I just ran a 1/2 marathon on Jan 17 2010!!!
SpideyMom replied to less-of-me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOM, that is so awesome!!!:tongue: I can't even imagine running nowadays, let alone a 1/2 marathon. I did run one back when I was in high school, and I remember it being sooo long. Ugh. So, kudos to you. You are an inspiration!! -
You look great, Minx!! Keep up the excellent work!
-
Mamadot, skinny jeans? WOOOOOHOOO!!! Did you sleep in them?? That is awesome. My latest NSV is that I'm in a size 10, even though the scale isn't moving. Yipee!

I was watching a show on Discovery Health last night called "Big Medicine." It's about weight loss surgery. One of the people on there was three years out and looked really good, but she said she still thought and acted like a fat person. I think that sometimes I feel that way. I still can't get used to the idea that the number on the scale has a 1 in front of it instead of a 2. When I go to record my weight, most of the time, I put down a 2 first. And I still look at my thighs and hips and think they look as big as they were before. Yet, if I look at my waist, arms, and face, I can see the weight loss. It's confusing. But I certainly don't feel like I'm a size 12. So, when does the skinny thinking take over? Anyone else feel this way?
-
Ugh... how confusing and frustrating! Well, I'm going to take it for what it's worth and call it a 10 no matter what. I'm happy to be down from a 22 to a 10! Now, if I can just get this emotional eating back in check, I'll be good. HG, I tend to want yummy stuff when I feel sad or angry or stressed. That's what I meant. And lately, my life is on OVERLOAD with stress.

Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
SpideyMom replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm also doing the little up, little down routine. I'm up a pound this week. It's really frustrating after losing quite steadily for the first 8 months. *sigh* -
Wow, you look fantastic, Denverlee!

You are so right!! It is harder to conquer the "thought" demons than losing the weight sometimes. Just today I was feeling good about how I looked in my jeans. Then someone at work told me that women's sizes are now bigger than they used to be 20 years ago, meaning that a 10 nowadays is much bigger than what a 10 was 20 years ago. That made me really bummed. Is that true? I suppose even if it is true, I should just forget about that and just focus on the fact that I started the day happy about how I looked before she told me that. What a struggle! My emotional eating is starting to creep back, also. I'm still not eating the junk that I used to, but when I get stressed, I'm finding myself overeating stuff that I know I can eat easily. Ugh!!

8 months banded and I'm still learning
SpideyMom replied to hallelujah.girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm with you, Tammy, I hate to exercise! I walk my son to school every day, but since mid-November, I haven't done anything else besides that. I was getting in Water walking at the local rec center, but I haven't done it. I keep saying... this weekend, I'll do it, but then I don't. It has definitely slowed down my weight loss. I also think I'm going to reassess my weight loss goal. My first goal is also to get to 150, but that puts me at the top of my healthy range. I'd rather be less than that so I have room to spare. I was 130-140 all through HS and college. I'm still struggling with the small bites some days when I get overly hungry. *sigh* -

Bmooney, congrats on the 9 lbs! :w00t: Glad to hear that things are going well for you. Keep up the good work! BTW, my doc told me this was a 2 to 3 year process. Ugh. I was determined to prove him wrong. LOL  -
Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!

Woohooo, Linda!! Way to go!! :w00t: -
OMG -- I fall into this trap every single time I lose weight!! This is the closest I've come to a goal, and yet, I've found myself right back where I've been so many times before, "Oh, I've done so well. I can have a little of this. Oh, I look good enough. This is fine. Maybe I don't need to get to that goal, etc., etc." I thought I was the only one who did that! It's been my downfall for years!

My first thought was, if you are burning that many calories, you probably aren't eating enough calories! Your body will start to store what you eat instead of burning it if you don't take in enough to compensate what you are burning off. You should definitely go to Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate to track your intake for a few days to get an idea of where you are nowadays. If it's still in the 1200 cal. range, it might be too low for that amount of exercise. The Daily Plate also tracks the amount of Protein you take in, and you should try to get at least 60 g. a day -- again, probably more if you are exercising that much. The Daily Plate also has a calorie goal calculator. You plug in your weight, height, exercise level, and how much you want to lose per week. It then tells you how many calories you should eat each day to achieve that weight loss goal. Good luck!

Am I swollen or is food still stuck??
SpideyMom replied to aimerus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds to me like you got a stomach bug also, the way you describe how the vomiting came on. I have had minimal success with the papaya tablets. They help if you are mildly stuck, but not if you are badly stuck. I don't know how long food will stay stuck, but stuck food and vomiting will cause irritation and inflammation quickly, so my guess is you are experiencing inflammation and just need time to heal from it. Sorry your having such a bad time. Take it easy and rest. Good luck! And congrats on your great weight loss! -
Ack, I don't have one that I like! Once I hit 100 lbs. I'm going to take a bunch. Only 6 more pounds to go!

Help! No loss since July...& now gaining...
SpideyMom replied to Jennifer75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey, Jennifer, congrats on getting back on track and already losing 2 lbs! We're here for ya -- ask and you shall receive. I don't really have much to add. Everyone else has mentioned all the things that I would have said -- daily plate tracking, 1200 calories, Greek yogurt, low carb, exercise, etc. The one thing that I have done that I can say has made a huge impact for me is giving up refined sugar and white carbs. That's a huge sacrifice, I know, but I am a true sugar addict. I also agree that your doctor should not expect you to do this diet alone without the help of your band. That's why you had the surgery! If you need a fill because you are hungry all the time and have no restriction, you need a fill! So, I hope all goes well with your appointment on the 20th. Keep coming back and let us know how you're doing. You are an inspiration to us, too! We all help each other along the way. :w00t: -
Hmm.... I had that only once, when I really too tight. You should probably call your doctor and let him/her know what's going on. Congrats on the 10 lbs!

Everyone is doing great! Good job!:thumbup::w00t: I lost a pound this week. I will take it! :woot: -
Way to go, Humming Bird!:frown: I had a strange NSV the other day that I never realized was weight-related! I walked my son to school in the snow, and when I walked back home, I noticed that my footprints from earlier were straight, not splayed out to the side like a duck. All my life I was a tiny bit embarrassed about how my footprints showed how my feet went way out to the sides. But they don't now. It must have been from all the weight! Who knew?! :w00t:

8 months banded and I'm still learning
SpideyMom replied to hallelujah.girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL... I guess it does, huh? I can only eat brown rice... and then only with tons of butter. I told ya... I'm the queen of sauce now. Whereas, when I was on Weight Watchers for decades, all I did was deny myself of butter and dressings and mayo, and never get anywhere. Little did I know my problem was more with the carbs than with the fats. I also have to eat the rice slowly and in small bites... just like those darn scrambled eggs. :w00t: Where there's a will....:frown: -

Tammy, today was an eye-opener for me. I paid close attention to my actual quantities, and I was surprised at how much I can eat with partial restriction (not good restriction, but not too loose). First, this afternoon I was able to drink down 8-10 oz. of water non-stop. I think that would pretty much qualify as chugging, huh?:tt1: No problems there. Then tonight, I had 1 cup brown rice, 1/2 cup chicken (cut small with added teriyaki sauce), and 1/4 cup of green peas. That's nearly 2 cups of food. I think that Dani's doctor is right -- probably 1-1 1/2 cups of food is more accurate than the 1 cup I said a couple days ago. When I start to eat beyond this -- like up to 3 cups  I know I need to get on the horn to the doc. That's where I was around Christmas. yikes! What really freaks me out is, my God, how much did I eat before I was banded????!!!!! -
Linda, you look fab!!! :tt1: And, John, I've said it before, you look awesome.

Mayo Banditos / Friday Weigh In !!!!
SpideyMom replied to Scorpioqt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats, everyone! :tt1: The holidays were tough for me, also. I went way up, then got a fill and came back down. So, not sure how much total I am down, but I am down 1.5 from where my ticker last moved  (I don't like to move my ticker for scale fluctuations ). Happy New Year! -
Just had to share some great new foods that I have tried recently. You are probably aware of these if you ever read the thread "What Did You Eat Today?" But if not... PB2 - It's powdered peanuts that you can either reconstitute with a little Water into Peanut Butter spread, or you can add to a chocolate Protein shake to make the most delicious peanut butter cup shake ever!!! Best of all, for 2 Tblsp. it only has 53 cal., 1.8 g fat, 5.6 g. protein. And it blends right into your Protein Shake -- much better than regular peanut butter! Here's a link for the cheapest place I found it ($3.99/jar): Bell Plantation PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter DaVinci sugar free Flavored Syrups -- YUM. I bought three flavors: chocolate, English Toffee, and coconut. They're great in Protein shakes, coffee, milk, etc. The best thing is they don't have any sugar alcohol in them (which, if you don't know, causes a lot of intestinal distress *ahem*). These are 0-calorie, made with Splenda. Here's a link to the gazillion flavors: DaVinci Sugar Free Syrups If you have any food finds that you'd like to share, please do! I love trying new things. :sneaky:
