a fill tomorrow but scared today

I'm sorry, I haven't been stuck yet, but I'm sure someone here can help you get over your fear. I hope you can pull yourself together to get your fill! It's what you wanted when you had the band put in, you just need to remember why. Good luck!

    First Fill

LOL Trish - that's the same needle they used on me. That thing was larger than what gets used on the horses!!! I didn't get the numbing stuff first, but it did not hurt at all. So you didn't have to do a day of liquids? Lucky. I had my first day of no food restrictions on Monday. I tried to keep my appetite in check, but I really wanted a handful of Fritos!

    Needing some support

Hi Vicki! The first fill is nothing to worry over. I just had mine last week, and I was amazed at how painless it was! I've never had a needle stick me that didn't hurt! I still don't understand why, but I'm grateful! Good luck and feel free to message me anytime.

    First Fill

LOL.. yup, the 2 days of liquids were good for another 2 pounds! But oh the headache - would rather have the 2 pounds.

    I Hate Protein Shakes!

I got my first fill last week and had to go back to liquids for 2 days. I stopped by GNC and they had a couple of flavors of Isopure on sale. I bought them and they got me through the 2 days. They are more like drinking watered down gatorade than the powdered Protein. They are expensive, but well worth it when you can't take in food! Good luck!

My fill can't come soon enough!!

I think we all go through that stage. I found that my intake was steadily going up. To fix it, I started keeping a very strict food diary. If it went in my mouth, I had to count the calories. It made me much more aware of the calories I was eating, one calorie at a time.

    First Fill

Willowcat, I've been wondering about that as well. I wonder if it has to do with gravity? It takes it a while to work it's way through the "hose" and into the band itself?? I'm glad you are feeling it finally!

For me, the worst thing post-op was...

Trying to paint my toenails 2 days post op. Bad idea.

    First Fill

I think I do feel something, but I'm not really sure yet. Last night, we went to Outback with friends. I ate a whole cup of Soup and about 1/3 of an order of mashed potatoes. In my life pre-band, I could have eaten that along with a full entree. I didn't feel any pain, but I did feel satisfied and no longer hungry. This morning, I made my normal 1 whole egg, 2 egg whites, 1 oz cheese, 1 oz ham. I put it on my plate, then immediately moved half of it to hub's plate. I ate 2/3 of my remaining half and I'm stuffed (thirsty, but not hungry). I have felt the ate too much feeling a couple of times before the fill. I didn't like that feeling and it sort of scared me (and pissed me off). It was the first evidence I've had that things are gonna change. I can't keep eating just because I want to. That powerless feeling is why I got the surgery, so that it will no longer be my hungry brain's choice. I have not had a PB, but I've had lots of air burps. I also haven't slimed, so I must be following the rules mostly ok. It would be wonderful if this is the right restriction for me. That needle was very intimidating and I'd prefer to never see it again. Still don't know why it didn't hurt! Willowcat, hopefully your fill will kick in today. Pennreporter - I think my doc is on the conservative side as well, or at least a middle of the road kind of doc. You may be surprised. But didn't you say your doc left fill in at surgery? That may make a difference. Mine was empty.

    Port Still Tender

Mine is still tender as well. I got my first fill yesterday. I'm sure the doc noticed that I flinched when he was feeling around for the port, but he wasn't concerned, so it must be normal! You probably have a fill coming up, right? Ask your doc!
  12. I was just banded on June 2. I went through the exact same thing you are describing. It went away once I started trying to focus on something besides food. You've just lost your favorite past-time activity. But, you knew you had to do it (just like the rest of us). You need to replace it with a healthier alternative. Just keep yourself busy and it will pass in a few days.
  13. For the first time since surgery on June 2, I am wearing an underwire bra. It's terribly uncomfortable under the left boob. My port is in the center, so I know it's not hitting the port. I don't really know where the band itself sits. Has anyone else had bra issues? Any solutions?

    Bra question

My port is dead center, right underneath where I think my sternum is. I think the band is is that general area as well. I bought some non-underwire bras, but the support and shape they offer is not good. Hopefully I'll be back to the industrial strength LaMystere bras in a few more weeks. I'm relieved that it's not just me. I had never heard of this problem before, so I was very surprised when I realized how much the bras hurt. Maybe my boobs will actually shrink as I lose weight, and then I won't need bras made of tire tread material!

    Phentermines on Pre-op diet

You should check with your surgeon. Some meds are not allowed within certain timeframes of surgery. The phentermine may raise your blood pressure and impact your surgery date.
  16. Wow!!! You are doing terrific with the weight loss. I'm further out than you - 4 weeks, and I've lost 15 pounds. But I'm one of those that can't even tell a difference with the band. No full feeling, no restriction, nothing but willpower. I get my first fill on Thursday, so hopefully that will allow the band to assist my willpower!

    Does DH's opinion matter?

Congratulations on getting your band and wishing you an easy and speedy recovery!
  18. I have lost 14.6 pounds since the day of surgery (June 2), however, 10 of that was lost in the first week while it was liquids only. I was able to move to mushies in week 2. I get my first fill next week, so hopefully the pounds will start dropping again at that point.

    Does DH's opinion matter?

You said he is big as well - I bet he is afraid that you won't partake in food fests anymore (which you probably won't), so his own food celebrations won't be as enjoyable. It will make him self-conscious of pig-outs. Just my opinion of course. Hopefully once you start to lose and he sees how much better you feel, he will come around.
  20. LOL.. I didn't notice that part. You're right, probably not gas! oops

No Hunger at all! Is that Normal??

I wasn't hungry week 1, but week 2 is a whole nother story - and week 3 is even worse than week 2!
  22. Depending on when your surgery was, it could be the gas pains. It goes just wherever it wants to.

Congratulations on having your surgery! I hope your recovery goes well!

    harder then i thought

You're going to need to measure all your food to make sure you keep your portions in control. When I was right at the stage you're at, I seriously overate on Chinese Soup. I hope I didn't do any damage since it was a liquid, but that was also the day I realized I must measure and weigh everything. It's not much fun trying to master a new lifestyle. I feel your pain.
  25. It depends on what your doc said - I was also allowed blenderized soups right after surgery. I was living on cream of potato blendered with lots of milk to make it thin enough. What does your diet say? I'm amazed at how different the diet routine is from one doc to another.
