was going to eat next, counting pounts and all that. I was tired of it. I wanted to just eat a reasonable portion of good healthy food and not worry about it all day. The band is allowing me to do that. I enter a days worth of food into Sparks once in a while to be sure I'm on track, but that's about it. I exercise a few days a week, certainly not 2 hours a day.
  11. That's the impression I got. Not that the Dems are saying outright No, but they are saying it's gotten tougher for Bush, he'll have to justify his request.
  12. I thought I read on a newsite that 4 pill makers are being fined for making false claims? Anyone else remember this?

    My OBGYN and my Period

I wouldn't do one either. I wouldn't have felt like going.

    Could you have...

Ah, but do we get a set of Ginzu knives? I know what you mean. We took MIL to Old Country Buffet, and I was shocked at the amount of food people had piled on their plates going by our table. I realized I would have been one of them before banding, and it was a bit naseating(sp?).
  15. lisah25

    Could you have...

Yes, it really does. If I eat beyond that "satisfied" feeling, I am miserable, usually leading to a PB. So there is some really good behavior modification going on. But it's more then that. Almost always, I'm just "done" after a small portion. Not "done" as in "I really want more but I know I shouldn't, so I'll try to make myself stop". But "done" as in "I just am not interested in more food". It's a revelation for me. I think some doubt is normal, but it's also a big decision and one you want to think through.
  16. lisah25

    Could you have...

Nope. No way in hell. I could have, and have, lost about 50 pounds. Then, I'd have hit a plateau, or gone through the holidays eating too much as I just did, gotten frustrated and quit. Instead of sitting here after my nice healthy bandster lunch feeling so good about being right back on track. The band makes it possible for me to eat a reasonable amount, and honestly not want anymore. It makes it possible for me to focus on something besides food: what I ate last that I regret, what I'm going to eat next, if I'll be "good" or not. I would do it again in a heartbeat. No question.

    Saddam's Execution...

What about liberalism do you think leads to a decrease in Christian values? I'm liberal, and a Christian, and when I read statements like yours I have to wonder about all those upstanding conservative Christians who get caught in really bad scandals. You are right about what is done being done, but what we do from here on out is up to our leaders.

That's good to read, I have a friend who is about a BMI 67 who is interested in surgery.

    "Courtesy Card"

We get that a LOT. I think people see me and DH, two overweight people not eating, and assume there must be something wrong with the food. I find I don't order off the children's menu as often as I thought I would, because the choices aren't all that healthy or appealing. I have ordered off the seniors menu, usually the waitress doesn't say a word, the few times they have I've just said that I had WLS surgery and can't eat much, and they've been fine with that.

    Saddam's Execution...

I've never seen any such evidence. I've never seen anything showing any evidence that following 9/11 there were any WMD in Iraq. As Carlene points out, North wasn't talking about Bin Laden. From what I've read, at the time North testified, Bin Laden was a US backed "freedom Fighter". What Clinton may or may not have done isn't really the issue. Bush made the decision to take this country to war. As far as Clinton, I think this is an interesting link. http://www.snopes.com/rumors/clinton.htm "In August 1998, when [Clinton] ordered missile strikes in an effort to kill Osama bin Laden, there was widespread speculation — from such people as Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) — that he was acting precipitously to draw attention away from the Monica S. Lewinsky scandal, then at full boil. Some said he was mistaken for personalizing the terrorism struggle so much around bin Laden. And when he ordered the closing of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House after domestic terrorism in Oklahoma City, some Republicans accused him of hysteria. . . . the federal budget on anti-terror activities tripled during Clinton's watch, to about $6.7 billion. After the effort to kill bin Laden with missiles in August 1998 failed — he had apparently left a training camp in Afghanistan a few hours earlier — recent news reports have detailed numerous other instances, as late as December 2000, when Clinton was on the verge of unleashing the military again. In each case, the White House chose not to act because of uncertainty that intelligence was good enough to find bin Laden, and concern that a failed attack would only enhance his stature in the Arab world." Feelings have nothing to do with it. There is NO proof that Saddam had any link to 9/11 at all.
  22. Well, very often we don't do those things. I don't run marathons, physically I can't. I haven't ridden a horse in years, not since I got bigger. I'm too self-concious. As far as dating and being popular, I think it is harder in our society if you are bigger. In my case, I'd find that even if someone was attracted to me, they were often embarrased to admit it to their friends. I've always thought I'm attractive, and usually had dates(although at times guys of questionable quality!). Your post did hit on something I've wondered about, that being what does change for us after weight loss, and what do we hope will. I hear people talk about getting their lives back, and I know from my own experiences that being morbidly obese has affected my life in a lot of ways, not many good. So, when someone says the being overweight affects our lives, well, there is some truth in it.
  23. So this is from another forum of some sort? I think you are over-reacting to the reply you got. You did ask two questions before the yo-yo dieting one, about whether people were always overweight or not, and I think the person was replying to that. You intended the yo-yo dieting effect to be the main question, but that's not how it read to me. It's an example of the drawbacks of this type of communication.

    Whats "in style"?

ARRGHH!!! I'm with you on sizes. I have pants from size 20 to 24 that all currently fit me. I have a sweater that is an 18/20 that fits fine, another 22/24 that is snug. All from different manufactures.
  25. I do think many people have lied about their sex lives, although not under oath while a sitting president. I don't think he should have been asked about it, I think it was all an attempt to get something on him. But, since he was in that situation, and he knew the stakes, I think his lying was more then wrong and illegal, it was stupid. It played into the hands of those out to get him. I know a lot of people who claim that it was about his character, that lying shows flaws, but I don't think many in politics can claim a high ground on morals. And I don't get how bringing up what Clinton did or didn't do, no matter what it was, can be seen as a valid defense of what Bush is currently doing.
