Started with a Leak...Doing great now!
learned2bskinny replied to moore37042's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tomorrow is day 30 for me, and I must admit, I started solids a few days ago. Other than not knowing when to stop and getting uncomfortably full, and nauseated, I had no problems. Today I had no side effects but I ate tiny amounts at a time. My biggest problem is not drinking while eating. -
Be careful, people smash their bags into the overhead bins...you wouldn't want those jars to break!!!

Well, it's been a month, 23 pounds down, now on real food. Things are getting better. As long as I eat minute amounts, I don't get the nausea anymore. Of course Zofran helps. I hope as time goes on, I will be able to do without that. I still get tired easily. I've got to remember my vitamins! I was never much of a vitamin person before, so it's hard to remember that now. My doctor also mentioned B-12 supplements. Maybe I should try them. Sure hope things continue to improve. It's a great feeling when people notice my weight loss! New life, new beginning!

Realistically.. what should I expect?
learned2bskinny replied to CherryG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a similar BMI to you. I lost 23 lbs in the first 4 weeks, and now it is slowing down to 2-3 lbs a week. Good luck to you. -
Anyone out there getting sleeved in July? I'm on the 10th with Dr. Aceves.

Hi everyone. Now that I'm a week post-op and feeling MUCH better...I am beginning to wonder. How am I going to tell my PCP that I had this operation, and in Mexico, no less. Understand, I love my PCP, but she is young, thin and believes you should just suck it up and eat right and excersize. I had asked her for some weight loss meds last year, just to "help," and she was totally against it. I chose the WLS because nothing else worked. You all understand. Now I'm wondering how to approach her. I really like her, otherwise I would change docs. Any thoughts? Thanks. And G_d bless Dr. A!!!

How to talk to your PCP?
learned2bskinny replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so I just got back from my PCP appt. Actually, I saw the PA. I needed to get something for the nausea. I had no trouble telling her my sleeve story. She was very receptive. The only negative thing she said was voicing concern about having had it done in Mexico. She wondered who would have "jumped in" here in the states is something had gone wrong, like if I got a leak. She said a lot of surgeons here wouldnt touch me if my surgery was done outside the states. But nothing did happen, thank goodness, and she was very interested in the procedure and how Ive been doing since. She prescribed zofran for the nausea and told me to keep in touch with her. I feel much better now. Thanks for all your advice. -
Caffeine Withdrawal
learned2bskinny replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. I did it cold turkey, from 2-4 litres of diet coke a day to nothing. Extreme headaches for 3 days then it started to get better. havent had a diet coke in 6 weeks. Man i miss it! I dont drink coffee. Keep up the good work, it's worth it. -
NO appetite - help?
learned2bskinny replied to Finally!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also start real food on Friday. I'm really worried though, cause even mushies made me nauseated. I think, by reading all your posts, that maybe I'm eating too much. It seems like just a little, but perhaps I should be eating just a bite or two at a time. I'm gonna try that starting tomorrow. I'm tired of nausea and vomiting! -

Rosey! Thats just great. It sounds like you're doing terrific! Are you having any trouble with nausea? Just wondering since we were sleeved together, and I'm having an awful time with nausea. There are times, many of them lately, that I wonder what I did to myself. But it does feel good when people notice the weight loss. Yikes! one good day, two bad days. I hope it gets better. -
Anyone know where WasA went? I miss her posts! I hope she's okay. If you're her, how about a post just to say hi!?

Glad to know she is well. I certainly miss her knowledge and humor here.

Is there a good website for purees/mushies recipes?
learned2bskinny replied to susimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MacMadame, Thanks for the eggface link! It's great! -
Twenty pounds down! WOW! But I gotta say this hasn't been fun. I am in a constant stage of nausea right now. I'm in the mushies stage, but gotta admit, I've had some "real" food these last few days. Now I've chewed and chewed until it was mushie before I swallowed, but I'm not sure if this is okay or not. I just had to get some protein in. Work is way hard, it's physical labor and I can bearly get through the shift. I just wish I knew when the nausea would stop. I have a feeling I may be eating too much at a time. I get no clues from my body so I just guess, about a 1/4 cup or 1 oz. Then I just wait for the overstuffed feeling to pass. Time will tell, I suppose, but for now it SUCKS!

Patience must be the key. I just had about 1/8 cup cream of tomato soup and now I am nauseated. I am having an awful time with food right now. It's very frustrating. I'm beginning to not want to eat. This doesnt sound good. One day at a time I guess. -

Thanks Vegas. I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to eat anything. I guess its just time now. Boy, I have a craving for a burger and fries!! LOL -
I'm now just over two week post-op. At times I wish I hadn't done this. I'm having desires to eat foods that I can't. My co-workers have all sorts of junk food and it just smells sooooo good. But I know that this is best. My weight loss this week was minimal. Only 2 lbs. I felt like I would lose more since I have eaten practically nothing. Well, I guess things will get better. Mushies start in a couple of days. I'm looking forward to that, but worried that I won't know when to stop and be sick with each meal. I have that problem now, even with soups and shakes. I feel like I can eat a half cup or so, but then I get really, really nauseated, so I figure I ate too much. This is really a learning process. I hope this week is better....

Yea, at work I always keep a cup of crushed ice. It helps some. How do you know when you have had enough to eat BEFORE you get that pain, or nausea...cause I havent figured it out yet. And I'm getting afraid to eat for fear of the pain. Is one or two tablespoons enough? Thats about all I can tolerate. -

Hey Rosie! Glad to hear youre feeling better. I'm in the same boat. I really want to gulp the Water to quench my thirst, but I,too, get that pain. I wonder if we'll ever be able to quench our thirst?! Full liquids have been much better, but I still cant get the Protein in. Only a few more days till mushies...I can't wait! It still amazes me at how little I can eat. Many times I have overeaten and gotten nauseas. I have to learn to stop before I get full. It takes hours to feel better if I don't. Do you guys have the same problem? -
I need some nutrition here. I cant stand the protein drinks. I am back to work and every few minutes I get the cold sweats! I then need to sit down and let it pass. I know I'm not getting proper nutrtion. Any suggestions?

? for Dr. Aceves' patients
learned2bskinny replied to Aryssia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck on your surgery. Doc A is awesome! Yes the hospital is air conditioned, I was actually freezing in my room, had to ask for extra blankets! The cafeteria food is good, and well priced. I had my last meal at the Lucerne where we stayed cause I had no transportation, I had a sirloin with mashed potatoes and my last diet coke. I was very good, huge portion and $25.00. They also had wonderful mexican food, but thats not my favorite. I know others that have gone to Mexicali have gone to other restaurants, but I cant tell you about them. -
Hey WASa,
Just wondering if you ever got that essay you posted (you know the one with the donut?) after you tweeked it for the sleeve? I really want to print it out and tack it on the fridge, but I cant find it.

To Tell ....or not to tell
learned2bskinny replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose not to tell anyone! The only person that knows is my middle son, since he lives with me and was my transportation to and from Mexico. He is very supportive and has told no one. I just explained to him that this is a very private decision and I would prefer nobody knows right now. My family and friends would have killed me if they knew I went to Mexico for surgery!!! Now, after the fact, when I decide time is right, it will be water under the bridge and they will have no reason to criticize me. -
Sleeping post op????
learned2bskinny replied to BeardedItalian48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problems sleeping with me. If anything I sleep more than usual. But as each day passes, my sleeping pattern normalizes. Glad to hear your doing well, Bearded!
