That's not exactly what BJean said. The point is there are specific beliefs that many Christian want reflected in laws. TOTALLY disagree, at least the immoral part. I agree about things that are harmful. But not immoral. Not unless they harm society, and no one yet has shown me convincing arguements that gay marriage is.
-
Then I have to ask in all seriousness why you stay?
-
That's just silly. We don't all share a brain on this board. We don't always agree.
-
Couple of thoughts. One there isn't a "crowd of protestors" here, operating with one brain. More then once you've gotten mixed up on who really said what. The person who called you "sweetie" isn't the same one who posted about such nicknames here. Two, isn't "went for my jugler" just a little dramatic...?

I must have missed something. When did we have suicide bombers in our malls and dirty bomb go off in our cities?
-
And your proof of how he let Bin Laden escape several times?
-
And let me know if it does work for them! This is really easy, tingles a bit. You put a gel on your face, then hold the pen thingy where you want the hair gone, and it does it's thing.

As I understand it, any church that is claiming tax-exempt status legally can not endorse a specific candidate. BUt my post was prompted by claims that there isn't politics being preached from the pulpit. It is. I've seen and heard it. Left one church because of it.

Things are different on the east coast then it sounds like. Here, there are many VERY politically outspoken pastors. Who are very happy to tell their followers who to vote for, and how to vote on what issues.

I agree! I work in software development. One of the first steps in the lifecycle of a project is defining requirements. Defining the problem to be solved, how it will be addressed and how we will measure if we did so.

Coffee and the band...
lisah25 replied to trinitys_mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make my lattes at home also, I bought a cheap little Mr. Coffee espresso maker. Something like $30 at Target. It makes passable Lattes, I do about 2/3 steamed non-fat milk, the rest the espresso, and then some sugar-free syrup. There is a chocolate one I really like, not too sweet and a good falvor. -
I didn't think to check epinions, usually I do.

Coffee and the band...
lisah25 replied to trinitys_mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, most flavored lattes are made with syrup. But there are several flavors of sugar-free out there, DH loves a vanilla latte with sugar-free syrup. I don't know what choices DD has, but ask around. -
OK, but how will we know when that point has been reached? What will that look like? What benchmarks do we look for?
-
What will winning look like? It's a serious question, not being snarky. What milestones have to be reached for you to say "we win and can bring our troops home?"
-
My "official" answer is to always follow your doctors orders! That said, I've eaten a light dinner after a fill. Softer foods. Never had any problems.
-
That is sucky! I hope you get something good figured out.

45 - 50% Weight Loss w/ Band?
lisah25 replied to MCOBandita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This could end up being a really good thing, you'll find a surgeon who has a better understanding of the band and what it does. -
Thank you!

Bingo. The laws may be the same as some Biblical principals, but they aren't based on it.
-
Not really. If the laws are based on Biblical principals, it would follow that the ones thought most important would be represented. Most of the 10 commandments are not. So logically, either they aren't that important, or the law isn't really based on Biblical pricipals.
-
So you don't think the 10 commandments are all that important as Biblical principals? I personally think there are principals in the Bible that are there to keep us from harming each other. It was those that I think look like a lot of our laws, but I don't believe it was a religous thing, I simply think it's about protecting our selves from each other.

Actually, he was a pretty secular leader. Many Islamic groups weren’t happy with him or his leadership. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam#Saddam_Hussein_as_a_secular_leader “Saddam saw himself as a social revolutionary and a modernizer, following the Nasser model. To the consternation of Islamic conservatives, his government gave women added freedoms and offered them high-level government and industry jobs. Saddam also created a Western-style legal system, making Iraq the only country in the Persian Gulf region not ruled according to traditional Islamic law (Sharia). Saddam abolished the Sharia law courts, except for personal injury claims.” “However, no conclusive evidence of any kind, linking Saddam and bin Laden's al-Qaeda organization has ever been produced by any US government official. It is the official assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community that contacts between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda over the years did not lead to a collaborative relationship. The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence was able to find evidence of only one such meeting, as well as evidence of two occasions "not reported prior to the war, in which Saddam Hussein rebuffed meeting requests from an al-Qa'ida operative. The Intelligence Community has found no other evidence of meetings between al-Qa'ida and Iraq." The Senate Committee concluded that while there was no evidence of any Iraqi support of al-Qaeda, there was convincing evidence of hostility between the two entities” None of this is to defend what he did, but he wasn’t aligned with radical Muslims.

Stories like this break my heart, I'm sorry for what you've gone through. I've asked other Christians how they would feel if someone said "My God says being married to someone of the opposite sex is a sin, so I am going to demand you divorce right now"? I don't think I've ever gotten a good answer to that. Just know that not all of us want the laws to reflect our own personal beliefs.

So where in our laws are we required to have no Gods before God? Where are we prohibitied from worshiping idols? Where are we made to honor our mothers and fathers? What is the penality for taking the Lord's name in vain?
