  1. Hey Tina 26-30lbs...thats awesome! You have done quite well on your own meanwhile I am eating what I know I can't after tonight lol. I hear ya...I knw how folks can go into the doc office and fake the funk. I have been planning this for the last year. I starting seeing a therapist last January which was actually quite helpful and did the whole Weight Watchers for six months but also went to a bariatric doctor www.doctorbeale.com. I am sure there is someone in your area in his book he suggest going to www.asbp.org to find a doctor in your area...the ones in the book are not near to you...Atlanta, NY, Michigan is all thats listed. I really hope you don't have to self-pay...thats a lot of money but if thats what makes you happy then by all means DO IT! I have Aetna and had no problems and I know a LOT of folks who had Kaiser...everything will work out. Stay in touch!

  2. Hello...only a couple more days...single digit time...lol. I hope your test go well...I'm sure they will. I think you should start an online blog so you have something to look back at and see how far you have come. You don' t have to post a pic. I think its a great way to track yourself. BTW I know how small the "area" is everybody always knows somebody you know or you run into an old classmate lol. Think of it this way...they wont even recognize you ;-).

  3. That is a good idea...your planned outings that is. I have my pre-operative testing next thursday but I am not to sure what that will entail since I did all the blood work, xrays, ekg and consults in May. I have told very little folks about it...my mother knows sitll trying to figure out how to tell my dad, a close coworker and my bestfriend who was upset that I was even taking this route. I told my job I was going on vacation for a week...lol. People think that this is the easy way out but its not...we still have to do the work...I can understand your stuggle. One thing I plan on doing is documenting through youtube...I have found that to be a great resource. Tomorrow you will only have 2 weeks to go ;-).

  4. Hey gir! I don't think I responded 2 ya. Sorry. I am great! I was approved yesterday 4 surgery on the 14th of July. I am sorry 2 hear that ur appointment didn't go 2 well. How much more do u need 2 B to have insurance pay 4 it? I think its a great idea 2 go 4 another insurance company at open enrollment. In the meantime if u haven't already tried a medically supervised diet on ur own u should. Most insurance companies require that...before I went to the surgeons office I had 6 months from a bariatric doctors diet program as well as 6 months of WW...I was making sure they wouldn't turn me down. Do u know what ur company offers for other ins.? Can u c the plans to check if they cover the Lapband? Do u have a multidisciplinary office near u? Sorry for all the questions but I know how devestating it can b...it took me 12 years to get approved (after giving up so many times). Let me know if u want to talk and keep your head up.

    High Protein Yogurt - Chobani

The Greek Yogurts are great!! I love the pomegranate as well as the blueberry at Trader Joes. I am preop but am doing a low carb diet and one way I have increased my protein is my adding protein powder to my greek yogurt (per my nutritionist). I add about 1/2 a package or scoop of Injury - Unflavored or Vanilla to my yogurt which only adds 40-50 calories but gives me 10 extra grams of protein so I am getting 22 grams in one cup! Plus it doesn't taste weird...just thought I would share .
  9. So how did your appointment go :-)?

    What this program fee about?

Hi mslutz, I would check with the doctors office on that. I am also in the process of trying to get approved and going through Sibley Weight Loss Center in Washington DC. They require a $600 program fee but with that you get, consultation, 4 visits with the nutritionist (1 post-op and 3 pre-op), 4 visits with the personal trainer (1 post-op and 3 pre-op), your psycological examination, a binder of information and I think thats it I may have left something out. I have noticed a lot of offices requiring a program fee now....some as high as $750(GWU) and not including anything. Good luck!!! What part of Maryland are you in...I'm in Laurel. Back2Fab
  11. Hello Ms Mississippi!!! Wow...you look great! How long has it been since your surgery? How often do you workout?

Dr. Brian Long - Dr. Brian Long

Hello Happy, I haven't had my surgery with Dr. Long as of yet but I am also in the process...had my pre-op testing done last week. I love the staff from this office...they are extremly helpful and work with you in getting your documents in. I selected his office because everything is located in the same building, sort of like a one stop shop lol. Please keep in touch and maybe we will be the first to discuss our experiences with Dr. Long and the lap band procedure at Sibley Weight Loss Center here. One thing I have notied is that there isn't much info from others out there but I guess going to a support meeting will help. Good Luck!!
  13. Hey Lady!!! I am good how about you? Is your appointment with a new surgeon? Your appointment is right around the corner...hope you get banded by July. I heard back from my surgeons office yesterday after seeing the nutritionist, having blood work done, chest x-rays and working out with the personal trainer last week...I am loving the weight loss center I am going to in DC. They had some not so good news which I hope wont hold up my surgery. My Iron ferrin levels are low which I wasn't surprised since I have had these issues since birth. Now I have to go see a hemotologist to make sure I am ok for surgery. At this point whatever I have to do i will...I am so determined to get this done. I hope to be banded by next monthas well...I keep you in my thoughts and we must keep in touch.

  14. Hello Penny,

I saw a post stating that you had your surgery at Sibley and was curious as to how you are doing and your experience post-op? I am in the process of having the surgery done and just had my pre-op test last week. I too decided to go with Sibley based on the professionalism and constant contact I have with the office. Please come back!! Look forward to hearing from you.

  15. Hey Lady...thanks for subbing. When is your first consult?

  16. Thanks for the comment...I like your style. Good look on the process. I too am pre-surgery and oh so hoping to have this done.

  17. I am glad to hear you are doing much better now. I seems that it will be difficult at first. I just had all of my testing done on Tuesday and met with the nutritionist and psycologist as well as the personal trainer. Once the center gets the letter from my PCP they plan on sending it off to the insurance company. I hope it will be a smooth process. I will let you know as soon as I hear back...please cross your fingers for me ;-).

  18. Thanks for the comment...I really try. You look great! How has your life changed since getting the band?
