I hope you're sitting down Carlene, but I actually AGREE with you on this one!

Unfortunately there is a limit that you can help someone. I think the responsibility should fall on the parents (yes, even the sperm donor 'fathers' that deny paternity), period, not Uncle Sam. Assistance to a point is OK, but where do you draw the line? Life is about choices and as a taxpayer, we as a whole should NOT be taking care of everyone that has made wrong choices for a lifetime, it's financially and practically impossible. If that were the case, why should anybody work or want to better themselves? I am trying to instill in my TODDLER that no matter what you do OR don't do there is a consequence. Charity and helping someone out is one thing, but footing the bill for deadbeats, addicts, and irresponsible people isn't practical. Also, if you can't afford to have another child, why keep having them???? I want another child, but I know I can't afford one, so therefore, I'm not having one now! It doesn't take a master's degree in nuclear physics to figure that one out. Once again....:deadhorse:

Nor should we condone it either and let the cycle continue. One would assume the kids would want to better themselves so they don't end up like their parents! My grandfather was an ironworker drank up a storm. My dad is one of the most anti alcohol people I know and their family never got any hand outs or anything "special". They were dirt poor and managed to survive somehow. It can be done, come from absolutely NOTHING and make something of yourself to have a better life for themselves and their family w/o all this gov't "assistance".

What can I say is that my father was a kid in the depression and he and my mom saved and saved, and he worked 3 jobs at one point. That's why they were able to help. W-O-R-K ethics and saving. Also, in our family, the kids come first. Goofy concept, I know. I really don't think I'd think differently because she still wouldn't have anything from the gov't.

Hell, I'm wondering how many are single women that keep breeding, get "assistance" and live w/a relative or boyfriend and get $ off them too....

So when your taxes go up to pay for all these scammers, that's OK, right? It's not for ME! You can also bet that these same folks are receiving free school lunches, gov't medical/dental/daycare, utility assistance, etc....

I lived in the "METRO DC AREA" from 1988-96. I remember being in the Shopper's Food Warehouse in Clinton, MD (where I lived) being behind a woman checking out w/nails done to the hilt (she even had little diamonds glued on them, real cute), fur coat, hair and make up like she was going to a fashion show, gold/diamond jewelry, and Louis Vatton purse, and of course paid WITH FOOD STAMPS!!!! The topper was when she got into a brand new Cadilac!! Pissed me off to no end! I guess the food stamp recipients where Carlene live are all honest! If they all were like Carlene's clients, then maybe the taxpayer's $'s would not be going to waste! PLease!:doh:

Why don't you think missionary work is something to be proud of? Aside from the conversion issue, isn't another basis for missionary work to actully HELP and advance the people and make their lives better? Did I miss something?

Well, maybe unique isn't the word, but ironic...The Toby McGuire character seems to be anti abortion in the beginning and doesn't really want to know how to do them. The girl they find almost dead outside that was bleeding from a botched abortion is examined by the Dr. and he tells Toby how horrible it is that this happened to her. Toby looks at what happened to her after the Dr. basically makes him look how she was ripped up and Toby runs out of the room. Needless to say, the next scene they show Toby and others digging her grave, the Dr. couldn't save her...I forgot what happens on the 2nd one (the girlfriend of the army guy has one, Charleze Theron), but when he finds out that the teen girl at the apple field is pregnant by her FATHER, he OFFERS to give her one and makes her dad help by holding the ether mask. Well the dad freaks out and I'm assuming realizes how he really messed up by having sex w/his own daughter! What's also interresting is that the beginning takes place in an old time home for unwanted kids & unwed moms in the early 40's...As understandable, the unwed mom's have a hell of a time giving up their babies, but those are the ones that get adopted. It's the older kids and troubled kids that are left!

That's what I thought was the right thing to do.....I think that may take some control and obviously these morons cussing out their babies or toddlers are laking such.....

I didn't mean anything bad if you weren't catholic, I was just making a general statement because I was raised strict catholic and that's kinda what was implied about the confession/penance thing. It's sad that there are better catholics out there that don't run to confession and mass all the time than the ones that do...

Some peole should just NOT breed, period! I'd almost BET that the verbally abusive parents were verbally abused (or worse)themselves. I'm a 110% believer that you are a product of your envoirnment, but break the cycle people! My son is 3 1/2 and pushes my buttons on a regular basis (and he's quite good at I may add), but that doesn't give me the right to cuss him out as if he were a sailor on shore leave!
