    Recovery Time

I'm having surgery on Thursday, May 7 and am going back to work on Monday, May 18, at the urging of my boss. She's the greatest!

Congratulations, Lili! I've been thinking of you and wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear you're being so well taken care of! And you're down 16 lbs. now! How fabulous! Thanks for all the wonderful tips! I will definitely get some charcoal tabs at the pharmacy. Continue to take good care of yourself.!) Ann

  4. My son is 4 1/2 years old and a total mama's boy. He wants to be with me all the time. He knows I have health problems and he worries about me if I show any signs of pain. I'm wondering what I should tell him about my upcoming surgery. I have not discussed it openly around him at all. I don't want to worry him, especially about the surgery and overnight stay at the hospital. What did you tell your child(ren)? Thanks!

Kudos, back pats, and I did it's!!!!!

Woohoo! Everyone is doing great! Kellster -- 5 sets of escalators? My God, where do you work? And how did you do that? I wouldn't have been able to do more than one. Wow. Well, I brought in all the candy from the candy jar today and put it in the kitchen for my coworkers to eat. I also turned down doughnuts and cake on Wednesday! (But gave in to Cookies last night. Booo!) Well, baby steps... baby steps!

    Pre-op diets?

Thanks for the tip, Kellster! I will have to stop at Trader Joes! And Deb, thanks for the funny saying -- I'm stealing it also. Don't worry, I'm also as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs! Hang in there!!

    Pre-op diets?

Danielle, which protein drinks are you using? I'm just wondering which ones are low-fat and sugar free. So far, I've found Unjury, and I really like it. However, my doc wants me to do SlimFast for a week for some reason. It has much more sugar. I'm going to be going sugar-free after the surgery, so I'll switch to Unjury then.
  8. Mary, I don't think you're in the minority -- you told them the truth! They just didn't ask any more questions. I'm going to probably say something similar. I don't want to get into a lot of details. But, knowing my son, he'll ask lots of questions. I'll tell him the truth, but keep it simple. I think he'll be most worried about the surgery and overnight stay in the hospital. He will want to stay with me, I know
  9. Jason and Michelle, thank you so much for your advice! I know my son will be very interested in the whole procedure and journey. He is very inquisitive and quite the little caregiver, also. So, yes, I think I need to tell him soon. I'm being banded in two weeks! The only thing that worries me is that he is a worrier... just like me! So, that's why I've put it off. Michelle, I like that title -- the "tummy doctor." And Jason, I doubt either of your children will remember you as big. I don't remember much before kindergarten! BTW, is that your Viper? Wow. Everyone's been so helpful with their advice -- thank you all so much!:smile::smile:

Ooh, what great ideas! I especially like the pudding mix suggestion. Thanks!
  11. Oh, Lili, by now you've been banded and I hope you are doing well! I see that you lost 13 lbs. on your preop diet -- way to go! Take good care of yourself. Glad to hear that Lisa is doing well. Tamara, how nice that you've found a straight bit of road. Mine seems to have bumps along the way, but I'm determined to keep walking! Can't wait to hear more good news from Australia!!! Cheers!

Things to ask at the pre-op appt

Thanks for the advice, Melissa! I will try to get my dh to go along. Two sets of ears are better than one!

Things to ask at the pre-op appt

Whoa! I need to find some of those! Thanks!

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Oh, this ricotta bake sounds delish! Perfect for a pureed diet, I'm guessing, unless the mozzarella isn't allowed? I don't know -- I'm not even banded yet. Do you put ground beef in the sauce? Mmm, I want this tonight!

Things to ask at the pre-op appt

Wow, Kellster, you're really prepared! I hadn't thought of half of these! What is a protein bullet??
  17. Wow, thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful advice! My son is also a sympathy crier, so I know I need to be the strong one first. All of your input has helped me a lot. Best wishes to you all!
  18. Hi! I've noticed that a lot of the other groups have signature banners for the group name. I looked around and figured out how to do these things, and I thought I'd throw a few out there for us to choose. (I can make more, too, or anyone else can make more also!) The possibilities are endless. If you want to try your hand at some, go to mytextgraphics.com. It's free and you don't have to sign up to get the html code.
  19. We'd love for you to join us! Just click on the link in the post above yours, and you'll be in Mayo Bandito land! In fact, there is a thread going right now about surgery in Mexico. You should check it out. Welcome!
  20. Hello, ladies! Lili -- only one more day! My goodness, you must be excited! I'm excited for you!! I'm sure your liver will be fine. I'm sorry that Lisa has been having some troubles with all the gas. I hope you don't experience the same. I'll be thinking of you and praying that all goes well. Do check in when you get a chance. Oh, and don't you dare walk home by yourself from the hospital!!! Tamara, great to hear from you. What a lovely husband you have to give you the Wii & Wii Fit! And congrats on the smaller clothes! Focus on that, not on the slight gain. Here is a wonderful quote I just read today. It is an ancient Buddhist expression: "If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking." I think the band is turning us all in the right direction! Now, we just have to keep moving forward. However, that still doesn't mean you should walk home from the hospital, Lili! :w00t: Big hugs to all!
  21. Welcome, everyone! We've formed a group called the Mayo Banditos and we'd love for you to come join us on the May 2009 forum. Here's a link for your convenience: May 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

    Pre-op diets?

Oh, sorry, John. Got the dates mixed up. A banana is a great idea. I'll ask the surgeon about that. Thanks for the tip!

    Pre-op diets?

Hi, Amy! What about sugar snap peas? They are my favorite! Green Giant sells them without any sauce in a small box that would be about 1 cup, I'm guessing. If you like green beans and don't mind the canned version, there are some that have tiny bits of red pepper and onion mixed in. Those are good for a switch. There are also Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and green peppers. I start my diet on April 30. I'm quite nervous because I haven't been very good since Easter. I've been eating anything I want, justifying it as "my last time to have this." :crying: Good luck, Amy! Keep us posted. And a shout out to John -- how's it going so far on your pre-op? Didn't you start yesterday? Good luck to everyone!

    Mayo Banditos Signature Banner?

Looks like it worked fine! Thanks for the congrats! I am almost to six years now! Last year to Celebrate my big 5-year mark, I walked the Relay for Life for the first time. I swear, I felt like I was a celebrity, the way I was treated!! Ours is early June this year, which I'm glad, because I'll be healed by then and will be able to walk easier. Glad to hear that you are a part of Relay also!!
