I can speak from experience. I was banded on March 9, 2009 where then several months later I got to a sweet spot, I had 7 cc in my 10 cc band. At this point, I hadn't had a fill since Feb. 2011. And that fill was so dinky, I'd even hardly call it a fill was like .2ccs. Well, little less than a month ago I was having issues to the point where I couldn't keep much of anything down except for crap. So a month ago, went to the doctors and they took out 3 cc at that time. During this time I was on liquids for 2 weeks then solids the other two and of course gained 7 lbs, because I had no restriction at all even though had 4 ccs in the band. In the meantime, the following week after the unfill, I had to have my gallbladder taken out and this was the root of most of my evil. So yesterday, I went back for a fill. I knew I was going to gain, because after the unfill everything went through the band and I felt zero restriction. So went back yesterday and got 2.5 put back in plus added 8 lbs. I'm feeling very sore and my port area is bruised (never like this before.) I am frustrated, sore, disappointed that I have gained in all of these years, and my husband points out how fat I've gotten by saying I need to lose weight. So how do I get myself out of this rut! Anyone else who have had the band this long go through this?

Mine was done at the Weight Loss Surgical Center with Dr. Niazy Selim. Get my fills at KU where he does his surgeries now. He is the head of bariatrics at KU.

I need my band removed
smileatjen replied to Seanbrianhallman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I recently went to my lapband doctor where I couldn't keep much down. They removed 3ccs and hadn't had a fill since Feb 2011. 5 days later I had my Gallbladder removed. Come to find out it was a result of my issues with my band being so tight. You may want to get checked out. Also my lapband doctor recommended keeping a log, because insurance companies are getting strict when there are complications with a band. Good luck. -

Everyone I know who has it is successful with it. It obviously didn't work for you for some reason or another. You have to watch the food you put in your mouth and you have to workout. JUST like if you didn't have the band. Have you gotten a fluoroscope to see if maybe you have an issue with your band? I'm not going to compare myself to you, but I hear people bitch all the time and I then hear from others that they eat crap and don't exercise. The band WILL NOT make you lose weight. It gives you restriction. I have 7.8 in a 10cc band. Maybe you need more restriction. Have you consulted with a nutritionist. Do you eat healthy? Do you eat your Protein and cut out carbs? Do you workout other than a brisk walk? What have you done besides blame the band? The BAND will not make you lose weight! -

The key is quit comparing yourself to everyone else. The first six weeks after surgery is your healing time. I can say walk walk walk walk walk walk during this time. Keep your walking up and make sure you are following the rules. If you cheat, you are cheating yourself. People ask me all the time, how did you lose 161lbs in a year and couple months? I said sweat and eat right. I work out not a lot, but enough to get my metabolism up. Now I've not lost much in the past couple months, but when my pants fall off because I've lost inches...I'm still progressing. One thing I want to say ..... is you aren't PLATEAUING if you are losing inches and not weight. Please note that all. Its not just about the weight. Its about the health. Are you doing the things you know you need to do to help yourself? Keep that in mind. But great post. -

You could be a little swollen, but you could also be too tight. If you have questions, call your NUT. I had my fills through Fluoro so never got too tight. -
Sudden 5 pound GAIN?
smileatjen replied to prdmommyof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be a salt intake issue, or some other reason. Wait a few days to weigh and you might be back to normal  -

Banded 5/3 - OOPS, No Band!!

At least you had a good doctor that wouldn't do anything to harm you and he was thinking of your health. Two months is nothing considering how much time you have had to wait. HUGS -
Kansas City avoid Dr. Niazy Selim at KU Med
smileatjen replied to Froggie D's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I love LOVE Selim. I had my surgery in March 2009 and am down 161lbs. I don't know what happened with your situation, but I always followed up consistently, because it was my responsibility. I didn't have surgery at KU Med, but at the weight loss surgical center. However, never had any complaints with the staff there. If you think there is a problem with the surgeon, you are absolutely crazy!!!!! In fact, you only see him twice (pre-surgery appt and surgery day) and if you have issues post-surgery. I only have seen him twice and maybe soon again as I am getting a tummy tuck and looking to get my port moved.
